Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Boeve's first outing with the new delivery already has given his team a scare.

In the 6th innings against the Rockies, he had to be removed for "precautionary reasons" after the training staff noticed what they thought was Boeve moving his right (throwing) arm differently following an offering to the plate.

The Marlins have stated that he will not be placed on the injured list and Boeve is reportedly cleared to make his next start on schedule with no limitations.

Boeve expressed his frustration in the locker room after the game.

"They take me out because they think I'm hurt. Okay, fine, they want to be careful, it's a long season, blah blah. But then they basically say, 'oh sorry you weren't hurt you could have kept playing and you'll go next turn with full workload.' It's like...so what did you see to make it seem like I was hurt? Did it magically disappear?" Boeve said.

None of the Marlins trainers were available for comment after the game. Pitching coach Craig Rose was talking to Boeve as they left the clubhouse, probably trying to explain the situation.
"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The 2020 White Sox exit the postseason after losing the ALCS to Boston in 5 games. We just didn't have the pitching to keep up with Boston's.

Jose Abreu, Kyle Seager and rookie Jeremy Ramirez provided pretty much all the offense for us in the playoffs. Abreu batting .294 with 2 HR's and 5 RBI's, Seager .323 with 1 Homer and 4 RBI's and Ramirez .355 with 2 HR's and 3 RBI's. Nobody else hit over .250.

The Phillies beat the Cardinals in the NLCS in 6 games to set up a Boston and Philadelphia World Series.

Boston won the World Series in 7 games, where the road team won every game. So much for home field advantage.

Playoff MVP's were in the AL Andrew Benintendi (BOS) and in the NL Mike Moustakas (PHI)

World Series MVP: J.D. Martinez (BOS)

Well the White Sox head into the Offseason, May go look for help for the back of the rotation and bullpen.

The Cardinals are your 2021 National League Central Division Champions!

After taking the first 2 games of a 3 game series against the Cubs, the Cardinals have clinched the National League Central Division crown! This is the Cardinals 4th divisional championship in the past 6 years.

The Cardinals are also tied with the Marlins and Dodgers (96-65) for the best record in the National League thus forcing manager Mike Matheny to decide if he wants to play his everyday players in hopes of securing the top spot. The Cardinals won the season series against the Marlins (4-2) but lost the season series against the Dodgers (4-3).

More good news for the Cardinals is that Matt Carpenter returned sooner than expected and is back with the club. He pinch hit in Game 1 of the series against the Cubs, drawing a walk. It's likely that Carpenter will be on the 25 man playoff roster in place of a struggling Marwin Gonzalez who has most likely played his last game in a Cardinals uniform unless there is an injury.

The Cardinals will play their regular season finale tomorrow in Wrigley against the Cubs. Kyle Hendricks is starting for the Cubs. Scherzer is scheduled to start for St.Louis, but if Matheny decides to rest his starters, it will likely be Junior Fernandez who takes the mound.

The 2021 White Sox head into Spring training after signing Free Agent reliever Andrew Chafin and trading RF Jorge Soler and SP Lucas Giolito to Milwaukee for a couple 22 year old pitching prospects, CP Patrick McKenzie, 65 overall w/ A potential and SP Gary Hooks, 64 overall w/ with C potential.

#1 overall Prospect SP Omar Salgado will have a slight chance to make the team out of spring, but more than likely will get more seasoning in AAA to start the season.

            ORIOLES REBUILD YEAR 2
            Deadline 2019

Reds looking to capitalize on hot streak and improve pen and lineup.

            JULY 31, 2019

The Cincinnati Reds are enjoying a 62-48 record and a streak of winning 8 of their last 10. However, the club seems to be feeling the heat breathing down their necks. They have a 1 game lead over the Brewers and a slimmer than it looks 4.5 game lead of the Cubs. With that in mind the Reds have reportedly been in on talks with Kansas City to acquire bullpen help and a bat.

Sources close to the Reds say they are trying to get Brian Flynn and Whit Merrifield. The Royals are 20 games under .500 and are looking to continue their rebuild. However, Merrifield, who was once a much sought after vet has taken a dip in the market and now teams like Cincinnati are trying to get them for a low price.
The Royals are looking for pen depth for the future and a prospect. The rumored deal is:

            2B Shed Long 23-68-B (AA) .243 8 HR 40 RBI 16 SB $477 K final yr
            RP Austin Brice 26-70-B (AAA) 3.12 41K 11 BB $450K final yr
            LHRP Amir Garrett 26-70-C 3.04 4-2, $550 K final yr

INF/OF Whit Merrifield 30-80-B .263 7 HR 74 fielding, plays multiple pos, $1M final yr
            LHRP Brian Flynn 28-80-B 26 SV 2.97 ERA $1.87 M final yr

The Reds would likely send down 2B Alex Blandino (.232) and rotate Merrifield in at SS and move Peraza to the OF. After a decent year in '18 where he hit .260 with 13 HR, Peraza has seen his power numbers continue but he hasn't seen his average jump above .230 this season and his range has decreased.

