Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

2018 White Sox are through May 2nd with a 17-14 tied with Detroit for first in the AL Central. Minnesota is a half game out, Cleveland is a game and Kansas City is 4 out.

Offense has been mediocre as a whole. The Sox are ranked 20th in batting average and 19th in runs. Jose Abreu with a .283 avg, 12 HR's and 25 RBI's and Welington Castillo with a .322 avg 4 HR's and 15 RBI's providing most of our offense. Charlie Tilson has gotten on fire within the last week out of the lead off spot, raising his average from .217 to .304.

Sox are ranked 20th in the Majors in ERA. Starting pitching is holding us in some games is all you can really say. Bullpen though has been pretty good.

We begin a 4 game set with Minnesota next.

The 2018 season has officially drawn to a close after a six game World Series. deGrom was a little shaky, allowing home runs to Gary Sanchez and Aaron Hicks in the 2nd inning to put us behind 3-0. In the top of the third with two outs Amed Rosario hit what should have been a single to LF but Stanton tried to make a diving catch and the ball got behind him allowing Rosario to score on an inside the park HR to make it 3-1. Then in the 6th I got a three run blast from Cespedes to put us up 4-3. deGrom was not his usual dominant self, he was constantly pitching with men on base and even walked three but he labored through seven innings on 116 pitches, only allowing the three runs in the 2nd. I needed Matz to pitch the 8th to get the ball to Familia and then Familia struck out Aaron Judge to end the World Series, 4-3. Rosario hit .360 and was named MVP but I didn't think he made that much of an impact other than his HR. Cespedes hit less than .200 but played a huge part in our game 5 and 6 wins, he would have got my vote.

What a wild season, we got off to a slow start while Washington was on fire and fell 8.5 games back by May. Then we caught fire and were 4 up at the ASB. Then after the break we went in a huge funk for a month and a half and found ourselves 3.5 games out. Finally we caught fire again in September and rode that to a division title, then with our backs against the wall we had to go in to Chicago and win two road games against a 112 win team to advance to the World Series where four of the six games were one run games.

Now I'm off to the off season where I should have a ton of money to spend, but Familia is the only guy I plan on signing for more than a year. I want to make sure I have as much payroll flexibility as possible next off season so that I can make a run at Arenado

        Drury. ( .310. 5hr. 32rbi)

We continue to struggle and play bad baseball as we just dropped 3 of 4 to the Diamondbacks in Arizona. We can't hit, can't pitch, and are playing poor defense (8 errors in the series). I really don't know what to do to get things going back in the right direction. We are banged up with Mikolas, Piscotty, Navarro, and Sierra all on the DL and now with us being in August, finding players to plug holes is difficult. Our lead over the Cubs has decreased to 4 games as they are hotter than a firecracker right now. Frustrating.

One area that we are considering, again, is the bullpen. John Brebbia was demoted to Memphis in favor of Jordan Hicks due to his struggles, but Hicks is on the DL until mid-late September, so we recalled Brebbia who continues to struggle. Our options include sticking with Brebbia and waiting for Hicks to return, sending him down and trying Miguel Socolovich, or going outside the organization. If there is one position that is "deep" in August trade waivers, its relief pitching. We are scouring the market, but not sure what to do.

We do get Sierra back in about 2 weeks so that will hopefully be a boost as Harrison Bader, Juan Fabregas, and Oscar Mercado just aren't cutting it right now at the plate. Stephen Piscotty will not be back until late September, so we are evening browsing the outfield market, but via trade and free agency, but again, nothing that I feel 100% comfortable in doing.

We have the AL Central leading White Sox next in Chicago for a quick 2 game series. Hopefully we can sweep this mini series and start playing good solid, fundamental baseball again. If not, we could find ourselves in a position we didn't expect to be in given how well we started, and that is a tight pennant chase for the division, and making the playoffs.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Any idea how high you can increase your revenue and if there is anything besides winning and getting sponsorships that you can do to increase it. I'm coming off a World Series win and I'm only at $5.7 million per week. I'm wondering if I've hit my ceiling.

