What if I didn't have any closers in any roster?

I find having the CP on a roster a stupid thing, I think they all should just be RP and you can put any of those in the designated 'closer role' anyway. and I think they only use it in the game to spoonfeed us and for the all star game voting. and player traits. because closers get paid more.

I take it though the game forces you to have at least 1 closer on your roster and not have it empty

but what if you were just playing the majors and your only closer was a A guy who won't play in any league.

how would the stats look like for this. and more importantly how would the voting work for the ALL star game?? how would the all star game pick a closer>? anyone tried this?

Well for all star voting it would be like the NBA were it's just guards and forwards no centers. So you would just vote for starting and relief pitching.

I usually do the opposite and edit certain relief pitchers so their closers. Andrew Miller was a RP which is ridiculous in the game. I think I'll even make Betances a closer as well, as he'll probably leave NY after this year to seek closing games(unless he has arb years left?).

You just named 2 guys that usually pitch 2 innings in a game... therefore they are not really 'closers' the closer in the game ONLY and I mean ONLY gets used in the 9th inning when their is a lead. that's the way the CPU uses them anyway.

in the world world if the score is 2 2 and home team always use their closer in the 9th even if it isn't a close situation. but the game will only use the closer in the 9th in save situations if you have that player on your depth chart

Putting Miller and Betances as a closer. would mean when the All star game comes they won't get the votes and won't make the all star teams by the logic of the game because they would go by saves. unless you have them in the 9th

The main reason I would move them to closer is if they go to another team they can actually close games. I'm not too worried about them getting AS votes rather than them being used properly in the game.
Those 2 are 2 of the best relievers and they aren't labeled "closers" because of the teams their on.

CP and RP is purely cosmetic as far as the player is concerned, but the CPU treats it as absolute.

However, removing the CP label will make them see reason.

I agree with the OP that having CP as a position is dumb. It seems the equivalent of having "Ace" as a position for elite starting pitchers.

I've often considered changing all closers to RP but I've been concerned with how it will impact franchise down the road (mainly drafting).

Anybody have any experience with this and is there any issues to be aware of?

Salary is lower for rp than cp is one issue I can think of. Another is you would have to edit every newly drafted cp or else they will get promoted quickly and pitch over a higher rated rp in future seasons.

I think the other issue is traits and the players Moral, he might not be happy about not being a Classed as a Closer.

It is fine to have a slot for closer on depth chart but I would scrap it all together as a actually position category which the game gives.

The OTHER tricky one is the LR, should you class those guys still as a Starting Pitcher or a RP?? because sometimes these guys make a spot start, and the fatigue stamina for SP and RP would effect what you have them listed as

[quote=TGov;2048831503] Andrew Miller was a RP which is ridiculous in the game. quote]

Andrew Miller is not a/the closer. Allen is. Miller comes in in the 7th or 8th innings usually. So therefore he is a RP not a/the closer. Now, I will agree that Miller is a closer pitcher, but currently he is a relief pitcher.

Just to add, that if (in my franchise) Miller doesn't return or goes to another team somehow, I will edit him to CL.

I was also thinking that the AI would draft CP above all else and constantly looking to trade for one to fill out their roster.

You don't really need a closer. If you do not sign one the AI will automatically set your highest rated reliever as a closer. The CPU controlled teams do this as well.
