Yeah I threw 5 in my game yesterday with 3 from Felix Hernandez specifically. I get not trying to bury pitches and trying to pitch carefully with runners on but it's impossible not to throw wild pitches with him at times due to his pitch repertoire. He throws a Sinker, 4-Seamer, Change, Sweeping Curve and a Slider and I've thrown a wild pitch on all of those minus the fastball. So if a runner gets on and I'm working for the strikeout I got no idea what to do as 3 of his 5 pitches have downward motion to them opening myself up to wild pitches and he's thrown them with his slider when they somehow end up in the opposite batters box. I can't throw nothing but fastballs so I have no choice but to chance it. On the season I've thrown 17 wild pitches with Felix in 85.1 IP, in other words roughly 1 every 5 IP which is ridiculously high.

Also what preview are you using when selecting pitches, if you don't have it set to show where the pitch is ending up and instead it is showing where the pitch starts that could be your problem.Last edited by Ripner; 05-28-2017, 01:12 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Patch 1.07 Available Now, Patch Notes Included
So far this year, there have been 537 WPs in 1460 games in MLB. That comes out to about 37%...which means statistically the average is about one WP every 3 games or so.
There have been 537 WPs against 55,721 batters so far. That comes out to 0.009%.
There are just too many WPs in the Show...they need to tighten up the catcher animations and/or apply the animations where the catcher blocks the ball and keeps it closer to himself so runner do not advance as well as tweaking the runner logic on balls in the dirt that get away from the runner.

A big question I have for people experiencing the issue is what type of pitching are you using? And if you aim higher or more in the zone is it still dropping way out or way away so that it bounces away in the dirt? I rarely have this problem using meter pitching. I just aim my curveballs barely out of the zone, and my sliders barely out of the zone and it's rare any go far enough to get away and be wild pitches.
Also what preview are you using when selecting pitches, if you don't have it set to show where the pitch is ending up and instead it is showing where the pitch starts that could be your problem.
Hopefully they fix it. I did actually have a runner thrown out at third last game trying to advance on a wild pitch which was nice but that was the first time I've seen that happen in at least 20 games. On the season I've thrown 95 WP's in 69 games (1.38 per) and I think I've thrown the runner out less then 5 times total in those 69 games.
EDIT - To add to this, I literally just aimed a belt high away slurve and it was a wild pitch in the dirt. I mean that pitch was so far off it's intended target that it was like I had Rick Ankiel on the mound. Then the catcher lollipops it down to third so of course no shot at throwing out the 68 speed runner since there is absolutely zero aggression when throwing off a wild pitch. I don't understand why the catchers cant gun it down there after a wild pitch like they can when someone is trying to steal, it's as if there is a servere difference in coding in each situation. So, sac fly later and they score when in reality it should have been an easy fly out leaving the runner at second followed by a walk and then a ground out to end the inning. In the end the CPU scored a run when it never should have and this is exactly why wild pitches drive me nuts.Last edited by The Chef; 05-28-2017, 11:58 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Patch 1.07 Available Now, Patch Notes Included
I use classic pitching and have for years. I don't aim out of the zone low very often and a lot of times, for instance I'll try and aim Felix Hernandez's sinker and curve close to the bottom of the strike zone and watch it bounce in front of the plate. The simple solution would be to aim higher but not everytime does he bounce it so if I aim higher then I'm prone to hanging something because I'm not aiming low enough. My issue isn't with the CPU throwing WP's as the CPU is throwing them at a clip of 0.40 per game in the month of June in my franchise but I'm throwing them 1.80 times per game in that same sample. That's just incredibly high, I can't count how many times I've given up a 2 out single, thrown a wild pitch to get the runner to second, give up another single to score the run then get the final out on the next batter. It's things like that that are inflating my ERA and driving me nuts. Or runners on first and second, wild pitch advances them then I get a ground ball that would have led to a double play and inning over and instead I get one out and give up a run.

I'm using those same sliders and other then wild pitches the game is playing perfectly so not gonna go changing slider sets just because of one issue. If I raise my own consistency I'm sure I'd have far fewer WP's but the CPU offense would probably decline as well so I'm stuck until the dev's decide to fix this either make them not skip away so easily or make the catchers actually throw down to the base with some velocity instead of what they do now.Comment

Has anyone noticed something wrong with your opponent's PCI on the hitter feedback screen online? I'm giving up some hard hit balls that are no where near my opponents PCI. They're either getting luck AF or I'm not getting the proper feedback.Originally posted by banned memberMy [RTTS] goals are to improve my bunting and drag bunting. The wild pitches wouldn't be bad if it was coded more to ball in dirt around plate/boxes = no runner advance. I don't have a issue with true wild pitches. I barely see them. Its balls in the dirt right in front of the plate or the batters box where a guy with 21 speed can safely make it to the next base that is my issue.

I think I would be fine if the catcher would fire the ball with heat and urgency.
By unfortunately we get a mitt tap and a lazy half power throw.
It is something that I think will bw improved on 18.
I can live with this. Because the game is excellent and we no longer have the crazy cheetah line reflexes from catchers. The pop time was stupid on previous iterations and killed immersion for me after several hundred games played lol.
This game is not perfect. I am still seeing OSD bugs......still.
I don't know if it is bugged commentary or the OSD but I got them talking about one division while they display another.
Really annoying. I just tune out Matty V when I hear and see the wrong standings....but still.
Other than that hell of a game this year just a blast to play.

Yes, the catlike jump ups really took away from the game last year. I'm ok with the jump this year. I haven't had very many issues like others have. Like I said, balls in front of the plate and they advance, just don't happen. I have (personally) had real amount of TRUE (ie: pitches to the back stop) wild pitches. With out the in front of the plate advances, I wouldn't even be talking about this.
Funny you mention the commentary. I've been really thinking of making it more on the field sound and bring out more sots to make a more immersion and either drowning out commentary all together, or making it quiet enough I can hear it barely.

You cannot tell where your opponent was placing the PCI in online play. If you get hit on the corners, they were most likely not aiming the PCI in the middle.Comment

I can only offer one suggestion to the guys who are throwing 3-4 WP's a game (and who may be trying to play without the pitch preview displays) - don't trust the controller vibration for aiming on anything other than a 4-seam fastball. It's supposed to vibrate when you aim near the edges of the zone, and for the fastball since the flight path is dead straight this is pretty accurate. But when you try to throw a curveball the flight path of the ball is different, and even though you aim down the middle at first the ball ends up way below it. So that throws off the vibration effect - if you aim low it won't really start vibrating until you're aiming down at the catcher's toes. Pretty obvious what will happen if you throw the pitch down there, right? By contrast, if you aim a curveball up (not that you'd want to do so intentionally) you'll get the full vibration right below the bottom of the catcher's mask, which is still fully in the strike zone - not on a corner. So the entire pitch aiming system gets shifted down when you throw a curveball.
Once I realized this my WP's started going way down - I still throw too many but they're at least on par with the CPU's now.
It definitely needs tweaking (particularly the slow catcher recovery and throw). But people shouldn't be throwing 3-4 WP's a game. There has be at least some user accountability for this, I think.Comment
