Re: Convince me to switch to directional hitting
Does flicking the stick with directional/timing have an influence on the hit at all?

Re: Convince me to switch to directional hitting
This is a good conversation every year. I use zone with the PCI off. Zone gives you by far the most control and is the most rewarding in my opinion.
I feel like timing options are way too reliant on ratings and luck. I want to be in control at the plate, and if I get beat because I am looking inside and the pitch is a breaking ball away....well then so be it.
Zone is still timing based too, it just adds another element. If you time it perfectly AND you get the PCI on the ball, you have a much better chance at a base hit than if you just time it right on directional.Comment

Re: Convince me to switch to directional hitting
My guess is because players who are really good at controlling the PCI can get unrealistically good results with even mediocre hitters.
I might try directional a little this year. I use Zone even though I suck at moving the PCI. But I also remember hating having good timing on down the middle pitches only to pop out. Then when I look at the pitch result I see that the computer had placed the PCI at the bottom of the strike zone.Comment

Re: Convince me to switch to directional hitting
Of course ratings matter in each batting mode. Just some modes let ratings be the driving force of the dice roll more than others. This is always an interesting conversation, and there is no wrong answer. This is similar to the User Catch vs No Switch styles of gameplay in Madden.
Bottom line is, it is awesome that we have all these options. I wish every sports game offered such robust and viable ways to play"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: Convince me to switch to directional hitting
Ever since they put analog hitting in that's always been my go to. Feels really fun to load back on the stick and pull it forward to jack a bomb. (pause)

Re: Convince me to switch to directional hitting
I'm trying to get more into directional hitting but I have questions that I can't definitively figure out. Maybe you all can help...
Am I pressing the direction to make contact with the ball like if the pitch is high I press up or if the pitch is low I press down? Or am I pressing the direction to influence where I want the hit to go such as I swing down if I want to hit a groundball or I swing up if I want to hit a flyball? If it's the second one, and I want to hit a flyball do I still press up if the pitch is down?
Should I be pressing the direction as in I'm swinging or should I do it before the pitch is delivered kinda like when doing guess pitch?
And lastly what happens if I just don't press any swing? And is there a time where that is an option I should be doing?
Thanks in advance. I wanna figure this out but trying to get this in the split second that a pitch is coming at me is making this difficult.Comment

Re: Convince me to switch to directional hitting
I find it distracting to have it on. I also dont want to move it beforehand, which I think is the point of having it on. I'd rather sit on a pitch and flick the stick in that direction as I swing.Comment

FYI, not trying to argue you, I'm trying to learn this and wanna question the best way to play it so I'm curious.Comment

Re: Convince me to switch to directional hitting
But the pci is still there right? I get that it's distracting but if it's still there and you can't see it how will you ever get it in the right spot? Seems like you're totally just leaving it to chance this way.

Re: Convince me to switch to directional hitting
Is there still an option for simply timed hitting with no directional input needed?
