Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

    Orioles Vs Astros

The Astros came into their home opener 2-2 on the season with Dallas Keuchel taking the mound. For the O's, Caleb Ferguson the 21 year old rookie was being thrown into the fire pit against the defending world champions in their home opener.

Ferguson, twirled 6 excellent innings holding the Astros to 2 runs as tired out at 80 pitches. Mychal Givens was given the ball and immediately gave up runs.

Heading into the 9th inning the Astros were up 6-2 and Dallas Kuechal was spinning a gem, but taken out at 114 pitches to make way for Will Harris.

Harris proceeded to let up a leadoff single to shallow left to Trey Mancini and then walked Gorkys Hernandez.

Tim Beckham then went yard to deep left field on a 9 pitch at-bat to make the score 6-5 with no outs.

Enter Astros Closer Roberto Osuna who immediately struck out 9-hole batter Austin Romine.

Back to the top of the order where (created player Craig Berroa a 81 rated CF) singled off the pitcher's leg then found the gap between SS & 3B.

To Jonathon Villar who got hold of a breaking ball back into his hands and hugged the line and cracked a fair ball 2-run HR off the foul pole. Gallo then flew out to deep centre at the warning track.

    Orioles 7 Astros 6 ...

Enter Zach Britton facing 9-1-2 of the Astros lineup

Kyle Tucker ground out to 2B
    Brixton drew a walk
    Bregman struck out swinging
    Altuve singled to shallow centre
Correa was intentionally walked to load bases
And Springer was struck out swinging to give the Orioles the win and Britton his 2nd save of the year.

Just an unreal game. I've very rarely got to any team's closer, let alone score 5 runs in an inning. but to do all of that is a big thing for me. lol

Going into the season I wanted to at some point – if I was contending in games – to get a left handed ace (maybe Robbie Ray from Arizona) ... but Caleb Ferguson has me thinking he might be able to shoulder that load ... although he tires after 80 pitches ... maybe I just bring in an excellent set up guy to go with Givens and Britton to pitch the 7-8-9 with?

Hmmm. I still only get injuries in simmed games.

not that I'm complaining ... the O's aren't deep at any position, so one injury could derail us.

Orioles move to 5-0 as Cashner earns the win against Verlander 3 to 2.

Verlander had a 2-nil lead and was dominant in 7 innings of work, but after allowing a single and a walk, left a curve over the middle of the plate which Adam Jones crushed in the top of the 5th inning.

Given bounced back and struck out three in an inning of work in the 8th and Britton managed his 3rd save on the young year.

All of Baltimore's victories have been by two runs or less, and two of them have needed 9th inning rallies to get the job done.

We now move a 4-game road trip to Yankee stadium.

Boy oh boy.. tough start for my ChiSox Chise in 2019..

Two weeks in, we're sitting at 7-10.

Offense has been fine - Madrigal, Leury Garcia, and Jose Abreu have hit really well - all above .330 thus far, and I've gotten some nice contribution from bench players like Daniel Palka (rookie). LOVE Madrigal thus far. Glad I threw him into the fire - for a rookie, he's playing really well and provides good defense over at 2nd. (Not hyperbole to say he could be this team's version of Jose Altuve).

Adam Engel is also really entrenching himself as my everyday CF - has an OBP higher than .430, and steals bags at will. Just really liking the lineup overall.

Starting pitching has been a nightmare however. The experiment of having youngsters Carson Fulmer and Alec Hansen at the back end of the rotation hasnt really panned out well thus far...

Panicking a bit (), I decided to bring in some help. Reynaldo Lopez had made 2 starts and sported an 11+ era, so I took to the trade block to see what I could do. (Adopting the house rule someone in this topic previously mentioned of only going after guys on the block).

I saw the Brewers had listed Chase Anderson. He's an 82 still, but it looks like hes on the outside looking in on a revamped Brewers pitching staff. Made one start this year, struggled, and was quickly banished to the bullpen.

He's on a two year deal, (31 yrs old), and I saw the Brewers were asking for 3B help, so I offered them Matt Davidson (currently in Triple A) + Renaldo Lopez. They accepted.

