MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Unlike real life:
The Dodgers win the 2018 World Series!! I alternated between playing and quick managing my games in the playoffs since I was ready to get 2019 started. (I played 2 2018 season already this year) Dodgers took down the Indians 4 games to 2 after coming from behind when down by 2 games. Corey Seager was named the series MVP.
Off-season:
Dodgers Retiring:
Rich Hill
Ryan Madson
Pat Venditte
HOF: Albert Pujols
Major FA Signings:
Manny Machado to A’s
Bryce Harper to Orioles
Mike Moustakas to Angels
Dallas Keuchel to Cubs
AJ Pollock to Dodgers
Big blow to the Blue Jays not being able to resign Machado after trading me Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Cubs beat Cardinals 9-2 in Game 2 to tie NLCS 1-1.
Carlos Martinez was cruising along until the 6th when all the sudden the wheels feel off. A Jason Heyward bomb put the Cubs up 2-1 on the Cardinals, who scored early in the 1st inning on a Patrick Wisdom RBI single. The Cubs would rattle off 3 more runs in the 6th to go up 5-1 when all was said and done. But the Cubs weren't done. They added one in the 7th and two more in the 9th to go up 9-1. The Cardinals had bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th with no outs, but Matt Carpenter struck out pinch hitting for Carson Kelly. Kolten Wong hit a sac fly to make it 9-2, but then Kike Hernandez popped out to end the game.
The NLCS now shifts to Wrigley where Max Scherzer will take the mound for the Cardinals versus Jon Lester of the Cubs.
ALCS
The Twins won game 1 of the ALCS over the A's 3-1 to take an early 1-0 series lead.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

The Cardinals are heading to the NLCS
We beat the Dodgers 3-1 in Game 4 of the NLDS to clinch the series 3-1. We will face the Cubs in the NLCS. Mike Leake was absolutely masterful in this game throwing 7 no-hit innings. See the clinching Game 4 action below.

Just got to your last post, tied 1-1 in the Cubbies series, get it together man. Have a good long team meeting, can not let those Cubs back into it.Last edited by edeadstroke; 02-25-2019, 11:51 AM.Comment

Cardinals use long ball and dominant pitching to win Game 3 of NLCS
The Cardinals hit 3 solo homeruns, including back to back jacks on back to back pitches in the 4th inning, along with dominant pitching to beat the Cubs in Game 3 of the NLCS 4-0. Scherzer went 6 strong innings scattering 7 hits while striking out 8. Sam Freeman pitched the 7th and 8th innings allowing 1 hit and striking out 2, and Joe Kelly got a feel good outing pitching a perfect 9th inning striking out Bryant, Heyward, and Rizzo on 10 pitches.
Jon Singleton and Patrick Wisdom hit back to back homeruns on back to back pitches off of Felix Hernandez in the 4th to put the Cards up 2-0. Paul DeJong would add a RBI double later in the inning to make the lead 3-0. In the 6th, Patrick Wisdom would do it again with his 2nd homerun of the day, this time off Neil Ramirez.
Game 4 will feature Mike Leake for the Cardinals against Kyle Hendricks of the Cubs.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

