I loved season mode because I could just use the 40 man and not have to mess with minor leagues or worry about fake players. I could care less about anything other than playing games and tracking stats. Exactly what season mode does. I knew they had taken it out when I watched the twitch streams and didn’t see it in the menus. I think they underestimate how it effects how people play the game. I always used season mode for my fantasy drafts with classic rosters as well. They always told us they would not remove modes. That has now proven false.

I sure hope they would patch it back in.

More I have played, the more this is bothering me. I loved season mode. I don't have time for 162 games. (Unless I shorten the innings maybe?) I'm really trying to be positive as Show has always been a "go-to" game for me. And because of that I didn't do any research before walking into Gamestop and getting my copy. I'm on the verge of regretting 18 though, and I am 100% trying to be positive about it. But season mode was my jam, I didnt really DD, or play online.
I mean I have no one to blame but myself for not doing ANY research, but Ive had the game 36 hrs and its starting to grate on me with no season mode.

Suppose I can continue my RTTS from 17, but I enjoyed running seasons with my Cubbies as well.

On a positive note I am enjoying the gameplay, so its not like I'm dumping on the game entirely...just missing Season Mode.

If you already bought it you should do that effort to stay positive. The gameplay is apparently better that´s a plus for you.

About the playing, shortening the innings will lead to no bullpen used since your starter can usually play 5 innings. Bullpen really is an important part of the game and you would be missing on that...

Maybe you can play 1 game per series and simulate the rest? I absolutely despise simulating, but some people don´t mind.

Or play the 1st game of the number 1 SP, the 2nd game of the number 2 SP and so on, so you play your games following the pitchers order and simulate between...

I'm really trying to be positive as Show has always been a "go-to" game for me. And because of that I didn't do any research before walking into Gamestop and getting my copy. I'm on the verge of regretting 18 though, and I am 100% trying to be positive about it. But season mode was my jam, I didnt really DD, or play online.

There was no info that they took out season mode they just figured everyone would buy it and it would be to late to do anything about it , it's all about the money

Exactly they had info that online franchise wouldn't be in the game but never said anything about not having season mode

I’m assuming it was taken out with Online Franchise when they rewrote the code. I enjoy both online and offline play but this explicit and destructive bias for online play is insane and it’s clear that the priority is on online play for the DD microtransactions. Offline play simply doesn’t produce the profit that DD does. I completely understand the profit motive, but seeing as they’re the only true to life simulation baseball game out there, they should at least *try* to make the experience fulfilling for all players instead of continuing to line their pockets while deconstructing less profitable aspects of the game.
For years I’ve refused to overly criticize the developers and I’ve been very tolerant of their questionable decisions because I truly believed they still had all players’ interests in mind and were attempting to improve all areas, but at this point I see no way that can still be true. They removed these modes for the sole reason of catering to online gameplay.
I’ve enjoyed Season a lot and I’m incredibly disappointed it’s gone but I’m mostly upset because they’ve 100% confirmed the direction they’re heading and I do not see them ever turning it around.

Maybe I can help you a bit as I'm in the same exact position except for having pre ordered the game and played it in advance. I was pissed when I loaded the game and saw no option for season mode as well as thats all I've ever played. I couldn't bring over my 17 roster that I spent so much time on building. so I said oh well, I have the game now and I'm stuck, let me try franchise mode. basically long story short, you can make it pretty much like season besides shortening the length of the season. the only thing that I still don't like is the fact that you have to train the players as their stats depreciate over time depending on performance.There might be away around that but I haven't found it yet. U can always just edit them and put that stats back to where they were but its time consuming a bit. but as far as franchise being different from season mode, is the length of not being able to shorten it. as far as having to do all the GM stuff, there is an option list at the beginning before the franchise starts where u can turn some stuff off. all in all Id rather have season but franchise is growing on me to be honest.

It's a nice thought, but it would be half the revenue, unless they charged for the update in the off years...which I'm sure nobody would like. I'd have no problem paying $80 every two years but I'm sure that puts me in the small minority. (However, games today are slightly cheaper than back in early 90s...where you could pay $40-$50 per game...but that was more money than the same price today.)

In any case, companies used to try that model (Sierra's Nascar Racing series comes to mind) but it fizzled out...Nascar was gobbled up by EA which pioneered the whole "game a year" model...is everybody just following suit, though? That is, can a multi-year cycle really work? It's possible...but probably too risky to try, at this point..because you can bet a competitor will time their new release to coincide with your off year.

No, I think the one-year cycle is here to stay, unfortunately.

I'd pay $200-300 for a version of Madden if all of the communities wants and demands were met.

Same goes for The Show.

I like to play with old players 1 season No trades then in to playoff no player retires want to keep roster as is can u do that with Franchise

The biggest complaint I had with Franchise is how much players degrade during the season, especially older ones. I haven't played enough to tell in 2018, but already 4 games in, Brandon Crawford dropped 40 -> 38 in speed. I remember in previous years, I had Javy Lopez as a lefthanded specialist and he was lights out, but because he was 35+, his stats constantly dropped, regardless of how well he was doing. I much prefer the Season model, where all the attributes changed at the end of the year.

To be quite frank, you shouldn't need to do any "research" to learn if you can play a single season of a simulation-style, PS4-gen sports game in the year 2018. That we now have to consider the real possibility that this glaring hole could be in any future sports title, well, it's an eye-opener. Pandora's box has been opened and who knows where this leads.

This game can do a lot of things, but one thing you can't do is simply play a season's worth of baseball games. Go figure.

This is BS! And with all these twitch streams where they sit around and congratulate themselves about how great the game is and they don't even mention it?! I know its their game and they can do what they want but they should at least mention that an option that has been a staple of every baseball game for over 20 years is going to be dropped. But again they know they are the only option we have so hey who cares right?