The Reds are also rumored to be shopping OF Jesse Winker 25-77-A who is hitting just .191 this year after a .280 16 HR season in 2018. His upside could get them a top notch infielder or a shut down set up man/ bull pen help. Lorenzen and Peralta have ERA over 5 and neither Quackenbush or David Hernandez are strikeout machines.

The Reds are looking to be very active this deadline and I'd expect the deal with KC to be done soon.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

7 games into May in 2020 and the Yankees are now 32-6. Been a while since I posted an update here, haven’t been very motivated to play as I’m not sure if I’m carrying it over to the Show 19 yet and I feel like if I decide not to then I’m wasting my time playing it now.

In the middle of the Red Sox series I bumped my hitting difficulty up to legend. I now play on default legend hitting and pitching.

To open May the Yankees went into Fenway and shocked the Red Sox sweeping them in 3 by scores of 3-1, 11-10, and 5-4. After a day off we then headed back to Yankee Stadium to face the Angels who were off to a slow start with a record of 16-19 after a season where they fell 1 win shy of a championship. In game 1 the Yankees won 11-4.

Game 2 was a familiar matchup but one you don’t see as much as you used to, another duel between Kershaw (NYY) and Bumgarner (LAA) though this time both were in different uniforms. Bumgarner clearly wasn’t himself that day as he showed major control issues handing out 5 free passes to Yankee hitters and only struck out 1 batter. He only lasted 1.2 innings and surrendered 8 runs. If you are going to hand this lineup free base runners via walks you are going to pay. Meanwhile Kershaw pitched 8 innings of 3 run ball and the Yankees won 12-3.

In game 3 LA sent Ohtani to the mound to try and avoid a sweep. Gray took the mound for us. Neither starter lasted very long out there as both were gone after 5 innings but both put in quality outings. Ohtani looked dominant through 4 before the Yankee lineup finally broke through as a Chris Taylor 3 run HR propelled them into the lead by a score of 3-2. Gray went 5 innings allowing 2 runs before the Yankees decided to turn it over to their dominant bullpen.

Fast forward to the top of the 8th after Holder, Kahnle, and Betances have already pitched. Robertson came in to pitch and wasn’t his usual self. On his third pitch he hung a knuckle curve to Justin Upton who absolutely obliterated the ball burying it deep in the seats in RF. Game tied at 3-3. Keynon Middleton held us scoreless in the 8th but Siegrist did the same for us sending it to the bottom of the 9th.

Arenado stepped up to the plate to lead off for us as LA put in Jose Alvarez to pitch. Arenado then promptly walked it off for us launching a walkoff solo shot to left. Yankees win!

                      Stories from around the league:

                      Yankees Continue Dominating.
In early May the Yankees have already amassed 32 wins and built a significant lead in the AL East. The 2nd place Jays already find themselves 10 games behind. It’s too early to say if this team can make history and break the 2001 Mariners 116 win record as there’s still plenty of baseball left to play but they are certainly in prime position to do so.

                      The End Of Joey Votto?
The Reds received devastating news back on April 12th as they learned that 1B Joey Votto’s season was over due to a torn Achilles tendon. Votto was seemingly improving with age as he put up back to back 41 HR seasons in 18 and 19 with his typical impressive ABG, OBP, and SLG. He was off to a slow through 50 AB’s hitting 240 with 1 HR before going down. Votto has been the prime example of durability and consistency for years. This marks the first season he won’t play 150+ games since 2014.

At age 36 it’s fair to wonder if he’ll walk away on top rather then attempt a return from the major injury at age 37 with no winning seasons in sight for Cincinnati. Votto is still owed 19.2M in this season, and 42M over the next 2 seasons after this one so he certainly has incentive to stick around.

                      Rebuild Over In KC?
The Royals find themselves at 23-15, but with a very talented Cleveland squad in the division it still leaves them 4.5 games out of first. They currently hold the top WC spot. It’s not the most stacked group in baseball but it’s a decent one with bats like Merrifield, Soler, Perez, Moustakas, and Bonafaxio. The pitching is concerning. Best pitchers are Jake Junis, Danny Duffy, Kelvin Herrera, and Brad Keller. Would be a good story to see this team playing in October.

