    Re: PS4 PRO question

I traded my launch PS4 and a bunch of games and paid zero out of pocket for a PS4 Pro. Now, if March 23rd would hurry up and get here, I would be in business.

I traded in my OG PS4 for a Pro when the Pro first came out. Now that the Pro has been out for a while, are the newer models still loud as heck? The fan on my Pro can get very loud sometimes, depending on what game I'm playing I suppose.

Yah. Mine is about 2 weeks old and the fan on it is louder than my OG PS4.

Are there any recommended setting changes on the Pro, TV or game itself that will help without screwing with the color balance? Or am I just expecting too much improvement from the Pro with HDR?
The HDR capabilities of your TV will make a big difference. They are not all the same. I have a lower-to-mid range TV that puts out about 400 nits, but higher-end ones put out around 1000 or more. That basically is the measurement of the contrast between the brightest whites and darkest blacks. The bigger higher the contrast between them, the more natural the picture looks, the better the colors appear. I wouldn't say HDR fixes the uniform colors, those are inherent to the game itself. But I think in general all colors seem to look more natural and vivid which helps a lot. Reds are definitely redder, but not where they need to be. But overall I've noticed much better colors over non-HDR displays.

just bought the wife her new Xbox one X so i is my turn. saving up for the pro as we speak. I will have it about five weeks from now. wait... I have two games I could trade in... and two controllers. I could get it today... just re-DL 17 from the store since it is already purchased... I will have to call them and see how much all that is worth and if the deal is still going.

it is either that or I wait until the opening weekend of the actual baseball season to get this done... hard to do when your working though.. decisions, decisions...

well just looked at the GS site and no indication of any deals going on for trade in of systems other than Xbox. So looks like I will be waiting which is fine.

I will later this year be getting two TCL 55" either P or 6 series TVs for both me and the wife for those of you that do a lot of online gaming... latency is only 15 MPS lowest of all brands... I can save about $400 a month so I should have both TVs by late July or early August...

                    Re: PS4 PRO question

Just got taxes done last week. getting enough back to get two 55" TCL P series TVs for me and the wife. she is currently gaming on a 55" Vizio that I got her two years ago at Christmas. The TCL 55" P series has 72 direct-lit zones. this is not an edge lit tv which I heard were absolute crap...

I am currently gaming on a 32" Insignia tv that is a bit older than hers purchase-wise. Yes, i talked her into it... she is an online gamer so it wasn't that hard. the .15 amps input lag was a huge thing with her as I just got her the Xbox one X.

So a bit of time after the game comes out I will be gaming on the BEST overall budget tv you can get on the market period.

                      Re: PS4 PRO question

Wanted to give this a bump because the firmware with the supersampling option is out (and because it was discussed earlier in this thread). This option does one very important thing for anyone with a less-than-4k TV - it enables the other two video options besides High Frame Rate mode, and there are clear differences between all 3.

On High Frame Mode with the supersampling on I don't really notice much difference from what it was previously - I'm guessing that the way it achieves that framerate is to disable supersampling. For the other two options, you're going to have a decision to make. Enhanced Visuals is playable to me in most stadiums, does clearly look better than High Frame Rate (you will see fewer "jaggies"), but will suffer some pretty severe framerate drops in "cutscenes" by which I mean off-play stuff. RTTS might be difficult too at times as being able to see the whole field at once puts extra strain on the system and can sometimes induce a low framerate. Finally, as I said...it varies by stadium. Turning on Enhanced Visuals and going to closed-roof Skydome brought back my PTSD from '16 of lowered framerate while batting (perhaps not AS bad as 16, but still there). Kauffman appears to run at 60 or close to even with the EV setting. It's just going to be trial and error in finding a setting to use in a specific stadium - but you can change the video options right in the middle of the game and they will take effect right away, so it's easy to play around with.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention 4K. Just....don't use it. Even if you can't notice the frame drop in EV at times I GUARANTEE you will if use the 4K option. If that's what the true 4K folks were dealing with this past year....you have my sympathies.

If you don't want to worry about all of that, just leave it on High Frame Rate and enjoy the game! So far I haven't noticed the supersampling option really causing a performance hit in that mode (though it does in other games).

The Supersampling option is a system-level option in the Settings/Sound And Screen/Video Output Settings menu. Unlike the Show's in-game options, you will have to exit out of a game if you change the system-level option on or off.

Has there been any discussion from the devs about frame rates this year and options graphical options? Hope they can figure out 4K like Fifa 18 did

Anyone tried the new supersampling option that came with the 5.50 Playstation firmware update? This option might get rid of the few jagged lines that are still showing in some ballparks.

I'm not sure if this is what your referring to but I remember the devs saying the same graphics options from last year are in. E.g. high framerate, 4k, resolution.