2017 REDS FANTASY FRANCHISE
So Rocco and the Reds traveled to St. Louis for a 3 game series. The Reds (3-0) swept the Phillies in their home opener, while St. Louis (0-3) dropped all 3 against the Cubs.
RECAP: Started off against the Phillies with Dynamic Difficulty setting on lowest settings as I was just starting a new franchise team. Decided to bump the setting to All-Star in pitching and hitting. Oh boy, this has been tough for me.
GAME 1:
CIN - SP Sonny Gray vs. STL - SP Lance Lynn
The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 1 - 0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning, it would not be until the 7th when the Reds would tie it at 1 - 1. The Reds bats were surprisingly working as they got 10 hits, but the runs were hard to come by, the Reds were able to push 1 more run across in the 9th and managed to beat the Cardinals by a score of 2 - 1.
SP Sonny Gray went 7 strong innings in his Cincinnati debut, by giving up only the 1 run and striking out 9 batters. Unfortunately he did not get the win, the win was credited to SP/RP Brandon Finnegan for his 1 inning of work, while CP Jonathan Broxton earned his second save.
GAME 2:
CIN - SP Mike Leake vs. STL - SP Alex Reyes
This was a low scoring affair, I mean A REALLY LOW SCORING AFFAIR! Both pitchers were dealing in this one. Reds SP Mike Leake took the mound to face one of his former teams as he played for one of his former teams. Leake would pitch 7 innings of shut-out baseball, allowing 3 hits and striking out 9. Cardinal's Reyes kept the Reds scoreless for 7 and 2/3, allowing 4 hits and 8 strikeouts.
This game would not be decided until the 9th inning, with the lone run being scored. In the bottom of the 9th the Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz doubled to lead off the inning, CF Dexter Fowler would lay down a sac bunt moving Diaz to third. Then Cardinals power hitting 1B Matt Carpenter came to the plate...time to really pitch to the corners was Cincy's pitching coach, Derek Johnson, advice to RP Tony Cingrani during his mound visit. Cingrani made a down and away change up...and Carpenter...laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to perfection, Reds defense was caught way off guard and Diaz crossed home plate giving the Cardinals their first win of the season.
Manager Rocco Baldelli could only shake his head in disbelief when asked about the game winning play after the game.
GAME 3:
CIN - SP Matt Belisle vs. STL - SP Carlos Martinez
SP Matt Belisle would get the start in the rubber match, and would go 7 inning not allowing a run. He allowed 3 hits and struck out 7. SP Martinez matched Belisle through the first seven, but the top off the 8th allowed the Reds to score the first run of the game. Martinez was pulled with no outs. Card's RP Siegrist came in and kept the Reds scoreless. The Card's then tied it in the bottom of the 8th (1-1). Then both clubs decided to make it interesting...by playing extra innings. Both clubs got runners on and in scoring position but could not capitalize through to the 12th. Then finally the Reds, in the top of the 13th, scraped together a couple hits to score a run. CP Broxton came in in the bottom of the 13th to get a save. SP/RP Bronson Arroyo got the win after pitching 3 and 2/3 innings.
"Only thing keeping us in these games is our pitching", was Manager Rocco Baldelli's comment after the game.
The Reds venture to Pittsburgh to play the (2-4) Pi-RATS.
SIDE NOTE: I have put my 2017 Reds Actual Team on hold, as I have decided to go ahead and buy MLB 19 when it comes out. I was dead set against it, being disappointed by MLB 18, but after watching the dev stream on YouTube I changed my mind. Hope it is worth it. Fingers and toes crossed.Last edited by edeadstroke; 02-26-2019, 12:34 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
2017 REDS FANTASY FRANCHISE
So after a really close game 3 in St. Louis that went 13 innings, the boys had to head directly to the airport for their flight to Pittsburgh. Manager Rocco Baldelli mentioned to ownership that the guys were disappointed that they were not able to get to The Landing and had hoped to grab a good meal to celebrate. So ownership called up the Trainwreck Saloon and ordered Bison Burgers and hot wings for everybody and had it delivered right to the tarmac where the team's jet was waiting. This cheered them up a bit.
Game 1
CIN - SP Anthony DeSclafani vs PIT - SP A.J. Schugel
So the Reds did okay batting in St. Louis, getting a total of 24 hits, but could not score very well. Only scoring 4 runs total. This carried through to their first game against the 2 and 4 Pirates. Cincy managed to get 9 hits but only 2 runs. Pittsburgh only got 5 hits, but scored 3 runs. You can do the math, but no matter how the Reds did the calculations, they still lost Game 1.
SP DeSclafani gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning on a home run blast by SS Jung Ho Kang, DeSclafani would settle down and not allow another run and exited after 6 innings. RP Michael Lorenzen would also give up a homer in the 8th to Gregory Polanco. Down 3 to 1, the Reds attempted a comeback rally, but came up short only scoring 1 more run and leaving 2 runners stranded.
Game 2
CIN - SP Homer Bailey vs PIT - SP Ivan Nova
The Reds would jump out to a 1 to 0 lead in the top of the 3rd, but the Pirates would score 2 in the 4th to take the lead. And that would be the final score of the game, Pirates win 2 to 1 and take a Game 2 as well.
Game 3
CIN - SP Sonny Gray vs PIT - SP James Taillon
The Reds were in a really bad spot with the Pirates already owning the series, and possible being swept. Ownership was really hurting as there are two teams in our division we really, really despise...the Cubs and the Pi-RATS...but did not let on to the players the disappointment they were feeling.
The Brewers fell into the dislike column as well with the whole Braun thing.
So, even though St. Louis is an divisional foe, I can respect them.