                      Astros Underwhelming Early.
The Astros have a record of 18-20, trailing the Mariners by 1 game and the first place A’s by 3 games. Houston has had a steep decline on the pitching side of things. Gerrit Cole departed to join the rival A’s last offseason, Verlander is no longer what he once was dropping to 78 OVR at age 37, leaving McCullers 83 OVR and Francis Martes 83 OVR as their top 2. Henderson Alvarez and Lance Lynn fill out the 4 and 5 spots. The only arms that they have that scare you anymore are Giles and Devenski out of the pen. They still have one of the best lineups in MLB led by Altuve, Brantley, Correa, Springer, Bregman, and Realmuto, but is it enough?

                      Pitching Disaster in Anaheim.
Every Angels starter except Ohtani is off to a poor start.
                      Bumgarner: 5.29 ERA.
                      Ohtani: 2.61 ERA.
                      Richards: 5.05 ERA.
                      Heaney: 7.49 ERA.
                      Bridwell: 8.04.

                      Cardinals Slumping.
Cards are 3-7 in their last 10 and Chicago has taken full advantage as they have taken over 1st place now leading over St Louis by 1.5 games.

As for us, next we face the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium for a 3 game set before a day off where we then head to Miami for a brief 2 game series.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I have 51 games to go, and I'm starting to question if I'm going to make it. MLB 19 is calling me pretty hard now and I'm wondering if a break in between 18 and 19 wouldn't be good. But I'm also thinking about finishing this season on 18 and maybe waiting to get 19 on sale. The extra benefit of that is the first couple of patches will be out by then.

                        For now ...

I'm in early August and about to start a huge series in DC with the Nats. Their 12-game winning streak finally came to an end, but they have a 1.5 game lead over my Braves.

Also worried my trades may have backfired. Arenando has been cold since coming over. Camargo has been pretty clutch when he's played. Gohara lasted just four innings in his debut, so I'm worried about my pitching now.

Tried to complete my bench with a waiver trade, but haven't been able to get anything done. The Pirates weren't interested in trading me Cory Dickerson or Michael Saunders. I could get Brad Miller (Rays) or Victor Martinez (Tigers) but they don't really move the needle for me. For now, I've called up Ken Pagan, a 74-rated, B-level, CF prospect. We'll see how he handles the pressure of the Nats series and then decide whether to keep him or sending him back down.

Wow, so many posts to catch up on, cool!

So as I stated before MLB 18 has been shelved and my Reds Fantasy Franchise is now being played on MLB 17. Almost the exact team. We made it through Spring Training a little quicker this time as we Quick Managed all games by simming batter by batter. The Reds completed Spring Training with a 18 and 12 record, hey I know Spring Training doesn't count, but these are the Reds we are talking about!

So the 2017 Reds start the season out with a 3 game series against the Philadelphia Phillies at home. Now, I forgot by simming Spring Training I would not increase my Dynamic Difficulty levels, so we'll just chalk it up as the Reds got out of gate hot.

                            Game 1 -

Starter turned Reliever turned Starter Matt Belisle got the OPENING DAY start for the Reds and SP Aaron Nola got the start for the Phillies. The game stayed relatively close, with the Reds leading 3-0, until the 6th inning, a 3 run homer by Reds new 3rd baseman Travis Shaw really sealed it. The Reds won by a score of 6-0. Belisle went 7 strong innings, only being pulled because of an early season pitch count limit, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 8 Phillies. CF Drew Stubbs was the other offensive bat, by hitting 2 home runs and driving in 3 RBIs.

The Reds manager Rocco Baldelli did manage to get every Reds bench player substituted into the game and also saw RP Michael Lorenzen in one inning at First base and one inning in Right Field. RP Bronson Arroyo did come in in the 9th, but not to pitch, instead he took over at First base.

When Rocco was asked in the post-game interview about his unconventional substitutions he replied, " I have discussed with Reds ownership about subbing pitchers into fielding roles, and they fully support such moves when the game allows it. Both pitchers and position players, get giddy about, they are really having fun with it. So you never know when you come to the ballpark, as a fan, who you may see playing. Maybe someone will get to play all 9 positions...in the same game. You just got to come out and see." Any bets on who could be such super-utility man?

                            Game 2 -

SP Anthony DeSclafani would start for the Reds and SP Jerad Eickhoff for the Phillies. This would be a low scoring game, especially for the Dynamic Difficulty setting only being Pitching (Rookie) and Batting (Beginner 5). But the Reds still won by a score of 2-0. DeSclafani would pitch 7 innings of scoreless baseball, with RP J.J. Hoover and CP Jonathan Broxton closing out another game of shutout baseball. Broxton got his first Save of the season. Other than Rookie LF Andrew Benintendi's solo home run, the Reds bats only managed 4 more hits.

