Who else saw that ^5 inning for the Dodgers-Giants game and breathed a huge sigh of relief when you didn't hear any commentary with the words "bit of a lull in the middle innings"?Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Presentation & Commentary
Genuinely enjoyed this stream.
I thought the conversations between Dero and Plesac were good. The only thing that worries me is that these convos will be too long and take 1-3 pitches to listen to in its entirety.
Yes, Plesac says "Hey Dero.." almost everytime but after listening to Plesac on MLB Tonight for years he does this in real life a lot. He always says the guy who asked the question or the guy sitting next to him, just a trait he has. And a lot of broadcast teams do as well, (Mets Booth, Keith always says "And Ronny,...."). It's a way Broadcast teams show respect, like "Hey dero I know you have something to say, but I'm going to say my piece but then I want you to say what you're thinking." It's a good chemistry thing.
All those camera cuts look beautiful. Blimp shots, "drone" shots. The camera behind the glass window in Cleveland was awesome.
Full Speed Replays are something I've been asking for for years. Happy they were finally able to implement them.
Crowd reaction is also a key improvement that is getting overlooked. Go back in 17 and play a game, you'll notice the crowd is way too hyped up for random moments throughout the game. And then when something good happens, it's not as noticeable because they've been standing for every strike. It adds a ton to realism.
Kirby also mentioned they will now vary the camera cuts during a HR sequence. Instead of, every home run being the exact same "Batter touching first, manager clapping, runner touching 2nd, pitcher getting new ball, batter rounding 3rd, stadium shot, batter touching home" sequence. That's huge.
The only, and I mean only drawback from the stream was the HR Cam. It is such an eyesore during a Live Real Life Broadcast, you would never see a camera aiming at the back of the batter as he flips the bat and watches the ball fly.
I get it, they added a lot of bat flips to the game and it appeals to a large population of gamers out there. These camera put a focus on this epic bat flips.
However, for those who want to "watch" a real life broadcast, this camera is ridiculous. It would be a great Replay camera, I love bat flips, but I'd see them in a replay after seeing the ball land, the HR sequence and running the bases.Comment

I really like the new camera shots.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Presentation & Commentary
My notes on today's stream...spoiler for length.
Spoiler
*DeRosa and Plesac sound a little too much alike, imo. I was never confused about who was speaking as was the case with Lyons/Karros, but I wish they sounded a bit more different. Dan Plesac always saying "DeRo" to punctuate his sentences is gonna get annoying. Fast.
*Why were they setting up "what a treat this pitching matchup will be" in the 2nd inning? Did they not mention Kershaw vs Bumgarner in the 1st? Same thing happened in the Texas-Houston game where they gave you a "preview" of the pitching matchup in the top of the 2nd inning instead of in the 1st inning.
*The new variety of establishing shots for different ballparks is a good addition. The panning shot at Minute Maid at 1:29:53 is just fire. A beautiful shot.
*Raindrop variety and dynamic fog looks good as hell.
*Crowd reactions seem more organic. The "animation database was doubled," whatever that means.
*They finished tagging locations in all 30 MLB stadiums (for HR calls and such).
*I like how the bases on the scorebug light up on a HR.
*OSD's continue to look better and better. Enjoyed when they highlighted Adrian Beltre's splits at the 1:20:55 mark. Was nice to see them display Houston's infield shift with the player names like a real broadcast would.
*Emotions might be a tad overdone when Kershaw is celebrating strike one or when the catcher is giving props for throwing strike one in the 5th inning.
*Interesting to me that they re-recorded the "base layer" of the crowd sounds by recording 8 new baseball games, including a wild card game from last year. Presumably the wild card game sounds can be used in higher tension scenarios (playoff games). Would be nice to differentiate it.
*Having a major league caliber player dropping "like 98%" of the chances while out of position is a bit ridiculous. Didn't like the Ted Williams at 1B part of this stream. Shifting an OF to 1B is not really that big of a deal...It seems like a major overreaction on their part to combat cheesers in DD/online. I hope they tweak the out-of-position logic to not be so over-the-top horrible.Last edited by WaitTilNextYear; 02-22-2018, 10:27 PM.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

This should have been the little things stream. Amazing amount of detail.
Kirby can drain the **** out of the word “dynamic”... weather, crowds, crowd noise...etc.
And the FOG! Wow... looked incredible.Comment

Glad they addressed the question of how dynamic the rain effects are - sounds like there are no guarantees of what will happen once it starts falling. Even if it was just falling "lines" last year like they said I thought it was a really good effect, and the difference between light and heavy rain will be very noticeable.
I like that the generic presentation packages are gaining more of their own identity with new theme music and updated visuals.
The storylines thing sounds interesting, hopefully there will be enough content to keep them from repeating too often. I'm all for anything that helps keep the franchise experience fresh and new.
No opinion on DeRosa yet, and I probably won't have one until the game launches. Commentary's one of those things that I can't really judge until I'm playing the game for myself.
I believe they said this was from a regular PS4 (not Pro) today, and I definitely saw some frame drops when the action moved to the fielding cameras. Just something to keep an eye on.Comment
