That's why I think it's best not to worry about it. But I do agree having played 200 plus MLB Show games in 15 and 16 that something is off with the HR's.Former Bison, Argonaut, TSN and Sportsnet employee.

No, and I likely won't for a while (especially because I'll be setting the game aside for a new release tonight). It's definitely having an effect on my ability to make solid contact, but I can still hit the ball out of the ballpark too. I think there's an answer in there somewhere, but it'll take time to figure it out (and that's just for my own skill level, not even trying to consider anyone else's)
It doesn't seem to have a whole lot of impact on the CPU's ability to barrel, though. I saw one of the more absurd HR's I've seen this year with contact = 3 just now:

Previously in this thread I stated I also wanted a sim baseball experience but had a differing opinion on how to achieve it.
After reading the posts since and re-reading the posts before it, I have realized I do not share the same definition of sim baseball and some of you have a definition of baseball that hasn't existed for a couple decades.
Individuals are promoting sliders that produce .5 to .7 HR's per game, which ranges from unrealistic to the worst power hitting teams over the last ten years.
A sim baseball experience should produce an average of approximately two HR's per game.
Given the number of players and the range in experience/skill levels, it should be expected that even a sim video game produces results outside that norm. As such, the denigration of the devs and the "casual" players is BS.
Even the "casual" players should be deserving of a sim experience. They're not going to adjust sliders, but you, the "hardcore purist", will. Additionally it should be considered that were it not for the "casual" players there would not be a game or should there be a game it wouldn't be of nearly the same quality.
Restating what I said in my previous post, if you're giving up too many HR's, the problem is that you need to improve your pitching strategy and/or mastery of the input controls. And if you're hitting too many HR's, bump up a level. Baseball players make adjustments.Comment

I just finished spring training and the stats look good for the final spring numbers. Baltimore led with 46 HRs. Cubs .281 Ave. Dodgers 3.01 ERA.
In my opinion good solid numbers on the computer generated side. As for my Cardinals my pitching was very solid but as normal, I lacked some at that plate.
I settled on HOF on hitting, pitching and fielding. I'm using directional as a timing mode but I am not convinced that the players attributes are really controlling the PCI. I cannot seem to find anything that actually shows the contact of the ball on the bat. Does anyone know where to find that?Comment

There's definitely something off with this year's version of the game...it needs to be tweaked in a patch. I've lowered the following sliders for both CPU and HUMAN:
Contact
Timing
Power
Solid Hits
Balls are traveling far too deep too often on homers
And the kicker was last night I took a check swing and hit a line drive to right field off the wall. It felt like it should have went no further than to the first basemen. But the ball physics, gravity, etc is off somewhatComment

I saw this thread the other day and I was gonna comment on it but instead I chose to wait until after the first few Opening Day games to use as comparison and boy was it worth the wait! Look at the crazy number of HR's hit between yesterday and today! There have been at least 10+ HR's hit including 2 grand slams in 2 days! Bumgarner hit 2, Odor hit 2, Grandal hit 2 (one on each side of the plate)!
Some might see more HR's than others based on player skill and game difficulty but I think its safe to say that the game is pretty accurate!MLB: Miami Marlins

Label_hitchance filter in the batter analysis can clue you in on where the pci was placed in directional hitting. On the surface, a check swing off the wall isn't unprecedented. However it does require a strong individual, so I'm assuming it wasn't Aoki. For what it's worth, in college, I hit a piss rod check swing line drive directly to the left fielder. I'm was nothing more than the prototypical middle infielder with gap power. Thus, based simply on personal experience, I wouldn't be surprised if someone bigger and stronger actually hit it off the wall.
Fortunately, you don't have to rely on my personal experience or conjectures as similar occurrences have actually happened in MLB. Search hard enough and I'm certain you can find some video footage.Comment
