What you are describing is a normal distribution. As you can see, this is fairly typical. Unfortunately I only had time to include 2016. Calculated as home runs - away runs, so from the home team's perspective (meaning maybe a slight home team advantage).



You cannot criticize the devs when, having played just a sample of 20 games (less than an eighth of the season not nearly a big enough sample to draw any meaningful conclusions from), your score distribution is slightly more narrow than what happened in real life last year.

I'm not in any position to comment on your ball physics argument, but I've personally enjoyed them this year. That's neither here nor there, though. This is for Franchise mode.

Critical moments are a welcome addition. Free agent logic has gotten better, with contract demands beginning to line up to value somewhat. Prospect progression has gotten infinitely more realistic, even if it's not entirely hands-on. CPU teams don't draft quite as stupidly. It's enough to take it from, i dunno, a 7 to a 7.5 for me. But that 5% boost is still more work than anyone will ever give them credit for. It's okay to recognize their contributions while also giving feedback on what can be improved.

First of all I commend you for such an excellent chart. The colors were bright and easy to see. Some of the bars were higher than others. One bar was really, really high. Other bars were really, really low. From a purely aesthetic standpoint I give your chart an A. Unfortunately from a statistical accuracy standpoint I give it an F-.

After 20 games before I gave up and quit 15 of 20 games were 1 run games - 75%.

I'm not a chart expert but I can see clearly MLBTS 17 is almost exactly the opposite of IRL. 75% vs 27%.

19 of 20 games - 95% were 2 runs or less in my franchise.

This is why the devs are never going to give us what we want. It would've been nice if you'd read the chart before you came up with a condescending comeback. My numbers are quite literally the exact same of yours, which makes sense, because we both used the exact same data. 28% of games being 1 run games - check. 68% of data in a normal distribution lies within a 2 SD band; 61% of the data here lies within that band. We are both looking at a normal distribution.

1 run: 28%
2 runs: 18%
3 runs: 15%

And so on. So yes, there is one very big bar! The data is indeed normally distributed, and sets our expectation. Now, to your actual point. You've seen a 75% rate of 1 run games. That is a very high rate. That rate should be closer to about 30%. However, you are looking at a sample of 20 games. I am looking at a sample of 2428 games.

What you have posted absolutely happened, and could absolutely be a flaw in the game; but SCEA is not going to pay its developers real money to investigate what essentially amounts to a gut feeling. I have a feeling that if you continue to manage games, your results will look a lot like the above (I'll even put them in an aesthetically pleasing graph for you, on my own time!). They might not, and that'd be great, because it's helpful to find flaws in the game the devs aren't aware of. To be honest, I have no idea if you're onto something or not. But you can't come in here posting about how they've made no improvements and expecting them to spend resources on this because of a sample size of 20.


If you flip a coin 20 times, and get 75% heads; and I flip a coin 150 times, and I get 45% tails; is MLB The Show broken?

And they will be fixed. Believe me.....they fix this stuff.

Quirks are also a new feature and like Player morale it will have some growing pains year one.

But they continue to make improvements, add features and evolve this game.

This year the main focus was gameplay and they freaking killed it.

News alert.

Even rabid offline franchise players like myself want gameplay on the field as the #1 focus year in and year out. I have had many many discussions with many members here about gameplay improvements and how important that is to the overall franchise experience.

Of course I want more franchise enhancements (just like everyone else) but I could care less about any franchise features if the game does not play great.

And this years game plays the best console baseball I have ever seen and experienced.

My immersion in my franchise mode starts with “ME”. I have awesome storylines going in every franchise and classic season replay I engage in. It allows me to throughly enjoy myself each and every year as the team continues to add features every single year into franchise mode. Sometimes we get things we want, sometimes we get things we never thought of and sometimes we continue to wait for features we want.

But they keep improving this game year in year out. They listen to the fan base. They really do. More than any dev team I have ever interacted with here.

2K does a great job and Madden the last 2 years has really stepped up. Sports games have never ever been better.

I don’t get the insanity I read on here daily these days......I seriously can’t believe half the crap I am reading on the forums these days. We have great threads that make great points and suggestions and then we have pure ****ery on the boards. And some threads just spiral into griping and moaning and groaning over absolute BS.

It’s never been a better time to be a sports video game player.

Scouting/drafting needs to be addressed. 7 incomplete rounds isn't good enough in game that requires you to maintain depth charts for 3 different levels. And this game, like every other sports game, still can't get the age of draft prospects right. Scouting needs to be expanded to allow us to continue to scout throughout the summer. And an overhaul of the trade system would be nice. Three team trades and the ability to include money from your budget in a trade would make things much more realistic than the basic two team, 6 player max system we've seen in sports games for well over a decade. The NHL series allows for salary retention which basically amounts to the same thing as sending money with a player with a big contract and allows for up to 5 assets from each team to be selected, and the 2K series allows for three team trades. But we've yet to see game incorporate all those things.

