Tyler Naquin I usually hate doing younger players, but let's see. He is locked up for this year and next at minimum, and then has 4 years of ARB. So still a ton of control. Let's say he averages 3 WAR (2.5 last year) for the rest of his contract...He will likely have ~129 million in value in the trade market. That is with my own formula of ARB of course, but he is very valuable is all I am trying to say.

So, I think I would trade Bauer off for some prospects, and then flip them along with a good one of yours for Teheran in an unofficial three team deal.

That's a bit of a reach to assume he averages 3 WAR imo. Yes he had the 2.5 WAR his rookie year but was largely fueled by a .411 BABIP which we all know is highly unsustainable.

That's not bad at all. May pull it. About to pull the Chirinos deal as well

I'm just curious as I'm playing my pirates franchise that I'm playing out and I'm 9-0 so far heading into my weekend matchup against the Cubs. I like Gerrit Cole, but I think Taillon and Glasnow have a much brighter future in Pittsburgh as Cole is a Scott Boras client. I was wondering if I were to trade Cole what would a return look like.

Power hitting 2B fetch a decent haul IMO. For Dozier no less than 2 "A"prospects and a journeyman type 2B back to fill that hole temporarily.

Archer is a young Ace in his prime.

Got to he able to send back a veteran player on the back half of his prime and at least an A prospect and B prospect. Or 3 A prospects.

Those players are in their prime. They won't come cheap.

Archers contract is great too. So that has more worth as well. Gotta pay up to get a pitcher of his caliber with that kind of contract.

Cole's value is largely dependent on how he's playing and if he's shown he can stay healthy.

You would be selling awfully low if you dealt him early in the season.

Looking to bring a young SS or 3B to the Padres. Myers, Margot, and Renfroe are the only players I won't move.

I would trade him at the deadline or in the winter

Then you'll have to let us know how he did to that point. If we say now it's purely speculation

Young and ready or just young? I like C. Moran (HOU) as he is blocked and "should" be a steady everyday 3B next year. Not a superstar but at the cheaper end of the spectrum.

What about sending Carter Capps to the Cubs for Candeliaro. He's blocked at 3rd and Capps is pretty amazing with his illegal hop throwing

Who are you getting? Is it this generation's Edgar Martinez? Or is it a player I may not get 500 AB's/yr from that I have close my eyes if I ever put him in the field? The Rays wouldn't be interested as they have plenty of young bats to take a look at and the A's...maybe?

It would be interesting to see if the A's and Cubs would be willing to trade risk for risk in some type of package for S. Gray. However, outside of a simple surplus calculation (which would not indicate his true value), Schwarber is going to have to give the league a full season on his knee that had to be reattached to his body before we can realistically talk about him being moved. I doubt you will even hear rumors of him moving this year as the Cubs have plenty of young prospects they can move for the pitching they want.
Thanks for the response. I'm willing to deal Gray away. Who else would I need to include? Going to do this before the start of the season.
                        Thanks

The Cubs wouldn't include Schwarber in a deal for Andrew Miller. They wouldn't move him for Sonny Gray unless he's pitching like Cy Young levels. You'd have to include something pretty good along with Gray in my opinion

I completely agree that's why I'm asking who else to include. I'm willing to include anyone and everyone to get this done.

But that was before he blew out both sides of his knee. They have a similar type of prospect coming in E. Jimenez who may/may not need to be included in a Archer/Q type of deal but if not, projects better than Schwarber at this point (IMO).

This is a tricky one though and I'm open to feedback. I, personally, am low on Schwarber and don't want to undervalue him. Secondary pieces would mean a lot in this type of deal. Thinking Chalmers (OAK) and Happ (CHC) in a 4 player deal. Beane and Theo have a relationship and I don't think this is out of the realm of possibilities. Thoughts?

That seems like a massive overpay from the Cubs. Schwarber was worth 1.9 WAR in 273 at bats his rookie year. He only tore his ACL and LCL he didn't blow up both sides of his knee. Technically he didn't tear either side of his knee just the big stabilizing ligament and the back ligament.

Gray was worth .7 WAR last year. Using the formula AC gave we should expect Gray to be worth about 1.8 WAR going forward. The most recent year is worth 60% of the projection and Gray was pretty bad last year. Schwarber is projected to accumulate 2.6 WAR this season according to STEAMER. So there along he's worth more this year and he has more team control. Then we get to the second half you mentioned. Happ is a really good prospect. Chalmers doesn't really have any fanfare in scouting communities. He didn't make it in the Top-10 of the A's list on Baseball America.

So Both Schwarber and Happ are markedly better than the piece coming from the A's side of the suggested deal.