                            Game 3 -

With the Reds looking to sweep the Phillies, Reds SP Homer Bailey took the mound against Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson. With Bailey's 2015 and 2016 seasons being shortened by injuries and just plain pathetic, Reds ownership still likes Homer, "he is our Reclamation Project", we hope to see Homer turn it around this season.

It was a pitchers battle through the first 6 innings, the Reds scored 1 in the bottom of the 5th and 1 in the 6th. Hellickson exited after 5.2 inning after allow 2 runs. Then in the bottom of the 7th the Reds bats erupted against Rookie SP Ben Lively who came in relief?, scoring 5 runs off Lively with 6 hits, 2 being big bombs. Welcome to the BIGS, Ben. Dynamic Difficulty levels now are Pitching (a hair under Veteran) and Batting ( between Rookie+ and Veteran).

Bailey got his first Win, with hopefully many more to follow, he exited after 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 11.

Reds are on a 6 game road trip starting with 3 against the St. Louis Cardinals (0-3) after being swept by Cubs and then 3 against the Pittsburgh Pi-RATS (1-2) against Red Sox. SP Sonny Gray will start against the Cardinals.

In Minor League News, SP Robert Stephenson will get the Opening Day start for AAA Louisville Bats and SP Rookie Davis for AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

                              Finish the season out!

I've got about 35 games to go before the playoffs in Year 2.

                                Orioles 2nd year:

TWINS LOOKING TO CASH IN ON PINEDA'S BOUNCE BACK

The Twins are well out of the playoffs and after are shopping the 30 year old starting pitcher. After not having an ERA under 4.37 since 2014 and going 3-17 last season with a 5.56 ERA, Pineda is the strong leader for Comeback Player of the Year.
They got very luck with his return to dominance as now he is in the center of a trade market void of quality starters. Much less one with a 9-5 record and a 2.40 ERA. Pineda comes pretty cheap with a $4.6M salary and will be a free agent after the season.

Rumors are the Angels are pushing very hard for Pineda despite Tropeano being day to day. The addition of Tropeano and Pineda would push Alex Meyer to the pen and send rookie Osmer Morales back to AAA.
                                They have offered:
RP Keynan Middleton 25-72-B or 2B Jahmai Jones 21-66-B or 1B Matt Thaiss 23-69-B
or CF Jordyn Adamas 19-65-B or RF Brandon Marsh 21-64-B or
                                3B Taylor Ward 25-64-B + SS Luis Rengifo 22-65-C + SP Luis Pena 23-63-C

Middleton is 2-1, 1.84 and 31 K in 29 ip at AAA. Thias is hitting .293 with 14 HR at AA
Jones is hitting .220 at AA. Ward is hittin g.272 with 12 HR at AAA. Marsh is hitting .278 at AA.
Adams and Pena are at A

I think a straight up deal isn't good enough so it would cost 2 of these players in the deal.

Houston has inquired for Pineda but most think it's simply to keep him from the Angels.

One team that is serious is the Phillies. They have three starter on the DL. While Arrieta is due back next week and so is Pivetta, only Arrieta is going to join the rotation upon return. Pivetta going to be sent down because he has a 5.09 ERA and needs more seasoning. Nola is still 3 weeks away and with the Phillies at .500 their 3.5 game Wild Card deficit might be much worse if they wait for him to come back.
                                PHI offers:
                                RF Dylan Cozens 25-71-B .256 18hr (AAA)
                                RP Victor Arano 24-69-B 4.95 16k 20 ip (AAA)
SS Arquimedes Gamboa 21-65-B .196 (AA)
                                CF Mickey Moniak 20-65-B (A)
                                LF Adam Haseley 22-68-B .238 17hr 62 RBI (AAA)
SP Thomes Eshelman 24-69-B 4-12, 4.77 (AAA) has a shoulder tear, on DL for 2 months + RF Jiandido Tromp 25-65-C .259 (AA)

The Giants are in the playoffs as we speak but are looking to win the division and not just play a road Wild Card game. They need another starter to add to their top 3-4 rotation. They offer:
                                RF Sandro Fabian 21-64-B (A)
SP Jordan Johnson 25-70-C + SS Hoy Jun Park 22-59-C + CP Tanner Anderson 25-49-C
A relatively sad package for a stud starter. They must not be too serious.

They Yankees are interested simply because they are the Yankees and need to make a deal to stay in the news and ahead of the curve.
Someone better pull the trigger soon because the deadline is fast approaching.
                                Stay tuned...
