We'll see how it plays out in the stream, but last year after playing '17 and then playing OOTP, I told myself I wouldn't be buying MLB The Show this year if they didn't add some atleast a few features to being a GM. Like I said, we'll see what the stream shows, but if it's just "streamlined" then I'm skipping this year.

Not crying wolf yet until we see the stream.

See we will still need 30 team control to have anything remotely close to a true franchise experience

That's a bummer, to say the least. Hoping, like the rest of you, for some more info in today's stream. Phases is essentially just "sim to date" and it's not like the sim engine in MLB is slow (like it is in NHL).

I'm not demanding any major changes be made year to year. But so many little things that have to be fixed. Improving the budget system, the morale system (it's terrible, at least let us turn it off), trade logic. Re-do scouting, put a new twist on that. Something that's refreshing and not just streamlined and has no appeal to the franchise-only players (like me).

          Just a couple of points.

          1. Casual Players as you or I might describe them are the vast majority of the games sales.

          2. You are essentially insulting casual players and younger kids by saying it is being "dumbed" down for them. Casual players are not necessarily dumber. It could be just that they have limited time for any number of reasons. And there are some young gamers who play far more involved games. They don't all have short attention spans.

Bottom line, franchise/career/dynasty modes should be immersive by having the league realistically change over the years. NBA 2K does an outstanding job with this. Madden at least makes an attempt, feeble as it may be. Even NHL does a competent job. The Show doesn’t even try, and it’s insulting. I get it, SDS does not have the resources of those dev teams, but the lack of innovation year after year is astonishing.
As someone who plays a lot of 2K, one of the biggest and most popular things they did is adding relocation/expansion/jersey creator. Young kids LOVE to make jerseys, adults love to create jerseys and have the ability to bring back an old team or move a current team and start over in a new city. The Show seems like they will never allow this- every thought they literally have the technology for it in DD. Not adding it to Franchise mode is pure laziness.

I stuck with 16 and plan on getting 18. Did you prefer the new way they did the Budgets? I know there is a few threads on this but it seems complicated lol

I haven't had 1 issue with the new budget. Just keep it simple and don't try to over analyze it. I've done 5 or 6 end of seasons and have always had 949K-1.3M in the end. I think the new budget is really easy.

I know I am in the minority but I think overall franchise mode is solid. Yes I wish there was more depth/stats/financials etc. But I would rather have solid game play and all the little annoying crap fixed. They have said they fixed the outfield jogging to the ball, passed balls, catcher animations, tiered fielding animations, tuned hitting. They even touched up stadiums (yes I play my minor league games too) Im good, franchise should be tight this year.

If they can fix AI roster management, bullpen logic etc. I will be even happier. But I am actually happy that things did not get stripped down or play accelerated nonsense added in. So I will watch the stream tonight when I get home and NOW I will most likely pre order.

I love playing every game of my franchise mode and heck no I don't finish multiple seasons. But now since I know I can't go 162-0, I will critical situations more this year. Probably won't start until 1st or 2 SDS roster update. Try something different with my franchise play....
I was expecting something new. It's also frustrating they wait until last, every year to show off franchise and they added basically nothing new in terms of the franchise/gm aspect.

They highlighted how to play a game, which was in last year. They highlighted playing in retro mode. Something I know most players won't do. And they added a fancy new screen telling us what to do, and the what to do's aren't anything new.

How can any franchise player be excited about this blog?

Pretty much my exact feelings and opinions about franchise in TS. It is the only single player franchise mode that I put a ton of time into and I don't think its lacking a ton. Sure there are things I would like added, but its a solid franchise mode IMO.

Welp, that was underwhelming. I hope that the stream will give us some more additions and improvements to Franchise, because if all they basically did was streamline things, then that's pretty disappointing.

I thought I'd be more upset/disappointed, but I guess I expected this with all the focus going towards DD the last few years.

I don't blame the developers, either. I'm sure they have their marching orders on what aspects to concentrate on and where to allocate manpower. I just wish whoever was in charge would realize that Franchise may not be the most popular mode and it may not bring in microtransaction money, it's the mode the die-hard, core group of The Show fans play most. And I don't need any data or "games played" stats to convince me of that. So if the DD fad dies out, and most fads eventually do die out, who is left? The die-hard, core group of players that have been playing this series from before it was even called The Show.

Doesn't make any sense to me to try and make Franchise mode more appealing to the short attention span/no time/casual crowd, as they already have all the other game modes. Why would you aim all your modes at the same demographic, at the expense of the other people? It's like finding out that chocolate is the most popular ice cream flavour, so making all your other flavours taste more like chocolate.

So you know 100% for a fact they added nothing else new? You must have seen the stream in the future.

Don't have to be excited for the blog but at least see what the stream has to offer first. Or don't. Your choice.
