Re: Prep for MLBTS:17
I have a Texas Rangers Franchise I started late last year where I swapped their roster with the Braves. I made myself a pitcher on the team and I only play out the game that I pitch. The others I manage only or sportscast manage. I finished the first season last November and was going to wait until 17 to do the next year, but I went ahead and restarted it after New Years. I'm done with spring and in the first week of the season. My goal is to be at the beginning of 2018 when 17 drops.
I also have a Braves Franchise that I play with my son, but that one is on hold until 17 comes out.
I am thinking about giving DD a try this year, so I've been doing a little bit in that just to get my feet wet.Comment

Re: Prep for MLBTS:17
I quit playing the show for a while after the World Series. But recently I picked it back up and have been playing my 2 RTTS to get them to the beginning of a new season.
I also downloaded a classic roster set and have been playing with all my childhood heros in season mode, McGwire, Sosa, Chipper, etc.
I will probably end up getting the MVP edition so I can get a jump on equipment from the packs for RTTS. I'm not a huge DD player but play from time to time so the cards will come in handy. Also, I love the steel book case.Comment

Re: Prep for MLBTS:17
i might be in the real minority here but let me tell you how I feel about the Show....to do so, I have to take you back thru time a bit. Gather round kids and warm your toes by the fireplace while I share my story....
...Back when the PS3 just came out I was an exlusive XBOX owner. I literally jumped ship solely for the one game that I thought was a console seller. That game was MLB the Show.
I remember my first day with the PS3 and MLB the Show 09 (I never got 08)
The excitement I felt was equivalent to little kid experiencing puberty and sex for the very first time. It was invigorating and orgasmic! Playing Baseball more realistically in a video game than I have ever experienced on any platform since the old days of Earl Weaver Baseball on the Amiga 500 was truly a memorable time! I was giddy with excitement each year to run out and get the newest installment of this amazing game season after season...
However, somewhere, something went really wrong with my love for this franchise. If I had to plot it out on a map, I would say it was sometime since the release of the PS4....or maybe in the late days of the PS3. Regardless, my romance with the Show had seemed to end. My enthusiasm to run out and grab the next version seemed to dwindle more and more with each passing season.
If I had to place a finger on why, I personally would say quite simply that the overall experience and immersiveness of playing the game didnt quite evolve at a level to keep my interest anymore. Its a weird empty feeling because I love baseball and I yearn to be engulfed in a new and exciting baseball video game each season, but I just felt over the years that the Show really didnt stimulate my senses and juices as it once did.
Maybe its the lack of newness to the overall gameplay from previous years. Maybe its the same commentary team. Maybe its the way I see too many of the same exact things that I already expect to see because I have the previous seasons game. Im not really sure what specifically it is. Or it just may be a lot of these little things I just mentioned.
But the one thing I do know for sure is that I have actually skipped a year and passed on MLB the Show 16 last year and that was the first season I actually missed since MLB 09.
I own every single version of the game since 09 except for 16. And even my most recent purchases (13, 14 & 15) I havent even purchased them on launch day but rather was influenced to make these purchases during mid season heavily discounted sales.
So I guess im just looking for a bigger leap. Maybe a deeper experience. What I am not looking for is a watered down game that introduces more gimmicks and newer modes to appeal to the millenniums. Im an old fashion guy really just looking for a game that has a very deep franchise mode that plays really intelligent human like behavior and gameplay variety that yields unique experiences from game to game.
Im not really sure.....but I do know that I have lost a bit of my luster for this series and I wanted to share my honest feedback in a constructive manner rather than bitching and moaning.
I wonder if I am the only one that feels this way....please dont hate me if I amComment

Re: Prep for MLBTS:17
I've found this true with several games that I purchase annually, that I used to spend hours involved with daily. With age comes more responsibilities, and less free time, and it's difficult to immerse myself into games like I used to.

Re: Prep for MLBTS:17
Last summer, I set up a Pirates franchise with fairly accurate OD injuries and never made it out of April, haha. Decided to pick it back up, playing one game per series on quick counts and fastplay. Hoping to make enough progress to get me excited for a carryover in 17. Should finish off April tonight and enjoying it so far. Itching to pull the trigger on Taillon, Bell, and Glasnow!Comment

Re: Prep for MLBTS:17
In finishing up one of my RttS players season, I really hope they add back the ability for the season total to show up when you go to AB. Also, having the HR number show up when you cross home plate with the HR distance would be a nice touch as well.est 1978

Re: Prep for MLBTS:17
For me, wrapping up '16 will involve continuing my 30 Team Franchise where I handle all of the lineups, callups, injuries, I do all of the trades at the deadline based on rebuilding teams dumping veterans/adding prospects and playoff teams making moves disposing prospects. Play every 5 Mets games. Play every playoff game. Currently at Opening Day 2020.
In RTTS, I'm 28, 99 OVR. Looking forward to getting the most I can out of him in '16 and finish his career before '17 drops.
in DD, I'm working on completing missions on cards I own. Play a little Battle Royale. I HAVE to get to the 12 and 20 wins mark and get that sweet reward!!
And with my remaining Stubs, I did this in '15 where I spent my time playing the market and acquiring every card in the game. I highly doubt I'll be able to do that in '16 with all of the flashback cards, but hopefully I can at least get every live card.Comment

Re: Prep for MLBTS:17
The whole mode is based on card collecting. Yes, you can play games with the cards you own but it is a way to collect baseball cards. Being able to say, "I have every card in the game" is a way of saying I completed the mode.
In real life, when Topps releases their 2016 MLB Cards, there are people out there, who buy pack after pack to get the complete set. The game allows us to do just that (without spending real money).
It's not because I want a competitive advantage when I play online with my DD team because then I wouldn't spend 100 stubs on a 60 OVR on the Oakland Athletics. I would invest in Prime Flashback cards.
It's a cool way to Collect Baseball Cards, for free, and not leave your house.
Also, what else would you do with your leftover stubs? I do not want to buy training points and same with Franchise Budget. I personally don't play that way. Though I understand why some do.Comment

Re: Prep for MLBTS:17
Usually do just my one Yankees franchise and play all 162 games and the playoffs and never really go much past that. But this year I've actually continued into their 2017 season using a lot of their prospects (Judge, Bird, Sanchez, Austin) and have been having a lot of fun with that.
Also started a few different mostly sim franchises with other teams (BOS, SEA, CHW) just for fun and to test my GM skills and to see what I can do with these teams and I'm REALLY loving doing this.
I'll probably continue these four franchises and get as far as I can with them until 17 drops, and I'm gonna try to finish my RTTS career before then as well. Not a big DD guy at all.. I see a lot of you talk about that and what you're doing with your stubs, just never got into it and never seemed too appealing to me.
Also I'm not one to continue a RTTS or franchise into the next years game so I'll be starting everything from scratch. I love the newness and the freshness - getting so excited for 17!! Miss baseball season like crazyComment

I usually go into batting practice 2 weeks before the new release to get my timing down. I can't wait for March to come.Comment
