Re: Drawing walks
Whats your CPU Pitching sliders at? I was using Armor's verbatim for awhile and was top 3 in walks, his setup is 4-5-3. I'm currently using 5-4-5 for the last 2 games and only drew 3 walks total but before that switch I had drawn 94 walks in 26 games (3.62 per) so it's definitely possible.Comment

Re: Drawing walks
You need to play on All Star or higher otherwise the computers strike percentage is too high to expect walks, especially considering your PCI is so large on lower difficulties that anything you swing at will be put in play. Personally, I'd recommend playing All Star and not swinging at anything until you have two strikes, that should get you a few walks per gameComment

Re: Drawing walks
I'm drawing more walks than ever in this game on default settings. I've had multiple games of 8+ BB's in some of my HOF games, and while I've rarely had trouble seeing at least 3-4 per game in past years outbursts like that have been very rare.Comment

Re: Drawing walks
Same. I've always been a swing at everything type of person, but this year my franchise team is third in the league in walks. No idea what it is this year but I'm finally drawing walks this year.Comment

Re: Drawing walks
biggest thing is to just bite the bullet and use contact swing with 2 strikes; checking your swing is easier than ever. drawing tons of walks this year, way more than ever before. it's great.Comment

Re: Drawing walks
Since I started playing baseball games(waaaay back in the day) I rarely drew walks. I swing at a lot of junk! However this year Im getting a lot more. Dont know if Im being more paitent or if the game is just throwing more balls my way.

Re: Drawing walks
I draw walks on Veteran with default sliders(DD mode), and depending on the pitcher I've had 4 walks in one game (vs CPU) on Veteran. I do not move PCI(because I suck) I look one specific place if I don't get it, I don't swing. Then with two strikes I'll protect the zone with contact swing only swinging at strikes. They'll get me on corners, sometimes they are called strikes sometimes they are balls. The CPU will walk you especially when tired and rattled, but you have to be patient. I usually hate playing long games, but only way to truly hit is to take a lot of pitches, if you swing early the pitcher will get you out, build confidence and then it's over. But make him work, tire him out rattle him and he'll start missing the zone bad, unless it's a pinpoint control pitcher. Higher levels are even betyer, but you got to have discipline. And Rookie hitting, forget iy, that's for pure slugfests.Comment

Re: Drawing walks
I play with hitting on rookie, veteran, and all star, switching it up as my frustration level changes. The problem is that on rookie, walks are very rare because pitches are strikes more often than not; on all star, walks can be very common -- pitchers throw more balls than strikes -- but if I take on 2 strikes and it's a FB for a strike, I'm dead. On all star I average about 4-5 walks, and there were many more there to be had, but I also average about 17 K's, which is unrealistic.
The pitch speed on all star, at least to my 42 year old eyes and hands, is just prohibitive, even with FB's in the low 90's. So I think what I'll do, as I haven't tried it yet, is to use all star difficulty but lower FB pitch speed and increase user timing window. That might be my sweet spot if it allows me a realistic chance to react to a FB thrown for a strike without using guess pitch.
I might test strike % by not swinging at all during a game, a few times with pitchers of various qualities, to see what the REAL strike % is on all star. If I do it, I'll post results.Comment

Re: Drawing walks
Some tips I have for drawings walks...
Get the starter's pitch count up. Especially the first time through the lineup don't be affraid to take pitches. You should be averaging 15 pitches per inning at the minimum. The more tired he gets the more erratic he gets. Walks become easier. And if he gets pulled early because of his count you will be facing the worst part of their bullpen. Again good for walks.
Never, ever, ever swing at the first pitch unless you have your 3 or 4 hitter at the plate and the pitch is literally grooved right down the middle. Be patient.
Find a camera that works for you to easily identify every part of the strike zone. High, low, inside, and outside. I prefer retro but that's just me. Find what works for you.
Use the contact swing with 2 strikes. When you have 2 strikes on you the goal is to protect the plate, not mash a homerun. When you use the contact swing on anything close to the corners you'll be amazed how many balls you will foul off. You'll stay alive a lot longer in the AB and that pitch count will continue to grow.
I really try and work the count even more with the bottom of my order. I don't swing at any ball until i have 2 strikes on me with my 8 and 9 hitters. Now, this isn't great for their averages but my 9 hole hitter leads my team in walks. He is still hitting above .250 too so it's not disastrous to his BA.
This might go without saying but try and focus on the ball immediately right from the pitcher's hand. You'll pick up the pitch type and location much easier if you focus right on the pitcher's release point.
Hope this helps!BOSTON BRUINS
