    MLB The Show 17 & My Issues @ Hitting...Help!

I'm seeing a lot of threads and posts with users having issues with hitting. So my idea is to use a common thread to identify the problems and subsequent solutions. If one person has issues, there's likely more so hopefully this type of thread can produce some benefits.

Saying "I hit 2 HRs a game and now cannot. This game is junk!" helps nobody, including yourself. Try to provide some circumstantial data surrounding your issues such as "I'm on All-Star hitting, default sliders and I only manage 5 hits a game, maybe 1 HR a game, if that." This type of feedback can allow those who HAVE a good experience hitting provide some alternatives.

That said..., I'm using default sliders and am on AS hitting. I wish I could walk more than I do but I'm not sure if I should move the strike frequency slider or just simply be more patient? Either way, I feel like there aren't enough doubles for my taste but I see plenty of HRs still. Any suggestions?

I didn't believe there was a bigger issue at hand, but the last 3 weeks or so, I've been hitting about .150-.180 in my rtts. I'm normally in the .280s.

Can't really say for sure if it's the patches affecting it in some way, or what. But I find myself hardly playing anymore. I don't expect to always be around .300 but an 85 overall player and batting .180, gets pretty boring

You should try Armor and Swords sliders in the slider forum.

Completely agree hitting is just off. No longer getting the great variety before patches and the power of the hits now feel much weaker regardless of nailing the spot at times

I agree with the previous posters. The original release was good except for the absurd distances of some of the home runs. The developers seem to have tried to correct the distances by nerfing power, which in essence has thrown off the entire hitting engine. I'm been tinkering with sliders for a month trying to get it right.

I've found the same to be true. The ball physics almost seem to have reverted in 16 some what...maybe it's placebo but it does feel different.

Has anyone found a sweet spot? I'll try A&S' sliders and see if that helps me.

For the first month of the season in my rtts I batted .240 as a 97 ovr guy. And .250 the following month. Now in September my average is .305. Focus on the experience imo more than the results.

All Star default sliders, default roster... and I got 21 hits in a game against Philadelphia using the Braves in 8 innings. I can say without a doubt, I am not having any issues on offense. I was though. But I realized the CPU was pounding the bottom half of the strike zone. So I moved the cursor to the bottom half of the strike zone. I found often when the CPU would "miss" it would be in the bottom half of the zone, and as I moved the cursor down, I had a tendency to hit grounders. Now that I start lower in the strike zone I can elevate pitches in the lower half especially breaking balls where as in the recent past I was either hitting ground balls or weak pop ups. In this game alone, I had 3 home runs. One came from Dansby facing a righty (33 PRW) and another two from Brandon Phillips, one from off a left where he has like a 28 PRW.

Re: MLB The Show 17 & My Issues @ Hitting...Help!

I'm really not understanding what people are seeing. If you're struggling, your sliders need to be adjusted. The game SHOULD force you to go into hot and cold streaks. Some days I play the game without enough care and ends in my starter getting shelled and my hitters missing everything. Other days I can get 8+ Ks and score 5+ runs. There's going to be ups and downs, and if you can't handle that, you're not playing the right game.

If you're not seeing these ups and downs, then it's simply your difficulty/sliders that need adjusting. If there are people (like myself) not experiencing your issues with lack of variety, then it can't be a game issue.

Just telling it like it is.

I'm also on All Star and I've been trying to get my Sliders to Default if possible. To get a little more offense I've got contact at 6 and rest of the hitting at Default. Pitching I have Control, Consistency, Strike Frequency all at 4. Getting good hit variety with this set up. My secret for walks is using either the Hybrid or OFSM with Mavs Pitch Edits. The lower control ratings make pitches outside the zone more obvious and easier to lay off.

It's all about patience. I'm 2-6 so far to start the season in my Phillies franchise. Last game I played was an 8-6 loss to the Mets. However, it was my best played game of the young season so far. I had 13 hits in the game and 10 of them were for extra bases. 7 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs. Patience is key. For the most part, I always take the first pitch of an at-bat and keep taking until I get a strike. I am averaging roughly 4 walks per game and I have walked multiple times in all 8 games so far. Swinging wildly gets you nowhere. Work counts and look for pitch movement. My opinion is it all starts with patience. Make those opposing pitchers throw a lot of pitches. Especially starters. Get their pitch confidence down as much as you can. You'll take your walks and also get that good pitch to hit as well.

Also, I hit on All-Star using Armor's slider set.

Is this mostly in franchise? I haven't seen it (as much) in RttS. My RttS started out hitting in the .140s for the first two weeks of the season but it eventually went back to his career avg.

I have recently switched to Legend hitting, with Contact on 10 and Power on 5. Timing and Foul Frequency are both at 1. I did this so I could start seeing realistic strikeout numbers, and I have been. Using Pure Analog hitting, I have to use a contact swing all the time just to foul one off or put the ball in play with two strikes. So far, I have not been able to put a solid offensive performance together on Legend, even with contact on 10. I have hit a couple home runs though.

Re: MLB The Show 17 & My Issues @ Hitting...Help!

I'm using directional hitting on All Star with A&S's sliders. My RTTS LF is in 3rd full season with the Dodgers, and I got on an absolute tear early on, batting well over 300 and hitting 12 homers by the time I got my first ASG call up (I know 12 isn't huge, but I started out more of a contact and base stealing type and adding power more recently, and for a Brit still getting to grips with hitting, I think was well chuffed).

I was quietly hoping for a shot at the batting title, but the wheels came out the bus almost immediately and I went from regular 5+ game hit streaks to being lucky to get one a week. I think I was down around 270 by the end of the season. So, three questions:

                            1. I know baseball is a game of hot and cold streaks, but how do you snap a cold streak? I seem to regularly get good timing on strikes in the middle of the zone, but I either line it straight to a fielder or pop it up.

                            2. What should I be swinging at? I'm pretty good at laying off balls, and I tend to ignore stuff on the black or try and foul it with bad timing or contact swing as I generally don't get good results when I try to hit that stuff. But I sometimes have trouble picking up that a pitch is right down the middle. At what point between the edge and the middle do you say that's a good pitch to hit?

                            3. Do hot and cold zones have any actual effect or is it just a record of recent performance (I have noticed them change a bit throughout the season) For example my hot zones are all low to middle and away, do I get a bonus when swinging on pitches there? Do I get nerfed swinging at pitches high and in (my cold zone).

I'm really enjoying the game and it's a great introduction to a sport that I haven't followed as intensely as I'd like over the past several years. But this recent slump has had an effect on my enthusiasm to play.

Try my current sliders in the vault. You have foul frequency too low. With foul frequency at 1, all the poor contact you make that normally would be foul balls are staying fair and resulting in easy outs. Raise foul frequency to 5 and raise pitch speed. The higher pitch speed will create more strikeouts.
