Count me in the group that has never selected a team to play for and just went in the draft. Seems more authentic to me to go that route. I do, however, understand the people that want to just play for a specific team. Nothing wrong with that.

If I got chosen by the Braves or Marlins I would be ok I think. I just hate the Mets and Nationals with a passion. Don't really have any hate towards the Braves and Marlins.

I guess I can save before the draft and just keep on doing it until I get a team I like.. No way I'm playing for the Indians or White Sox..

Guess I'll continue my current player, which I was going to do anyway but would have liked to play around with the new stuff. But I always selected my team and not interested in playing in another way (been playing that way since the original year on the PS2). So this really stinks for me and can chalk it up to another mode in this game I have very little interest in. Thank goodness I can continue my current one though.

So what all do you get when you are continuing a career, do you still get some of these decision screens? I guess I could always keep my 16 copy and start a career there with a certain team and then advance forward.

My closer ended up on the White Sox last year. Between the limited training points a closer earns and the fact that the White Sox did not have that many save opportunities he kind of languished.

I'm such a baseball fan that I think getting drafted by a team I hated would be a fun challenge. I mean I can only imagine how many real life players get drafted by or make their big league debut with a team that they grew up disliking for whatever reason. But of course at that point they'll never do anything to jeopardize that opportunity so having to suck it up and be on your least favorite team is part of the fun of getting to the majors to begin with.

The difference is they're getting paid to play for a team they grew up disliking.. Many times I go the draft route but I like to have 1 position player, and 1 pitcher who plays for the Tigers. Kind of fulfills my dream when I was a child..

I'm always pro options, so I definitely get people being upset with team select being removed, but I'd personally go the draft route regardless. I figure if I'm drafted by the Sox it's more rewarding and, if not, it's a chance to try something new.

With PYP, I'm actually hoping to get drafted by the Yankees just so I can have the privilege of telling them to stick it.

Re: No more picking team in rtts?!?!

I've done both I've only picked a team because they had a weakness at a position and it would help me reach the Show faster. I actually did that a couple weeks ago in 16 I created a Catcher for the Marlins and also did another one for the Padres and both got to the show pretty quickly just by simming games. Though my Padres catcher eventually got benched because I sucked

Sometimes I'd enter the draft and let a random team pick me I'd play for any team except the Rays, and the A's their stadiums are both just awful... but I always got bummed out when the team that picked me had a better player at my position.

Now that the manager tells us we can change positions I guess I can live with whoever picks me. At least we have agents now maybe we can request a trade like NBA 2k to our favorite team?

I was kind of annoyed they took that option out but it's not a dealbreaker for me. Whenever I picked my team (the Tigers) the CPU just traded my guy his first season anyway.

And to their credit, that's EXACTLY what Sony San Diego is doing with Pave Your Path--if you talk to the team on the phone and say you didn't want to play for them, they'll be furious at having wasted a pick on an ungrateful jerk like you, and every other team will now be wary of drafting you.

Big props to the devs and writers for putting that in. It's one reason I'm so looking forward to RTTS this year--I'm even thinking of making a dynasty thread on it.

(Side note: I really, really want to agree with you on California and Chicago teams...but that would move the discussion to something that really doesn't belong on this board.)

As for being able to spend stubs on the character, that's ALSO my point.
People want to have it both ways. You can't.
You don't HAVE to spend stubs on training points. You can always progress naturally.
But because you have the OPTION to do so, now we have to make the mode into full-blown fantasy stuff? It can only be either MLB Slugfest or roguelike-permadeath?

...That being said, in the interest of full disclosure, I do admit to always keeping 1,000 stubs on hand in case I need to heal what would be a season/career-ending injury. I've never had to use such yet, but still.

Yeah you do come off as a jerk at times, but sometimes a player just prefers not to play so far away from his family, so he tells the team please dont draft me. It does happen IRL, so thats why I lean towards the side of those not happy with the option being taken out.
Now if they were to put in something like where you meet with some from teams interested in drafting you, and if its a team you dont like or want to play for then, you could have the option of saying dont draft me. NBA2k has this in their MyPlayer mode, where teams looking at drafting you meet with you and you ask a couple questions, where 1 is what your thought on playing for us, and you have the option of saying you prefer they dont draft you.
IRL do you come off as probably a jerk to that team or that fan base, yeah, more than likely, but personally if it were me, and i didnt want to play for a franchise I could care less what they thought of me.

I actually never even knew you could pick your team, and wouldn't have picked it if I could. Draftees can't pick who drafts them, why should I be able to? I'm trying to get a realistic experience.

Not mad that the option is gone. In real life you can make a statement about wanting to be drafted by a certain team, but that doesn't mean you are automatically drafted by that team.

I like entering the draft and the suspense of not knowing what team I'll be picked by.

If you really want to play with your favorite team, grind out your first 6 years, become FA eligible and wait out until spring training. Try out with your favorite team and hope they offer you a contract(they usually will) after spring training.

In real life, grinding through your 6 years until your FA eligible is worth it when you get to choose your team and earn that big contract.
