What really lowers his value is having to pay him $32 million in his age 40 season with 2 options attached and another $8 million that is in the form of a buyout. Players decline hard in their later 30's. Most aren't David Ortiz like and continue to succeed. Although most didn't fail a PED test like Ortiz. Not that it had to do with his longterm success, just pointing it out.

Ok I understand now I've notice that as soon as they turn 30 they seem to lose stats Pretty quickly just trying to add more talent to the minors for Detroit it seems very light

Yeah hadn't realised just how old and short on young talent the tigers are

You also don't have much in the way of young talent that would give the Reds much reason to trade away their young CF

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I think I found a good deal for Dee Gordon in my Marlins franchise but wanted to run it by you guys first. The Athletics hold the #1 wild-card spot right now at 51-44 and getting so-so production out of Jed Lowrie, who is in a contract year. I'm thinking.
Dee Gordon- .296/.337/.425 with 32 extra base hits and 22 SB's.
For
Franklin Barreto- (can't get his Triple-A numbers because he's just been promoted.)
Frankie Montas- 105 IP, 3.77 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 125 K, 3.33 FIP, 4.00 ERC, 1.80 PFR.Comment

Until Gordon shows everyone he can still produce after getting caught with PEDs no one will think he is the 4.7 WAR player he was in 2017 and they'll see him as more the 2 WAR player he was projected to be this year.Comment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
That's too much for Gordon. He got caught with PEDs. That hurts his value. Plus Barreto is all Beane has left of his Donaldson deal so he really needs to keep him and have him pan out.

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Here is what I'm looking at. Let me know how far off I am.
WAS Receives
Paul Goldschmidt
Ronnie Freeman
ARI Receives
Victor Robles
Erick Fedde
Carter Kieboom
Spencer Kieboom
CHC Receives
Zack Greinke
A.J. Pollock
Ivan Pineyro
ARI Receives
Jason Heyward
Ian Happ
Dylan Cease
Jeimer Candelario
Easy one first, I strongly feel that you are shorting yourself in the P.Goldschmidt deal. Yes he fits and yes it gets you a player you want in Robles but if you announce you're looking to trade a franchise 1B of his caliber, your phone will not stop ringing until a deal is announced. This will be every club, position depth and payroll be damned. Let me know if you want to look around but if you're high on the guys you're getting in return, its a done deal.
Now to Greinke...it just doesn't pass the smell test for me. Does the value equal our with Pollock added? Without getting my calculator out, it appears to. Does it clear payroll for the Cubs to give K.Bryant a lifetime contract in 2022? Yes. Does it get you Happ? Yes. If I'm working for Theo, do I recommend this deal? No. I think I can recommend a different approach that gets rid of Greinke, gets you Happ and a potential franchise 1B to replace Goldschmidt sooner rather than later.
I like Greinke to LAD. We can use A.Either 17mm next year to help with the money ARZ is sure to have to kick in if they were to trade him. That alone brings Y.Alvarez into play though he is years away and you already have a stable of young projectable arms. I don't think it's much of a stretch to swap C.Bellinger for Alvarez and even if it is, a small piece from you should make that up.
Use A.Bradley or R.Ray to get Happ. That's a much more palatable deal and even gets you a smaller piece from CHC if you use Bradley and should work for Ray straight up.
And we still haven't traded Pollack which will finish restocking the farm with his pieces and what you eventually get for Goldschmidt.
I know this may break up your plan but this will be the most important trade period ARZ works for years to come (provided you fired everybody in the front office and told ownership to leave you alone). I do not envy M.Hazen IRL."for love of the game" - B. ChapelComment

What would you say to a K.Wang/L.Weaver/farm hand package for Gordon? That glove/speed/contract combination is too good to sell low on, dope aside. You can always package Gordon with a bullpen piece or one of the arms the Marlins have in development but I just don't think it's necessary here."for love of the game" - B. ChapelComment

I looked at this yesterday and wanted to get back to you but, yeah, I didn't. Though it does surprise me nobody poked holes in it but I will give my 2 cents since I've already tinkered with selling your guys.

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I'm a tad higher on Gordon but can certainly respect the PED cloud hanging over him. I've always seen him in a place like STL (provided he continues to play hard and keep his nose clean...which I believe he will do both).

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Ideally, I end the trade deadline with headliners of Happ, Robles and Bellinger. Think that is possible? I'm open to moving just about everyone if that makes room for other deals. I'm all ears on other ideas you may have. I'm really excited about this deadline!
Edit: Thanks for getting back to me on this. I've been dying to make these deals.
I have no issue recommending I.Happ for R.Ray straight up.
Use the Grienke package you were offering the Cubs and flip it to LAD for A.Either and C.Bellinger. Do it quick because he hit .350+ in AAA and got called up today.
Ship A.Pollock to TOR for S.Reid-Foley/A.Alford/M.Pentecost or any package from another team with a similar makeup/value (legit projectable arm/young exciting athlete/above average ball player) that could use him long-term.
I expect there may be some tweaks from feedback but think I'm pretty close all around. Just do me a favor, next year, package some of the arms you have down on the farm for a couple of guys that will play 162 games instead of 30."for love of the game" - B. ChapelComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
If Robles is your guy and that's who you want (nothing but upside, good choice), then stay with your original deal. Feede is legit and I like what you did with the brothers as it could provide a neat narrative for the story of the franchise. Keep Freeman and use your best 30+ yr. old D POT farm hand to get all 4 players from the Nats.
