Re: No online franchise in 18

Bottom line is that they took a ton of preorders. Most probably digital, and that isn’t refundable.

He doesn’t know for sure they tried to fit it in. Seems to me they ripped a lot of folks off looking forward to even the same version from last season

I also think they under estimated the amount of people that are going to be unhappy about this, and whether or not they did this all on purpose, it looks really bad in them.

    I’m glad I didn’t preorder.

people have to realize these modes are not that Popular anymore. GM Connected for the NHL series was cut years ago as well, and the game is probably more popular than ever.

IF Online Franchise was more popular than people here think it was, im sure they would have kept it in one way or another. but when only for example 5000 people play it compared to the 100 thousands(these are just example numbers) that play the other modes, why keep a struggling to stay a float mode in the game when they can focus on modes that will bring in more people.

Re: No online franchise in 18

Some of you guys are silly trying to justify this. I realize OF was a a small % of players but they have given us a half a$$ version for yrs, refused to ever address anything that we were clamoring for but left the mode in? Why wasn't this done yrs ago? I assume so they could continue to squeeze $ out of us schmucks that kept playing. They had ample time to fix this but just flat refused. I held this team in high regard but just don't believe them at this pt, sorry but that's what I believe. I'm so glad everyone got Babe Ruth in the the gm though. I even heard Ozzie Smith does a backflip so that's cool. I played OF with a good group of guys and now I can't and they expect me to wait a yr when this could have been done yrs ago? Nope. They just lost a loyal customer in me because of this decision.

Online has never worked right in the show. Always laggy as hell which leads to unplayable games. Im not sure why anyone is surprised. The only major improvement this game has ever had is the ball physics from 17 that they patched out. Are they touting that they actually got it right this year? New blood at SDS or another company making a game to compete with them will be the only way we see the steps forward we should have seen 4-5 years ago.

This......I'm glad it's not in this year if they rework it into something good in 2019.

Does anyone really think it'll be back? Everyone says that it's not as popular as the money grab is, so why should they?

EDIT: And where does it say that it will return?

To all those saying that the reason it is out is because it didn't have enough people playing it, so they put it on the back burner this year is ridiculous.

The only reason the mode wasn't touched by many is because the servers are so bad. If they would have improved it it would have been touched by a lot more players.

Even madden can get online franchise right.

Add in injuries didn't work. There was no stamina so players would play 162 games. Team budget issues. Progression was still based off the system 4 years ago. So 5 seasons in everyone threw 99+, we had to keep check on CPU pitchers because sometimes they would just pitch every game leading to us having to reset alot of games, etc. Many more I could list.

                    "Online needs reworked!!! It's crap"

SCEA seems to be doing that by going all in on a rebuild.. and yet... the Mob still shows up.

For what it's worth all my friends that get the game every year never play online and I haven't in 2-3 years. Much prefer the offline experience.

I hope it comes back soon for those that want it however.

Hard to say at this point, nothing is guaranteed. As far as it not being popular, I dont know how they could gauge if they are not playing because of lack of interest or because it does not work properly.

Serious question though, if there was a competitive product available now that had online leagues do you think they still would have cut the mode out completely or offered something transitional to keep the user base?

Yep.. I've seen EA say the same thing... "Only 15% of people used the feature" and ignore the fact if it was better more would. I hate when Devs use that argument.
                        As far as the question:
                        I don't really know personally.
I mean SCEA had plenty of competition earlier and they are the ones left standing. Games that have been gone a while that I loved playing and did certain things better (ASBB, MVP etc)
I have no idea what really caused the demise of certain games so hard to say what would be "if"..
                        At least for me.

Personally I'd still go with the game that had the best gameplay even if it had the worse online.

Not likely. Didnt effect it at all, this was a move to improve online stability and the servers. Online franchise has gone untouched since MLB14. No time has been taken from Online that could have went into the offline portion.

The biggest issue for me is that online leagues are one of the only places you can find consistent, as close as possible to a sim game as you can find. Online play can be fun but in ranked modes where people value winning over the experience, it's gets very frustrating. That's why I've joined leagues for every sports game I buy and have mostly left the ranked play alone.

In leagues you can have rules and it's just a much nicer experience so that's what most of us are losing. It's not fun to play the CPU over and over and playing people who use exploits or want a 99 overall team everywhere just takes away from the enjoyment. If you're gonna spend the little free time you got on playing a game, it's nice knowing you can count on playing someone doing it for the same reason as you instead of a coin flip
