Re: PS4 Pro Native 4K resolution running at 60 FPS with HDR support?

I'd say it's because the overwhelming majority of PS4 are of the standard variety. We've seen what the game looks like on a regular PS4, and from past games we know we can expect some nice improvements on the Pro. The statement has been made that there are PS4 Pro enhancements, and we know there's HDR. That's enough in my opinion.

Sure they could sell a few more consoles by showing off the Pro version, but they have more to lose in game sales by alienating the very large majority of consumers.

Even if they did show off the PS4 Pro version right now I hope most of you realize you would not be able to see how HDR improves the game anyway because unless I am wrong Twitch does not do HDR or even 4K currently. And even if they did you would need to be watching it on an HDR TV.

So the only way we will see what MLB The Show 17 looks like with HDR and some kind of 4K will be when you play the actual game on your 4K HDR TV.

So in the upcoming graphics twitch stream I do hope they explain how HDR will improve the look of the game in great detail. But we will not be able to see it unfortunately.

If I had to guess I think HDR will make the lighting much better. Some examples LED's on the stat boards and Jumbotrons, lights coming from the stadiums. And day and night time skies should also look better. Heck even the grass and dirt maybe greatly improved more vivid perhaps, Really everything should look better and closer to real life! I mean no it may not be a night and day difference and it will also really depend on how good your HDR TV is as well because trust me not all are the same.

With HDR the lighting should look much brighter and closer to how lighting looks in real life.

1Sounds like a moot point if the PS4 Pro money is now reallocated.

I just hope they have a feature for 1080p tv. Like maybe better framerate and maybe some improvements in the way it looks.

If they do this, I will probably upgrade to pro.

Re: PS4 Pro Native 4K resolution running at 60 FPS with HDR support?

HDR is relativley new......you have different variations among the tv brands. If you are thinking about a HDRTV purchase, do your research.

Here is a very informative link that tnixon, countryboy and others have posted:

The overall best TV for movies we've tested is the Samsung S95F OLED. Its combination of perfect black levels, amazing HDR brightness, and incredibly vibrant colors gives it stunning image quality.

A few examples of HDR TVs that didn't make the cut:

Vizio P Series 2016. While it has some excellent input lag for SDR gaming, the HDR capable ports have high input lag that renders this TV not suitable for it. See our review

Sony X930D. Great TV but its input lag reaches unacceptable levels in HDR mode. See our review

Samsung KS9000. Essentially the same picture quality as the KS8000, but with a better design and higher price tag. See our review

Samsung KU7000. Same picture quality as the KU6300 but supports a wide color gamut. Not worth the extra money in our opinion, especially considering the fairly low peak brightness.

I agree that it's odd that the team has released no info on PS4 Pro functionality yet. Lots of possible reasons why have already been mentioned above and I personally suspect it's a combo of the functionality not being particularly impressive this year and Sony not wanting to cause confusion/disappointment with a market-splitting announcement.

Really, these mid-generation upgrades almost almost fizzle at best and backfire at worst. Repeated 'upgrades' did a lot to destroy the Sega brand in the nineties for example. One of the only successful examples I can think of is the N64 Expansion Pack but: that was only a cheap add-on rather than a new system and it eventually came included with an incredibly popular game so developers knew there was a good incentive to develop for it. Ditto for that system's Rumble Pak. Nintendo's much more ambitious, and expensive, N64DD add-on was essentially DOA by comparison.
Ok thats about enough with this one post. Been over a couple of pages now. 2 Mods have addressed the topic. Not that I feel I need to justify anything. It is not the question it is his response afterwards when it was answered. This is the last thing that needs to be said on the topic. Seriously.

Edit: There is nothing wrong with speculation. But we have been told twice that HDR info was incoming. So if you would like to speculate when or what info might be coming fine. But there is no grand comspiracy of withholding information.

Excuse my ignorance, and sorry if this has already been asked, but will HDR capabilities be available on the original PS4? I have a 4K HDR TV, but not the PS Pro. I've read that the original PS4 does in fact support HDR (but not 4K) but will that still be the case in The Show? Thanks.

I'd like an answer to this as well. And how much difference does hdr make?

Sort of getting back on topic here, the most interesting thing to me is the slider that was shown for HDR. I wonder what this does? Maybe adjusts for the type of HDR your tv has? ie HDR premium, HDR10? Or maybe you can adjust it to compensate for the input lag it may have depending on your tv?

                        Should be interesting to see.

You will just the colors and shadows won't get the effect that HDR puts out.

Would there be any reason to NOT have HDR turned on? I have a pretty decent TV. 1080p, don't know what else it does or if it supports HDR. But if it does, would there be a reason to not have it turned on?

I think only Sony is making 1080p TVs with hdr right now. I might be wrong but I think I read that somewhere. But to answer your question, input lag is caused by hdr in some TVs