                2018 Oakland A’s Fantasy Franchise

April 16th- We just completed our first road trip of the season and it was a successful one. After losing the first game to the Angels on a walkoff squeeze play in the 11th inning, we bounced back to take 6 of the final 7 games on the trip to bring our season record to 14-2 to start the year. The only other loss was also a 1-run loss to the Dodgers in a series split 1-1.

Our offense took the momentum of the 18 run game that ended our Homestand and we matched our run output with 47 runs over the 8 game trip. We mashed 25 HR to bring our season total to 41 already. All of the games were tight as we had the two 1-run losses and Hicks saved 5 of the 6 wins on the trip. Our biggest margin of victory was a 7-3 win over the Dodgers.

Our best win on the trip that I’d like to highlight was the rubber match vs the Angels. After losing the first game, we came back to take game 2 8-5 with Kopech getting his first career win. Ohtani was cruising through game 3 and we had a 2-0 lead. Then in the bottom of the 7th the Angels were able to string together a bunch of basehits, all singles and 1 double. Before the inning was over they’d plate 4 and take a 4-2 lead. That would be the score going into the 9th and they brought in their closer Knebel to try and shut it down. Bellinger led off the inning with a HR and then Krush Davis and Travis Shaw would follow him up to make it back to back to back HR and the A’s took a 5-4 lead. A few batters later Pham would add on a 2-run shot to make it 7-4 and then Hicks came on to shut it down in the bottom half for the save. Great come from behind victory and set the tone for the rest of the trip.

All of my pitchers are doing very well. Ohtani and Morton are both 3-0. Hicks has had 10 appearances already and is 1-0, 9/9 saves and has given up zero runs over 9 1/3 IP.

Harper, Bellinger and Davis have combined for 25 HR and 57 RBI already. Harper is batting .377(5th). Kike Hernandez has been starting almost everyday now and is hitting .375 with 3 HR.

Back home for a quick 6 game stand vs the White Sox(7-9) and Red Sox(10-5).

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I'm just about finished with what has been a pretty uneventful off-season, Harper, Machado, and Goldschmidt all re-signed with their teams. The surprise move of the off-season was the Padres signing Brian Dozier to a $189 million deal. Weird thing is I did a test off-season to make sure I understood the budgets correctly and they all ended up signing with new teams. It wasn't a very sexy off-season for the Mets, I re-signed Familia who was set to become a free agent and was able to ink deGrom and Wheeler to five year deals. I picked up two guys in the rule 5 draft and made some minor trades to get some bullpen arms with upside that aren't quite major league ready. The bridge from my starters to Familia is going to be the biggest question for the team going in to the season.

I am still not quite sure how the budget works. I'm showing a projected cash flow of 297K, and from what I understand I take that times 26 to see roughly what I have available to spend. That has me at 7.7 million to spend, but I've got a trade for JT Realmuto that the Marlins are interested in, but it says I can't make it due to budgetary constraints despite him only being due $2.5 million. When I toss in someone with a higher salary it goes through but that kind of defeats the purpose of Miami trading him if they have to take on salary. I may have to do that anyway and pretend I also sent them cash in the deal, or just buy and extra $5million in budget. Sure it's not a level playing field since the cpu can't do that but it seems a little crazy that the defending WS Champions that play in a big market have a $120 million payroll.

Edit: I went ahead and bought another $4million of budget, but it just changes the amount in the bank from $5 million to $9million and still gives me the budgetary constraint message when I offer the trade so I'm not sure what the purpose of buying the extra budget is. Any insight would be appreciated

In terms of the extra budget that you buy, I'm pretty sure that goes into your bank. Since you bought it after the end of the season, I believe your bank now goes toward next seasons offseason.

Theres something in there that says playoff teams get money deposited in their bank until eliminated therefore once your season ends, you no long get money added to your bank and your bank money rolls over to your weekly budget which you then calculate to your available spending.

In regards to why you cant trade for Realmuto...I dont know...I know it counts arbitration money against you until those are finalized.

Thanks for the help. All of the arbitration is finalized, I don't have any pending offers out there. I've tried making the trade after the arbitration hearings and I've also simmed to spring training to see if that would make a difference but I got the same message both ways. What really confuses me is that Realmuto is making $2.5 million and there are budget constraints preventing me from making the trade, but then I went to the free agents to see what I could spend and I was able to sign someone for $7.9 million. This was in spring training, but when I tried doing that after the arbitration hearings but before spring training my offer would get pulled due to budget constraints. I'm completely lost as to how much money I have available, but it seems like if I include two guys making at least 570k I can pull it off so I'm going to go ahead and do that.

