    Re: CB's Guide to Hitting

    good stuff in here.
my approach to hitting is to try react more than think but you still have to go to plate with a sound plan for what you want to accomplish. if hitting is timing and pitching is disrupting timing then pitching and hitting is a ''cat and mouse'' game too, with the pitcher in the role of cat IMO, if only because a succeesful hitter fails 70% of the time.
I need to search for a ''Guide to Pitching'', there is so much strategy and thought going on in that aspect its almost impossible to fathom lol

There is a lot off people telling others to change your camera angles and such but that can't be done when playing online rated games.

I use offset and I'm having trouble getting to the fastball, even when the pitcher hangs it. I know it's coming but for some reason there's a bit of a delay and I'm always late on it and miss or foul it off. I'm using stride and pure analog.

Sorry if this has been covered. But can someone explain the penalty for guessing the pitch wrong

                Re: CB's Guide to Hitting

I was really struggling with hitting for a long period of time. The one major adjustment I made (which has turned my hitting around 180) is I stopped looking for the fastball.

It's kind of backwards to traditional baseball, but in this game its generally the off-speed pitches that crushed. So I sit on off speed stuff, you'll find it slows everything down. I still don't have an issue hitting the fastball (although I rarely pull it anymore). I find I'm able to pull and get great contact on offspeed pitches and while I'm waiting back, it slows me down and I'm generally just hitting fastballs right back up the middle. Anyone who plays this game knows the most hits occur right up the middle or to the gaps (which are again up the middle) and homeruns occur to the pull side. I've gone from struggling to hit to knocking in 5-6 runs in every conquest game I play.

As long as it hasn't changed I believe that if you guess wrong the batter's PCI size decreases.

                    Re: CB's Guide to Hitting

I use selective pitch guessing. If it's a lefty/lefty matchup with a sliderballer, I'll guess outside slider on 0-2, 1-2, and 2-2. If a guy has a good change, I'll guess low change on those same counts. This just helps me eliminate junk K's, and guessing "wrong" tells me almost as much as guessing right...

Some of us just say "the hell with it" and move the sliders around to make hitting easier.

I've seen some really complicated explanations of directional hitting, but the gist is this: you point how you want the ball to go. If you point up-left, you want to hit the ball in the air that direction; if you point down-right, you want to hit the ball on the ground in that direction.

If you point up-left and make contact with a pitch that is down-right, results will almost always be BAD.

You can't say "I want to hit a double in the Polo Grounds, where should I point?" and just get the result. It's a combination of where you point (if at all), the pitch itself (speed, location, and break), and your timing (doesn't matter where you point if you swing late on an inside fastball: you're screwed).

In my experience, directional hitting works best if only used in a few specific circumstances -- grounder to right side to advance a runner; when I guessed right on a high inside fastball; elevating a sinkerball I guessed right on to avoid a double play.

There IS no way to hit doubles "all day"...

I use directional but I don't move the stick, instead I just press the x button. When I have a runner on 3rd with 1 out or none I'll try to influence a ground ball just to bring that runner home.

What about pure analog with flick? Is it jus swing timing or stick placement? Ex: if it's a high inside pitch, do you push up and to the left if it's a right hand batter? And if that's the case then how do u determine if it's a contact swing or normal?

I do a full breakdown of directional hitting and the arrows in a separate thread: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ing-guide.html

I recommend checking it out. This thread is more about general strategy at the plate.

But... there is no automatic double button. Sorry man.
