Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread

Hey guys. New to this forum and the game. Sorry if this breaks any rules. Just had a quick question.

I usually have no desire to play the DD type games, which are similar to HUT in NHL. I usually much prefer the RTTS and Online Vs etc.

Is there truly no way to get actual branded equipment for my player other then playing DD? I somehow unlocked 1 single bat and thats it.

What are the ways? I must be doing something wrong. I have earned 1 bat thus far. I'm one week post all star game in the first season. I was called up to AAA 3 weeks before the all-star game. I've randomly unlocked cards for DD while playing RTTS.

I'd really like to be able to customize my player with some branded gear. Without having to play DD taking time from my RTTS player.

I mean I hate to say it, for obvious reasons, but theres always the option of buying stubs directly and using them for the gear. Its crappy, but its the fastest way

Yeah that was the only other way that I could see. Can you edit the colors of cleats and other gear that you can buy? I really dont want to pay for more on top of a $80 game.

What are the ways that buddy above is talking about?

You can customize the colors of the branded gear you wear. It can be done in one of two ways:

-First, go through the "Edit Player" option on the Attributes & Perks icon on the main RTTS page. There's a section to edit your equipment there that will let you change any/all of the colors. In that section, only certain items will be able to be changed though (eg, adding armbands, normal sleeves).

-Second, go through the "Edit Equipment" option in the same spot (the next option down in the A&P icon. There you can change to the branded gear (switch from a generic item to a branded item). You can customize there too if you back out to where you are just selecting bat, gloves, etc. and then hit the triangle button to customize.

              Now for the main part...

You earn rewards for games you end up playing. Depending on the mode, it can take anywhere from one to five or six games to earn a post-game award (it'll pop up after completing a game as a "Here is (random card chosen by RNG from players, equipment, sponsors) reward" and it gets added to your inventory.

As long as you're online to log in each time you start the game (once in a 24-hr period) you'll get a log-in reward. Rewards 1-8 are a random card from all of the inventory items (players, sponsors, equipment, etc). Log-in reward 9 is just the standard pack available (6 players plus 2 non-player items).

Stubs are the main form of in-game currency. Those stubs can be used to buy packs (currently standard, but as the season progresses various specialty packs). The other use for stubs is to use in the community market (basically an auction house or traders' market) where you can purchase a particular inventory item (so long as it is available to be sold).

Stubs are earned through gameplay (actual games in whichever game mode), completing missions, or by selling any sell-able item cards you have. You can also use real money to purchase stubs if patience is not your strong suit (depending on how much you play, the mode, cards sold, etc. you could take a few days or weeks to earn enough for a diamond-level item).

                Thanks for all that info.

I havent been getting daily log in rewards though. I see it counting up to 9 log ins however. I am connected to the internet but I havent payed for the play station network. I primarily play xbox and only have a ps4 specifically for the show.

And when you say actual games played, do you mean start to finish? I have been playing my show player when its my turn to hit, or field etc.

                  Welcome.

Yeah, it's pretty much every completed game. The reason for the variance of how often that rewards screen pops up is due to your game mode (RTTS/player lock, DD, franchise, play now). Playing a full game (going into the game and throwing every pitch on defense and working through every at-bat on offense) triggers rewards at what seems like a faster pace than getting four at-bats as a power-hitting, bat-first DH per game. I'm not 100% sure on the exact specifications that trigger a post-game reward but it's probably based on total innings pitched, plate appearances, or some combination of the two plus another factor I may be overlooking. However, I do know if you quit out of an online or DD match, you'll get the "Quit/Disconnect" reward card, but that's one specific card for one specific reason.

I guess just see when a post-game reward pops up, just see how many plate appearances you get until it pops up again and you can gauge about how fast the rewards show up.

                    Thanks man.

I really hate this trend in gaming of trying to separate you from your money when you have paid nearly $100 for a game.

I hit a cold streak, went down to .286 avg switching between DH and 3b. Now I’m probably 40 games in and back up in the .370. They wanted to move me from 3rd base to right field. I refused and got benched, that was pretty funny. Ended up playing right and enjoying it. I’m now a permanent right fielder and changed my archetype with it. Hit my first homer in, but the athletics AA squad is terrible.

for anyone who has transferred guys from 17 to 18, how did it handle the soft caps?

For example: if you transfered in a guy with 80 contact and chose mr. reliable (hard cap of 99) did it start your soft cap at 80 or higher up?

So I just made my LF on RTTS. I recreated my Astros LF/2B I played through 14-16. Just finished the showcase and the Astros draft me. How crazy is that? Idk how long I’ll be here though seeing how crowded the OF is though. I might spend a while here since they have a DH. When I’m in the Majors Tucker Fisher or I might be the DH.

Update: My Defensive Cannon RF got drafted by the Reds. Tebow disappeared from the Mets, and I started over again as V1.3 of the OSFM rosters also dropped last night. Again got drafted by the Reds (which is fine as my favorite player was Ken Griffey Jr), and again Tebow is missing from the Mets (maybe because he's a 30-year-old minor leaguer and the virtual Mets weren't going to keep him around).

So bottom line is, now I'm about to put my SP through the Showcase games, and I expect Tebow to disappear again, so I don't much care who drafts me now as I won't have the opportunity to hit him. Thank you virtual Mets for wisening up!

Isn't Tebow in A Ball on the OSFM rosters? Won't you have to put him on the AA squad if you want to see him in your RTTS games.