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point that I'm going to win the division with an MLB-best 97-46 record. But it's nice to have a three-game set at home against the second place Milwaukee Brewers with my magic number sitting at just one. One win against the Brewers and the Cubs are the NL Central division champions for the third consecutive season.

                          2018 Oakland A’s Fantasy Franchise

April 23: Terrible Homestand for the A’s. We had been rolling so good to start the season I guess we were due for our first slump and we got our asses kicked in our own house. We lost 2 out of 3 to the White Sox and then we were swept 3-0 by Boston and now sit at 15-7. Our offense was ok, not great, but pitching was pretty awful allowing ~6 runs per game over the 6 game stretch. Hicks blew his first save, Salazar got hit with a line drive in the 2nd inn of his start and had to come out(nothing serious, just a few days off).

Harper and Bellinger remain red hot batting .386 and .360 respectively. Harper has a 22 game hit streak to start the year! Lots of guys have gone cold though and we now have multiple guys batting under .200 including Khris Davis who has gone ice cold after his hot start. Ohtani did HR 2 times on the Homestand bringing his total to 3 for the year in just 28 ABs.

Heading on a 9 game road trip vs divisional opponents(Tex, Hou, Sea). Hopefully we can get hot again.

The 2018 White Sox end May at 27-29, currently 4th in the AL Central 6.5 games behind first place Minnesota.

Offense has been near the bottom in the league. The Sox have the 23rd ranked offense in AVG and 20th in Runs, tied for 11th in Homers though. Jose Abreu leading the team with a .313 Avg, 20 HR's and 43 RBI's.

Pitching, especially the starting pitching, has been one of the worst teams in the AL. We are ranked 24th in the MLB in ERA, tied for 28th in homers allowed, and 29th in strikeouts.

The Yankees just keep falling as April starts winding down, most recently at the hands of the Royals, dropping two out of three at Yankee Stadium.

The series started out great as the Yankees cruised to a 6-0 win in the series opener with Jordan Montgomery on the mound. One of the very few times the Yankees have really looked to be on in every part of their game. That was where you would think that this was finally where the Yankees start rolling.

Nope, we lost the last two 1-6 and 5-8. We now sit at 8-13 on April 23rd. We are already a nice chunk of games out of first place at 7 games back behind Boston. The 16-7 Red Sox are already creating some space between themselves and the competition with the second place Blue Jays being 4.5 behind.

At this point things are starting to spiral out of control. Of course there's a ton of season left but you don't want to dig a huge hole early. After the series loss to the Royals the Yankees announced some roster moves over the Monday off day as the team travelled to Toronto.

First, we released rule 5 pick SP/long reliever Nick Tropeano. He only got 13.2 innings of action but he didn't exactly impress with the time he was given. Adam Warren was called up to replace him.

The big one, in a shocking move the Yankees announced that 1B Jose Abreu is headed to AAA Scranton to work out his issues. He had all 3 options and he's been absolutely horrible to this point. Hitting 173 with only 3HR's. Nevermind the fact that pretty much anything hit hard towards him gets right past.

We need a spark from somewhere and I'm not sure we could continue putting up with his performance with where the team is at. The hope and goal is that this will be brief and he will be rejoining the MLB squad within the next several weeks after he gets hot and starts killing AAA pitching.

In the meantime, Miguel Andujar is sliding from the bench into the 1st base job. Who is taking Abreu's spot on the roster? Longtime Yankee OF Brett Gardner. After being forced to remain with the Yankees on a super cheap 1 year deal after receiving no interest from teams as a FA, he has returned to the MLB roster.

Few expected him back in the Bronx so soon. He was hitting well on fire at AAA and was part of the 2018 championship squad so maybe he could give us a jolt. He will immediately take back the lead off spot in the lineup.

It's gonna be a bit tight on the roster. Harper, Judge, and Stanton will rotate through the DH role. Cruz will lose at bats,
so will Hicks, who already was lacking action.
Luckily Chris Taylor can pretty much play everywhere. Let's see how it goes.
