Trust me, no one thinks the commentary needs an overhaul more than I do, but it's not as much the people as it is the structure of it. That being said, sometimes new voices that come in just freshen things up anyway, i.e. changing them just for the sake of changing them. I like Matt as a personality for MLB Network and what he does in the booth, but he doesn't necessarily reflect that in this game. It would just take way too much to change him though, at least for now.

    Also...

    Two words:

    Enter. Enter.

Sorry I am new here lol. Also I wasn't saying just change the commentators. I am saying get the commentary up to par with NBA 2k and the old MLB 2k game.

I am not just saying change the commentators. Matt is bland. He has to go or unless they get all 3 commentators in the booth and upgrade the commentary like NBA 2k. That's all I am saying.

Also yes I never purchase games same day it releases that's crazy. Companies now send consumers half finished games till the patched cone out. Which I think is crazy.

    Cheers

This would be true if some of those so called ball physics weren't so unrealistic (i.e. Rocket bunts, home runs going foul by one inch regularly, ball curve being completely overdone, etc.).

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Presentation & Commentary

I am not holding back on this Matty V still sounds absolutely terrible in MLB The Show 18!

He and he alone is what is killing the commentary in MLB The Show. In MLB The Show he sounds nothing I mean NOTHING like he does when broadcasting real life baseball games. After all these years Matty V still sounds like a stale boring robot! He is so boring and stale and absolutely not organic and Live sounding at all! There are so many issues with him I can not name them all. However one thing I still noticed in the stream that gets very annoying is too many times Matty V refers to players as "He" instead of saying the players name. There are so many things wrong with the commentary but one thing that could go a long way in making it sound much better is if all the commentators especially Matty V would say the players name most of the time instead of just saying "He". The new and old color Commentary guys while definitely not perfect have never really been a big issue for me.

I have seen a few people on here say commentary in sports games in general will never be good and that is just not true! NBA2K Basketball and their older Baseball games have very realistic sounding commentary. No even those games are not perfect but I have never played those games and thought to myself that the commentary does not sound like real life. I don't know what's in the water over at 2K but man they sure know what they are doing when it comes to audio!

The SDS Presentation & Commentary developers really seem like nice guys so I really hate criticizing they work. But the fact of the matter is we have been dealing with the same below average commentary for over 10 years now. And it just really bugs me because almost everything else gets improved year after year. I will say one thing although a lot more new stat overlays need be added the Presentation & Commentary developers have done a fantastic job in improving the visual aspect of the Presentation in 18.

Bottom line video game Matty V just makes me sad. And knowing that we are stuck with him makes it even worse!

Hopefully the saving grace will be much improved stadium crowd atmosphere in 18 so that way it will still sound good when I mute the commentary.

My Ultimate Fantasy for MLB The Show would be if SDS could some how break into 2K Studios and steal their commentary and put it into the game. What a match made in heaven that would be lol

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Presentation & Commentary

I've bought MLB The Show every year since 2012. Every year it is the same thing. Every year I look for reasons not to buy the game (I certainly skip years in the NHL, NFL, NBA and FIFA games). But every year SDS makes some sort of change that makes me buy their game and so far I have not regretted a purchase. This year is no different. I went into 2018 saying to myself "I will not buy the game this year". I always get into the Dog Days of Summer and can never finish my season, etc, etc, etc.

But this year the changes SDS have made to the game make it another "must buy for me" were the improvements to the fielding animations especially the improvements to catcher handling passed balls and new improved tagging animations where the fielders are actually aware of where the base runners are. I can still have tons of fun playing MLB The Show 17, but when I see how they have improved the fielding, it drives me crazy in 17 when free bases are given up because of a ball in the dirt at the catchers feet. This has nothing to do with presentation and commentary, so to stay on topic only time will tell as to how I will feel about the changed commentary. It can definitely be better, but it's not a show stopper for me. So the other presentation change I am curious to see is how the crowd attendance will react in blow out games and/or games late in the season for non-contenders. Clearly not a show stopper, but anything that brings the game a little closer to how the real world works is good to me.

But this is just my opinion. I really hate the guys at SDS. I do. Every year I want to skip a year and not give them my hard earned $$$. But every year they have made some sort of change that I want.

I have bought the show since '13, and I don't regret each purchase one bit. I play this game year around. I usually take a break here and there, but always come back. There definitely things I dislike about the game each year, but I can deal with the warts.

Now, I also buy Madden every year and play it about a month. Then It's usually a dust collector.

Sorry for getting off topic, but different strokes for different folks.

What about not announcing the starters names before the games . This effects the presentation to. Also. They better have fixed the catching throwing the ball back to the pitcher in real time and not have swipes or whatever you call it. That bothers me alot.

I'm a big fan of Matt Vasgersian...in real life. He's an awesome play-by-play guy and it's a joy to listen to him call games, especially playoff games.

Unfortunately, in The Show, his performance is NOTHING like how he is in real life. Maybe he's just a terrible voice actor, or maybe the people directing him are having him act mellow. Whatever it is, it's not working. It just isn't.

I don't want him replaced. I want him to give a better performance and sound like he does on TV.

It's true regardless. It was a nice upgrade from what we had.

Sure it's a work in progress but I'm sorry I'm never going down the path of
"misery and despair" over a video game especially coming from stick men baseball with all balls being arrow straight.

We all want things to keep getting better but the whole "Sim" (And I'm as sim as they come) attitude with many has went way over the rainbow.

If this game was 100% sim no one on this site would play more than 3 games after going 0-12 with 12 K's..

It's become that laughable here with the complaints or SIM and Realism..

There's got to be a balance with realism and a Game that's fun for EVERYONE....

I'm tired and on a stretch at work but man I come here to "talk" VIDEO GAME baseball and seeing the constant whining/ complaining over and over is really sad.

Well lets not forget that his lines are from decades ago. Other than adding minimal changes or as they like to call it "updates", for the most part his work is unchanged. If they re record his lines, i'm confident he will sound way better.

That is a very good point as well. That is a huge undertaking to re-record everything, investment wise and time. Not saying it will never happen, but I can see the situation that they are trying to get the banter (stories, etc.) back and forth with the color guys first locked in with their new recording system of having them in the same booth, then maybe tackle that down the road.

It is immersion-killing. Especially when you see two Ramones in there holding up signs supporting the Yankees! I don't mind it too much, just wish it would show up less often.

yes and why are all those devs in the crowd, I don't mind to have them there in fact but rather like less than 1 of 100 not 1 in 10 or more.
thing is I can recognize those faces and seeing them all over again kind of also points me at the lack of crowd models lol.
personally I feel in that kind of serious simulation like the show wants to be is not as much space for, let's call them, easter eggs. an acarde game might be a different story, but this is getting old as well. grow up guys lol
