Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

Drafted 24th round, 6th pick by the Mets, RF, #9. I just started last night, so I am in AA with the Rumble Ponies!

Only played 4 games so far. Team is 3-1 and I've started off pretty hot with quite a few doubles. No errors in the field yet. This sounds crazy, but, I really like my minor league stadium. For whatever reason, I attribute my hot start to being able to see the ball really well in our home stadium. I'm curious if I'll feel the same at AAA and the MLB level.

I wouldn't know about AAA, they promoted me straight from AA to MLB level at 63 OVR.

          My issues:

          1. I'm a 3B for the Orioles, overall is 62 and here were my AA stats:

          - .383 avg, 10 HR's, 293 plate appearances, a 3B fielding % of .983, a .378 avg wit RISP, ISO is .200 and an POP (OBP+SLG+Batting Avg) of 1.312!

But yet, not promoted. I checked the roster of AA, AAA, and MLB.

My position at AAA the guy is rated also 62 and when I tried to check his stats, I can't because the game doesn't track Minor League stats. Woops forgot about that.

          2. So Manny Machado is rated 86 OVR and playing SS, but there's also Freddy Galvis who is rated 82 OVR whom is also playing SS, but there's a 63 rated OVR guy at 3B???????

          Why?

          3. I finally got promoted as a 63 OVR straight from AA to MLB (for some odd reason) and in my first 5 games, I went 1 for 20. That's right folks. ONE FOR TWENTY. I'm not ready for MLB level, I'm good for AAA level.

So instead of the game letting me PROGRESS as an 18 year old to AAA and up the ladder, they bumped me into the Majors which a sure fire way of giving me a serious bump in my career, if not ruining my potential...just like it would in real life. It also took them a pretty long time to promote. My stats were off the charts after 300+ plate appearances which is more than enough time to decipher a prospect.

So I'm basically a 62 OVR 3rd baseman who is playing AT 3B while there are two Shortstops playing....Machado and Galvis who BOTH can play 3B.

There are serious problems with this mode. I think I'm done guys. I gave it a serious try.

I won't even get into the issues that come up with the AI wanting you to switch positions and how it can mess up your archetype by doing this. We'll talk about that later, or others can bring it up.
Everytime I create a player the position gets changed or I get bumped to DH. One player was a RF, position changed to 1st baseman where I was made 3rd string, but allowed to DH.

The coach told me it was my quickest route to the majors. Huh? I'm third string? If he's talking about being a DH, he's drunk. The Giants don't have a DH, lol.

Every player gets their position changed, they tell you if the same archetype is used, it could hurt your development, etc etc. I don't anybody at the studio played this game beyond the first 3 weeks in the game mode. The wheels start to fall off around the 30 day mark for me.

I have also not heard or read one word about fixes coming, or acknowledgement that the mode is broken. I honestly feel tricked into buying the game. They had to know it was broken, didn't say anything......,I don't know. I'm getting to annoyed even thinking about; done

Once you have two arch types the max caps will be combined between the two probably averaged out and you can have a high contact high speed guy. They specifically said this in the show stream two or three Thursdays again. Now Ichiro & Dee Gordon weren't built in one year while they did have speed and someone contacts Ichiro is an anomalyPraying that I can move back out to right field I cannot stand first base

Just to be clear, you're saying at some point we'll get to have 2 archetypes together? Was this the surprise Russell meant that was in the offseason? Because I only recall you being allowed to change your archetype, which I assumed would overwrite the first one, not join the two. Of course, I may be remembering incorrectly. If you're right, I'm picking this game up ASAP. Will be checking the RTTS stream and hopefully reviews shed light on this.

I got that same schpeel from the coach. "Quickest route to the majors". I declined his wanting me to switch positions and I ended up getting called up to the Majors directly from AA anyways! And there wasn't an injury.

Was pretty ridiculous. Immersion...cya...gone...buh bye...it's outta here!

It does in fact feel like SDS did not play this mode beyond a few weeks into a season. The Q/A testing needs to wake up.

I scared that's going to happen to me. I just had the agent hired and the "hire ups in the club are noticing you," cut scene. Last year that meant at the all Star break you get called up to the MLB.
I hope not. It would be a disaster

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

I just posted this on the The Show Nation bug report page:

                    RTTS Issues:

                    1. In every RTTS save I played, the coach always wanted me to change positions and gave me the schpeel about how it will help me get to The Show faster. The problem is that depending on the position, it almost forces you to change your archetype and he says "it may impact your development".

I don't want to change my archetype. I picked it for a reason. This happened EVERY SAVE i played, except for being a Starting Pitcher.

                    2. Under no circumstances should a player be called up for AA straight to MLB, unless he's an absolute beast of a player, and the guy at the AAA and MLB level are either injured or totally suck. This happened to me with the Orioles when I was a 62 OVR for 3rd baseman. There weren't injuries to anyone in MLB (Machado or the other 3B) and even if there were, I'm sure there were Free Agents in the low 70's that could be signed instead of calling me up from AA.

This would definitely impact my development. Needless to say in the first 5 games I went 1 for 20. Pitchers were eating me alive. When I was in AA I had a .383 average, 10 HR's, about 45 RBI's, an ISO of .200 and a POP of 1.183 after over 300 plate appearances. I also had a .983 fielding %.

                    3. MLB The Show has been plagued by only evaluating players by their OVR instead of stats and how well they do behind the plate AND in the field. That has literally ruined immersion and it needs to be addressed...badly.

                    4. This ties into #3. It took forever for them to call me up and they SHOULD have called me up to AAA instead of MLB. The 3B player was 63 OVR and while I was 62, I'm pretty sure that I was doing incredibly enough to be called up in place of him.

                    Which ties into #5....

                    5. There is no stat tracking for Minors so I can't tell what the 3B in AAA (my competition) was playing. He could have been batting like garbage and had bad fielding as well.

THIS...THIS IS WHY we need stat tracking in this game for the minors. Come on. This is really immersion breaking.

Anyway, hope these things get addressed.

Anyone else noticing that if you manually play the whole game with your rtts pitcher you only ever improve your primary pitch even if you are using the other pitches to get results. Whereas if you sim the game your other pitches also improve.

So far, two months into the season I've allowed three inside the park homeruns while playing the outfield. The ball gets by me then I can't find it. As far as I can tell, you can't rotate the camera after the ball is hit. Does anyone have a solution?

Click R3 to show the catch region - in fact, you can you can just hold it before the pitch to make the camera switch on contact.
