Ratings algorithm
The overalls make no sense to me. Guys can be 99 overalls without having an attribute over 80. Then you'll have guys with 2-3 attributes in the high 80s, that have like an 87 overall. I know attributes are weighted differently by position. Does anyone know exactly how?

Re: Ratings algorithm
Pretty sure it's based on the positional requirements. Like a CF needing speed, good glove decent arm.
3b needing arm, glove, pop
SS needing really good glove, arm and speed.
For the majority of players you can see how certain stats affect ratings, just swap them to a different position and see how the overall changes.
In all honesty I find the overall a little overrated.Comment

Re: Ratings algorithm
Change that Tony Gwynn for completing the team epic to a CF and he becomes a diamond. RF has power heavily factored into Overall.

Re: Ratings algorithm
my best advice is to ignore overalls. whatever it is youre trying to accomplish in a particular moment, you'd be bettter off looking at an individual attribute or two to gauge whether or not you can play the percentages.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: Ratings algorithm
Had this happen last night.
Moved (1990) Paul Molitor from 3B to 2B, went from 93 to 99, just for switching positions.

Couldn't agree more.
Learned that from Madden.
Just beacuse a FB is rated 99 doesn't mean he's going to play like Jim Brown or Barry Sanders.

Re: Ratings algorithm
I wish they'd just get rid of overall ratings in sports games. They're useless imo.

Re: Ratings algorithm
For the CPU I suspect overall rating plays a role in trade logic along with things like potential, age and contract status. It may also play a role in the amateur draft. Other than that I doubt it factors in decisions the CPU makes.
I use overall in my self imposed trade limitations. Multi player trades must include a player on the trading block and the player who isn't on the trading block can't be higher overall than the player on the trading block. Aside from that overall is an incomplete assessment of the player's abilities. Attributes tell the story.≡Comment
