Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

I'm 38-32 in my Pirates franchise. I'm 9 games behind the Cubs in the division and 3.5 games behind the Cardinals for the last Wild Card spot. I have a big series coming up with the Cardinals this weekend. I'm on the fence on trading McCutchen and calling up Meadows and doing a rebuild or making a move to make a push. I could pull the trigger on a trade with the White Sox for Glasnow and Meadows for Quintana and they would even do Robertson as well. They would even accept a deal for just Glasnow but I know that's not real. What should I expect for McCutchen? Do you use the shop feature to look at all the offers?

With the off field troubles keep stacking on Matt harvey...could that lower the asking price to obtain him?

You want one of the better players on my team (and I imagine, cost controlled as well). For the privilege of doing business with you I get to eat 16mm and have Markakis block whatever potential player I have coming up (or have a very expensive bench warmer). Along with getting to select a couple of your 2nd tier prospects because you'd like to keep your elites.

If you don't like Markakis, cut him. If someone picks him up, you're off the hook. Otherwise, you're going to have a tough time getting a competitor to buy into that deal. You have the pieces to get something like this done but you're going to keep that contract and open up to the possibility of moving one of your top prospects (depending on the player).

Who did you have in mind? Come up with a couple and I can help you value them and that way you can choose. However, at 57-41 and 4 games up (no way this works out in a sim, I'm assuming you're pushing the buttons for most/all of your games), why mess with success?

        Thanks, highly appreciate!

I think I need to reevaluate how MLB trades work haha as I'm more used to NHL ones. Balancing cap is a must in NHL, which is common (or should I say an obligation) to send a big contract if a big one is coming back.

Indeed, I'm playing all games or close to at Hall of fame level for pitching/batting.

I know they all have different value, but I try to target good players from rebuilding teams to keep it somewhat realistic. Maybe :

        Andrew McCutchen
        Carlos Gonzalez
        David Peralta
        AJ Pollock
        Yasmany Thomas
        Ryan Braun (if cheaper)
Jarrett Parker (got my eyes on him for a while.. he's playing good & would cost a lot less)
        OF from LAD (Thompson, Peterson)

I know there's a lot.. no need to give me value for each (if you do, thanks in advance!).

I am the Twins but it is more of a all around question then just me trying to deal for him.

The deal I pulled off was Glasnow and Josh Bell for Quintana because Meadows will be the guy replacing Mccutchen when he's gone .

My two cents on this...short answer is no.

This is why, if NYM is "in it" at the break, they need his innings an nobody will trade someone that can achieve equivalent innings at his price tag (currently 5mm with one more trip through arb to go). If NYM falls out of it, you will hear rumors but the market for him will be limited. Not just for teams making a push but for teams out of it because now he's a headcase that can't put 2 consistent starts together over his last 20.

Regardless of each scenario, I truly feel he is with the Mets for the rest of the season. The kicker here is since his QO gets them the sandwich pick after round 2, his value falls off but Matthew Edward (you always call children that make poor choices by their full name) knows he has another hearing to attend so should clean his act up and do the right thing going forward. Ownership will then have to decide to put up with him for another year or trade him for a package that is not commensurate with his talent (not production). That is if (and that's a big IF) he can fix his slider before the winter meetings. Otherwise, we might be talking about him as a reliever this time next year.

First, I didn't mean to insinuate that you pushing buttons and not simming games was a bad thing, sorry if it came off that way. I'm happy when anybody enjoys the video game they bought!

Second, welcome to the league of no salary cap! Realistically, all teams want to stay under the luxury tax (competitive balance tax) but it was raised this year to 195mm so only a handful of the largest payroll, large market teams are in that vicinity.

All the guys you listed could be considered realistic targets for the '17 version of the "Miracle at SunTrust" with the exception of your LAD targets. If LAD is out of it, Y.Puig can be had for 2 B level prospects. If you use the 'search this thread' window on top (under the page numbers), you can plug in the names of the other guys and get exact deals with other teams (along with a spreadsheet Mr. Serendipity is working on, link is in his signature block) as we've talked about most of them already over the 250 some odd pages of this thread. If you don't get anywhere or have a specific question on a deal, go ahead and post it and if someone doesn't reply, I'll get back to you tomorrow night.

On J.Parker specifically, I did some quick research and we're talking about a guy that topped out at #9 (2015) in a middle of the road type farm system. He's been up and down with the big club the last couple of years and now has broken his collar bone so I don't expect we'll see much of him for the rest of the year. He's the cheapest of the group and you're looking at Ricardo Sanchez for him (if he made your version of the roster). It was a tough match because ATL farm is so good some of the lower end guys might not have made it. If he didn't, give them a young C POT SP from your AA club that is not considered a top 20 prospect.

Have we come to a conclusion on Joey Votto's value? I apologize if I missed it but I searched the thread and couldn't find an agreed upon answer.

I just made it to the 2017 World Series (haven't played game 1 yet) with the Jays, so obviously this move would take place in the off season. I know Votto has maybe said he prefers to say with the Reds but if he was ever going to waive I think the Jays coming off a World Series would be believable.

Not sure there is a prospect I would be against moving for him, as despite his massive contract I could use a LH bat to pair with Donaldson. Only prospect I don't have is SRF as I traded him already. Thanks in advance.

That is a fair trade. The Dodgers are in first place by 12 games and I can trade McCutchen to them for Verdugo, Calhoun, and Y. Sierra. The Dodgers would bench Puig against righties and Toles against lefties. Puig is hitting .250 with 9 HR in 60 games. So the Dodgers would be getting an small upgrade in RF with McCutchen (.270 avg, 11 HR). Is that trade a fair trade?

I am thinking that I might want to shop Didi Gregorius in my yankees franchise but I wasnt sure what kind of value that I could get for him. Not even sure if i really want to shop him. Also was curious about what kind of value that I could get for Tanaka.

I was offered this deal by the Yankees and want to know what you guys think.

It is the first week of May in my Braves Franchise. Yankees are in first but their starting rotation is hurting. I currently have Bartolo on the block. He is 3-1 with a 3.48 era. Here is the deal.

                            Braves get:
                            Billy McKinney/OF - 60 - B

                            Yankees Get:
                            Bartolo Colon/P - 78 - A
                            Ryan Howard/1B - 70 - b (Hitting .300 with 1 Hr as a PH for me)
                            C rated OF Prospect

If this is a widespread issue and has been brought up repeatedly, I apologize. I don't frequent this forum. After the first big update all my settings were reset. Did anyone else have this issue? Basically the game behaved as if it were my first time playing it. Kind of annoying, but luckily my franchise save was still there.

So after another part of the Matt Harvey saga how much is his true value now. I'm around the same time in my Padres chise and actually thinking of picking him up. What about Ryan Butcher (they are stuggling in the pen) and (1 B prospect and a C) or (2 C prospects). I'm gonna bump his rating down a little to because of all this and his potential.
