17 worthwhile?
I'm content playing 16 right now, but I'm thinking of buying 17. Is it worth it?

Re: 17 worthwhile?
if your content for now, may as well wait for the next price drop, unless you can get it used at gamestop for under $30.
my biggest incentive for playing 17 at this moment is to try and unseat the defending champion Cubs and and take the Dodgers and Cody Bellinger down a peg. but I'm still getting games in on 16 also.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

CPU AI just kills the enjoyment in this game especially decision making like very bad base running and bullpen management decisions
Just kidding about the first partlol if you love baseball then even with the frustrating CPU AI it's still worth a buy.
If and when Sony finally makes "huge" improvements to CPU AI especially when it comes to base running and bullpen management decisions it will be a MUST BUY for sure in my opinion!Last edited by tnixen; 08-20-2017, 01:26 PM.Comment

Re: 17 worthwhile?
I would stick with 16 if you are enjoying it.
Too many issues still with 17 for me. Bunting still doesnt work. Last series I played after the 11th patch, the Mets subbed in Flores to Catch even though D'Arnuad was sitting on the bench. This resulted in 6 passed balls. Then the next game they bunted the bases loaded and ran 3 squeeze plays in a row to win the game. Wont even go into bullpen issues or every teams carrying 3 Catchers on every roster. Then if you want to play spring training you constantly have to re select some pitchers over and over again to get them to do anything. Yes you can avoid some of this with 30 Team control but that is not the way I want to play the game and don't believe we should be forced to so the game will work.
Plus side. It does look amazing in 4k on the Pro. New ball physics are really nice and a lot of new wonderful animations. Commentary is great and I like that they talk about past stats as well as objects around the park as the game plays out. Gameplay itself is smooth and entertaining. I don't play DD and I am not enjoying the changes they made to RTTS but all in all in that aspect it is pretty good. Even the minor league parks got some love and look really nice.
All in all I just think, for me, that 16 is a smoother and more entertaining experience. It just feels more balanced and organic. I feel like 16 is the crowning game of the last iterations of MLB The Show and 17 is the next step in a new evolution of the game. For some it is wonderful and complete game and for others not so much. But this is the direction it is going in the future.
PS:
I really don't like the new budget system either, but that is really just a personal gripe because it works just fine the way the designed it. Just dont like it.

Re: 17 worthwhile?
17 has it's fair share of things that people on here continue to gripe about, but for sheer entertainment and value, I'll take it over 16 every day of the week (Many seem to forget that 16 also had it's fair share of issues).
Crack open a beer, find yourself a good set of sliders and a solid roster, turn on 30 team control, fire up franchise mode and let 'er rip my friend!2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment

Re: 17 worthwhile?
New ball physics and Quick Manage (for my minor leagues) are the two biggest features for me, as an offline only franchise only who's playing every pitch of every AB from a 2014 carry over.
It's hard to be objective about 17, but I do think you are getting to a point now where you are better off waiting for a price drop.Comment

Re: 17 worthwhile?
I'm playing '16 personally, but '17 is a very good game. It just has a few hiccups that really bother me, and some are just cosmetic (standings being wrong during in-game popups, showing batter's hitting handedness instead of position) while other things, gameplay wise, distance me from getting immerse into the game.
'17 is a very good game, and to be honest, if for some reason I didn't have '16, I could play '17 and find enjoyment. But since I have the option of going back, '16 provides me the better overall experience than '17 does.
Oh and as Bullitt mentioned, I'm not a fan of the new budget system. Just too cumbersome to manage imo.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: 17 worthwhile?
17 is good but 16 is better, 17 is the beginning of a new era and it will takes time to be Great. Just too many issues right now, But I got it and play it every day. Lst game the Pirates subsituted Moroff as a catcher in a 1-1 tie in the 13th innings and 8 pass balls later I had a 3-1 lead and won the game. Also in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs Freese hit a double and turn it into a home run, cutoff man did not have anyone covering home plate. The Next time the catcher thing happens I am going to changed Control to that team and sub a catcher in.Last edited by Thomas7; 08-23-2017, 01:37 PM.Comment

Re: 17 worthwhile?
I might only get 17 just to move my franchise forward.

Re: 17 worthwhile?
I think 17 is an upgrade on 16, but like any game, there are certainly things that are a frustration. It's the best baseball game I have ever seen/played. If you play DD, there is a ton of content to play, even if you play vs cpu. I've only been playing DD vs CPU and I'm still nowhere close to be complete even though I got the game the day it came out. For franchise and RTTS, you'd need to pick up '17 if you want to continue onto '18.Comment
