Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

Can someone tell me if potential matters? Started with a "C", had a great pro day with maxed draft bar. Go into the 1st game still with a C. Barrel up the ball all 5ab and finish 3-5 with 1 HR, 2 2b, 4rbi. No errors, fielded all my chances at 3rd. I come out thinking " damn that's a pretty good game". When I start game 2 my potential is now a "D", so can someone tell me what happened?

So I asked this WAY earlier in this thread but I think it got lost in a sea of other posts so I figured I'd ask again: does anyone know if you can raise your player's potential? From all the videos I've seen of RTTS this year everyone seems to always start out as a C or D potential, so am I to assume that as you progress further through your career it just increases through performance? Or is it determined by how well you play in the showcase and the people I've watched play through it just suck? I'm hoping it's one of the two because I think it would be a bit unrealistic to have a perennial All-Star and be stuck at C/D potential. Apologies for having to ask this again instead of just testing this myself but I'm currently waiting for the OSFM rosters to drop before I start my career.

In previous years If you exceed your expectations your potential will raise. I’m waiting for the OSFM rosters to drop to start my new career I brought over two from 17.

Also, not sure if this is by design or a bug but you will not get a plus to reaction as an OF if you use r3 to track the ball in flight.

          Edit:
Alsø wik it appears you won't get the reaction bonus only if you use r3 to track the entire flight of the ball. If you release r3 before you get to the ball marker you should get the reaction bonus.

Alsø alsø wik when given the option to throw to 2nd when you know the runner at 1st won't advance just throw to the cutoff man for an easy bonus to arm accuracy.

Has anybody made it to the MLB Futures All-Star Game?

In 17 I made it in my first year in AA and also got to play the AA All-Star game after it. I'm approaching the All-Star break in year 1 of 18 and leading the league in BA, doubles, Hits, and RBIs with the most All-Star votes in my league for all positions.. but I simmed ahead a couple weeks to see if the Futures Game would trigger and it did not. I'm guessing the reason is that either the Futures Game isn't in MLB the Show 18 or the roster is based off of overall ratings instead of All-Star votes. I have better stats and more All-Star votes in 18 than 17 but my overall is roughly 60 in 18 when it was 75 at the All-Star break in 17. I guess it could also involve potential ratings. I was an A in 17 and I'm a D in 18.

It's a little painful if we can't get in the game when leading the league in pretty much all stats. Playing the Futures Game has always been one of my favorite parts of playing the minors in RTTS.

Enjoying the new setup, just finished my first season in Rtts on hall of fame default. Got drafted in 23rd round to Seattle as CF(ballhawk), always wanted to play for them in rtts. I had pretty successful first year in the books, got called up to triple A June 1st, and finished out the season in triple A, got invited to spring training and Dee Gordon was traded, given the chance to compete for starting spot against 32 yr old 73 CF in spring training, we will see if I get the call or sent back to triple A for the regular season.

I love it when you get a Plate Discipline gain on a called strike. It's the games way of telling you "Yep, that was a ball."

Also, I have a 25 game hitting streak going in my first year of AA right now. And it's not even due to a bug where the first pitch is always a fastball down the middle!

It should go up the better you play. My potential is an F after I decided to finish college. I think mine dropped because my player started at 22 years old, so less time to develop. I haven't seen it change yet, I'm only at the all-star break in my first season, double A. I'm not sure what happened in your case, but something should change by your second season since that's how it was in previous games. Potential doesn't matter to your progression, but it could affect your trade value, also whether or not a team wants to trade you ore keep you but that also takes into account your OVR of course. Same for free agency, but that won't matter for a long time. For now, I'd say give it time.

I am having a horrible time with my RTTS 2B character getting picked off on base and I am not even taking the extra base leads. Is this because his speed and base stealing attributes are fairly low being so early in his RTTS career? I use the Default Analog Left Stick base running controls and should I always be pressing left on the button? Or should I be doing something else. I got picked off again in a game last night (I believe it was the forth time) and I have moved the CPU slider pickoff from a 5 to a 4 though have yet to be back on base since this slider change to see if it helped.

My 2B uses the "My Reliable" archetype meaning he should be a well balanced hitter and fielder. But his weakness will be his speed. So he'll never be a base stealing threat. But I am having a horrible time so far in not being picked off.

Always have the left analog stick to the left towards the bag and you'll never ever get picked off. Just remember to let go of the stick once you see the pitcher is definitely throwing home so you don't accidentally keep yourself from advancing to the next base when the ball is hit.

Now that the OSFM V1 Rosters are set to drop, I'm ready to make my "keeper" career files. One OF and one SP.

I'm not yet sure about my position or archetype (just hopefully whichever will get me to MLB faster) but my SP will be the Plain Filthy, with Bob Gibson's windup (both will use Ken Griffey Jr's batting stance), and my initial 3 pitches will be a 4SFB, Splitter, and Sweeping Curve. I'll add a Cutter, and Sinker later on.

I am hoping that my SP gets drafted to a team whose AA club is in the Eastern League (but not the Mets) as I have a serious itch to drill Tim Tebow with a pitch.

This may be a silly question but how do I change the ball size after it’s hit? When I hit the ball into the outfield the ball remains huge. I want it to be realistic and get smaller the further out its hit. I cannot seem to find a setting to change it.

Has anyone here been drafted by the end of round teams? Teams like the Sox, Indians, Astros, Yankees, DBacks etc?

I know everyone gets drafted in like the 23rd/24th round but no matter how many times I re-load the draft on both of my test saves I can't seem to go to any other teams besides the same 5-7

As sad as it is, it has to be "your OVR > their OVR."