So now, early on I've added Chase to help solidify my staff. I just dropped my 4th straight game, a series opener to the Royals (after getting swept by the Rays at home). Chase is due to start the next game - here's hoping he can help me right the ship!

Anyone ever notice the CPU line up player stamina issues?

User Controlled team and CPU team both loose energy throughout a series. But the CPU never makes a adjustment to its line up! 😕

                OVERVIEW
We had an awesome June- mid July.

Rhys Hoskins is leading the mvp race (.322 AVG/38 HR/98 RBI

Yoan Moncada is third (.381 AVG/21 HR/68 RBI)

We did lose Jose Abreu to a shin fracture in the second to last series before the all star break. Hoskins was selected for the HR derby but lost in the first round to Manny Machado (18-17) we have had a couple of offers for Lucas Giolito but if anything we are buyers this season not sellerd.

We have a comfortable lead in the division and appear to be a lock for the playoffs unless se have a monumental break down before the end of the season.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I am now 65 games into my first ever The Show Franchise!

After a very poor start into the season in April my Blue Jays went on a 21-5 hot streak in May.
Currently we are sitting in 3rd place in the AL East with a 35-30 record and with just 0.5 games behind the 2nd wildcard spot (Twins).

June has started of difficult again also due to injuries to some of my starters.
Currently on DL and out for minimum 1 month are Solarte, Grichuk and Pillar.
Besides that Vladdy Jr. broke his shin and is also out for about 2 months.

Pitching is in the Top 5 in almost every category. We are leading in strikeouts, are 2nd in hits allowed and also in ERA.

On the offensive side we had a very tough start in April and had big problems to get runs in - averaging less than 3 per game through April. However lead by Justin Smoak, who has already 20 homers and was leading the MLB in HR and RBI‘s for a long time, we managed to overcome the offensive drought in May/June.

I love this game! I am playing every game, every inning and it has been a blast so far. Looking forward for the next series.

I see the cpu give guys days off quite often in my franchise. The 3 game series that I just played against the Brewers, they gave Ryan Braun the day off on Wednesday, and then on Thursday, day game after night game, they gave Jacob Nottingham (everyday catcher) the day off.

Happens quite frequently in my franchise to be honest.

Cardinals extend their winning streak to 4 games after a dramatic walk off win vs the Cubs on Friday night. Down 4-2 in the bottom of the 9th, Randal Grichuk was at the plate with 2 on and 2 out. After working the count to 3-2 against Adam Warren, Grichuk proceeded to foul off 6 pitches in a row, before getting a fastball on the inner part of the plate that he turned on belted off the left field foul pole for the walk off 3 run homerun to win the game 5-4 over the Cubs.

With the victory the Cardinals extend their lead to 3 games over the Cubs in the Central. Game 2 will feature King Felix against Michael Wacha.

I'm getting ready to do one with the Atlanta Braves. Normally in the past I just played along with the season by using the same lineup and pitchers for that day. The only barrier is when a game gets postponed due to the weather, which I just go to the next day's lineup and pitchers. I don't try to duplicate the actual game, but I do like to compare stats between the game and the actual. This year I've been more focused on the Diamond Dynasty grinds, and I just haven't gotten around to do a franchise season. A course I just need the most accurate rosters I can use, which is hard to do this late in the season.

If anything I'm more guilty of this than the CPU (which is one reason why I'm surprised I have so few injuries).

CPU lineups are almost always higher energy than mine overall.

Mets take Game 2 of the 2019 season-opening series against the Phillies. Unlike Opening Day, which saw the Mets go crazy and win 16-1 (clearly letting out their frustrations over the end to the 2018 season), this game was a 2-1 affair into the eighth inning, before Ahmed Rosario crushed a 3-run HR to make a 5-1 lead, and that would wind up being the final score.

He also bats left.

The other bats right and is a clearly superior option at the plate, but provides mediocre defense and is slow enough to never be a threat.

Personally I'm leaning towards the defensive specialist. I've always valued good defense at third. I'm just wondering what other people's thoughts are on the 3B position. I sometimes feel like I'm the only person who prefers defense (especially reaction) over offense there.
