Yup! I wouldn't want it any other way. I LOVE the agony of a bad call and I love even more that the ump has me cursing at him because he's forcing me to throw a better pitch than I want.

    Takes me back

I agree. And maybe things have changed since I played this series (2012), but from my previous experience there didn't seem to be an consistency with the bad calls.
If they always called a pitch that was low-and-away a strike against lefties then so be it.
But I found that their bad calls were all over the map.
One AB it's down and in. The next AB is high and away.
And the ball that was called for a strike to the last batter is now a ball to the current one.
It seemed more random for the sake of creating artificially poor umpires than anything else.
Again, I fully admit it's been a long time since I've played this series so maybe things have changed. Or maybe I have a select memory. But that is my recollection of dynamic umpires from yesteryear.

Off topic, but MLB Tonight was asking why there aren't full time plate umps?
The league should make sure the best plate umpires are always calling balls and strikes.
The umpire union seems to be overly strong.
If you're a bad plate umpire, then you shouldn't be calling games.

this was still the case as recently as last year, but i think (small sample size) they've finally tweaked it to be more consistent. saw some nice things a couple times.

Because the game also emulates real life where the players make mistakes.

That said, isn't the variable strike zone something that can be turned off?

You can turn it off in the general options ( advanced ): Umpire Accuracy and Umpire Close Plays.

I love this game. However, the post game highlight reel lacks drama and intensity. Watch any broadcast and the highlights are close ups mixed with panoramic shots to the outfield and is an exciting fast paced package. I feel like the highlights in MLB The Show labor and I often pull away before it finishes. It doesn't do the game justice imo.

That sentiment is why they patch elements of realism out of sports games. At least in this case they give us the option to have or not to have.

Enjoying the balance between the catcher throwing and not throwing the ball back in broadcast. I never have to hit the button to skip the animation.

Just had a walk off double in the 9th off the bat of Matt Adams.

Sure it was Spring Training but that didn't stop me from pumping my fist and shouting.

I was down 7-0 after 4 innings as the Mets vs Marlins. Walked off in bot 9th with a 8-7 win!...and screamed!

I played a game last night Cubs (me) vs Mets at Citi Field.

Framerate was attrocious. So many of my batters struck out because of framerate stutter as the pitch is delivered right through to me trying to swing at it and it going straight past me.

                              Very disappointing to see.

I'm on a standard PS4. Wish they could have a setting to reduce textures or something to improve the framerate as with the PS4 Pro...I'll happily switch this setting on.

                                This so much!!!!

I am really happy they added back in some throwing back to the pitcher animations and gave us full broadcast presentation fans a compromise. I realize their telemetry over the years showed a large majority “x” through cut scenes and what not, but this season I have not been skipping at all because we are getting a nice balance of batter step out’s and step back in’s as well as the catcher throwing the ball back.

Presentation is the best it has been since MLBTS 11 which was the last time we had full broadcast mode and the since defunct Real Time Presentation.

Kudos SDS for listening to us and giving some of the "lazy day at the ball park" vibe back!!!!

In other awesome impression news for the game I am literally seeing new fielding and throwing animations every game.....it is simply marvelous.