Nevertheless, the truth about Franchise mode in the Show is that it USED TO BE more robust. They took out the financials and, much more importantly, haven't changed scouting, drafting, prospect generation logic (age, attributes), and prospect progression (not progression in general: I know it's performance-based now) in several years if ever.

That's unacceptable.

I like what Madden has done with Franchise, but can't stand the gameplay and the menus (menus/presentation is very important to me in franchise mode). 2K has a LOT to like in MyGM and, in my opinion, KILLS the Show in terms of franchise features. But in the end, I couldn't care less about those games after a month or so -- I love the Show, and I want them to do work on Franchise mode.

Absolutely agree. The radio show really helped some immersion while in the menu's looking at stat's, lineups etc. I would like to see a more robust monthly show going around the league featuring players of the month, a "down on the farm" report for the top performers around the MILB. Also an off-season Hot Stove report. The off-season is supposed to be the pinnacle of the off the field activities and I would love to see more news headlines about trades and contracts.

I loved the newspapers as well as anyone. But the Radio show replaced that. I liked the finance stuff and promotional days, but we all knew it has zero impact.

I think a more robust owner mode would really go a long way in satisfying a lot of the franchise players.

Like I said...I want more too. We all do. I am really glad though they amped up the gameplay and made this game a serious true next gen baseball game this year. It is incredible on the the field.

I expect franchise mode will get some more enhancements next season. But like you, I believe presentation is the vital cog in making franchise mode that much better. It needs to be dynamic (play by play, OSD's with stats. more stats and yes more stat's as baseball is all about stat's, match-ups and hisitorical stat's against).

I would love to see further enhancement of quirks and morale and like you and many others a revamp of scouting and drafting. It needs an overhaul in logic for sure. It's not bad, but it is not up to par with the NBA 2K series.

2K My League is amazing. The customization features of that mode is second to none and I would love to see that in The Show. I would love to be able to create my own old school league with no wild cards and expansion teams and allow myself to recreate a true 1985, 1990 or whatever my heart desires type of season.

I know relocation is huge on peoples lists. Hopefully it is a possibility one day. I am quite certain create a stadium is not happening to the degree people would want it. I think they probably looked at it and felt it would be really half baked and limited.

To me with franchise mode these are my top priorities.

1) Presentation (which took a huge step this year with the MLBN package and a two new guys in the booth who are worlds better than their predecessors)

2) AI GM logic/Trade Logic/Off-season Logic/AI logic on field

3) Off-season presentation

4) Draft and Scouting

5) Dynamic Injury System/rehab games/lingering injuries

6) Better regression and progression

I know these things are at the top of just about everyone's list but for me, the biggest things I want are:

1) Rotating Interleague Schedules

2) Ability to Edit Coaches

3) Ability to view coaches/managers for other teams

4) Milestone Tracker

Agree about gameplay being on-point this year. Great stuff, especially out-of-position errors, umps being even more wrong, and ball physics.

I separate in-game presentation from franchise presentation: menus, "hubs," all that stuff. More than just some squares and a calendar. All franchise modes in sports games fall short in this, I think, but in MLBTS soooooo much more can be done with STATS, just like you said. A whole franchise page dedicated to YOUR franchise's stats.

Totally agree about relocation/stadium creator. Don't think it should be a priority at all, and a baseball stadium is WAY harder to "create" than a basketball arena.

Off-season presentation -- YES. Really just a calendar shuffle right now.

Like your list, but for me I think the heart of franchise has to be prospects, scouting, drafting, and PROSPECT progression. Can't stress the last one enough: prospects should progress on a different scale than MLB'ers. Sure, some should be busts, but an A prospect who's 18 and rated a 50 shouldn't take until he's 28 to develop enough, and that with massive holes in his toolset.

Don't think it's been mentioned yet, but a VERY simple thing MLBTS could add to Franchise next year is the real draft order with COMPENSATORY picks at the end of the first round and COMPETITIVE BALANCE picks after rounds 1 and 2. Even if it's just for the first draft, with every other draft keeping compensatory picks (like it currently does) but doing away with the CB picks if that's difficult to program in.

St. Louis not have a pick until the third round (Fowler signing, Cubs get C pick; hacking scandal, Houston gets CB pick after round 2 and round 2 pick) warms my heart.