Hoping not to be swept, a lot was riding on SP Sonny Gray. The Reds scored 3 runs in the 4th to take an early lead. WHAT A MIRACLE! But wait, after 3 scoreless inning by Sonny...he hit a speed bump. Things got real dicey in the bottom of the 4th, but somehow he escaped with only allowing 1 run. WHEW! The Reds would get that run back in the 6th, making the score 4-1 in favor of the good guys (THE REDS!). Gray would go 8 strong innings, allowing just the 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 12. CP Jonathan Broxton would come in in the 9th and record his 4th save and securing Gray's first WIN of the season. This eased ownership's pain just a little bit.
CF Drew Stubbs would go 3 for 4, 2 singles and a double, but 2 big RBIs, first baseman Joey Votto would go 1 for 4, but his 1 was a big homerun and his first of the year. This ALL-STAR batting is killing me inside. Sonny Gray would contribute as well with his bat, going 1 for 3 with a RBI and scoring a RUN.
The Reds are 6 and 3 and are heading back home for a 10 game home stand, 4 vs MIL, 3 vs BAL, and 3 vs the HATED Cubs. Hate might be a tad bit strong...nope! HATE! HATE! HATE!Last edited by edeadstroke; 02-27-2019, 03:39 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
2017 REDS FANTASY FRANCHISE
TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS...
Ownership and manager Rocco have decide to try something different, both feel it is a shame that there are some veteran players that are in Triple A that can play and be supportive bench players, but may be blocked by guys on the Major League team. These are guys who probably could make another big league team, but like being part of the Reds organization and want to be part of the new RED'S DYNASTY (Hopefully). Mostly of these guys have some sort of big league experience. These are guys that the ownership likes and wants to see them at least play a little bit in the BIGS.
So a plan to rotate supporting player through out the season, every 10 games or so, not just when a major league player gets injured. This plan was laid out to everyone and most seem to like it. There are a few who seem upset about the idea, we think their morale will come around during the season.
So in the first rotation, RP Logan Ondrusek, C Tucker Barnhart, 2B Jose Peraza and LF Aadam Duvall were sent to Triple A Louisville Bats for the next 10 days. And SP/RP Tim Adleman, C Ryan Hanigan, SS Paul Janish and CF Hernan Iribarren will join the Reds.
The idea too is the guys going down will get a little more playing time, keeping their pitches sharp and their bats loose. While the call ups get a little bit more experience in the big leagues and might not be such an adjustment if they are called up due to an injury.
That is at least the plan, ownership will be keeping a close eye on all aspects to see how it works out.
Did you hear that? Ownership is watching you...watching you.Last edited by edeadstroke; 02-27-2019, 02:31 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
The Marlins had an early scare when Boeve tried his new delivery. "Rib discomfort" pulled him out early in his first start with the new windup.
Since then, he's looked a lot like the Boeve of old.
He's 6-0 and every one of his stats are looking more like his peak years. His ERA went up to 2.32 after his latest 7 innings of two-run baseball that netted him a 7-2 winning decision.
As for the rest of his numbers:
WHIP? 0.83. Last time he had a WHIP down that low was in 2026 where he went 21-0 with a 1.73 ERA.
K's? 11.1 K/9. Again, a number not seen on him since 2026. (and still would be the 6th lowest mark in his career)
FIP? 2.13. If you guessed 2026, give yourself a Boeve baseball card. Incidentally, his FIP that year was 1.53.
While most everyone thinks the pressure is lessened with Boeve seemingly slowing down his decline, or at least adapting in spite of it, Mario Morales, the current Marlins ace, gave a different perspective.
"You don't know what it's like to know that the guy they basically worship is coming back with a vengeance and is right behind you. It's like he wants his number one starter spot back and I'm having to battle to keep proving I'm worthy of it, " Morales spoke.
"I mean, I'm happy for his success and, obviously, it makes our staff that much more fearsome, but it's not like 'oh hey, Boeve's owning again, we can just slack off.' If anything, it's like 'old man Boeve is still owning everyone, why aren't you young arms keeping up.' It's pressure, " Morales continued.
Already, the Marlins pitching prospects might be feeling this. Faltering Ricky Paris was sent off to the O's for raw catcher that's might have a good bat but is likely a huge question mark behind the plate. Chauncey Hogan was sent to AAA-New Orleans, likely to give "one last chance" to Huey Kiser. The Marlins might be feeling more free to deal some arms, especially if DaCosta continues to struggle.
"The Marlins might package a ready arm and other players for a true threat at second base and that's all because Boeve makes the top of their rotation be complete. Any thoughts of a bullpen move, making him a high-innings set-up man, any of that is gone right now. Morales, Boeve, Kane sounds absolutely nasty in any short series, " one scout commented.
All because Boeve never stops trying to get better. And oh by the way...his 4,000th strikeout is not out of the question this season.
"Year 14 is going to be my best yet...with more to come, " Boeve spoke after the game.
Marlins fans love the sound of that. Opposing hitters? Not so much.Last edited by KBLover; 02-27-2019, 04:17 AM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

White Sox Go Big For Playoff Push
July 31, 2019
The White Sox entered the day 3 games back of the Indians for 1st place in the AL Central. However, they know their pitching isn't up to snuff. They are going on in by trading two of their prized prospects for a legit Ace.
CHW GETS:
SP Chris Archer 30-87-B 2.98 145 k in 133 ip 1 more year at $7M
2B Adam Frazier 27-81-B .277, 7 HR plays all OF and INF positions. Final year at $650k
PIT GETS:
2B Nick Madrigal 22-77-A (AA) #13 prospect .258 9 HR
RF Blake Rutherford 21-70-B (AA) .282 17 HR how is he not ranked?
While the White Sox won the division last year for the first time in a decade, they did it by winning 81 games. They know if they aren't going to spoil the signing of Harper they need to add. They still have some talented SP in the minors but their time to win is now. With Moncada at 2B and Harper, Delmonico and Jimenez in the OF, they have plenty of young talent to the point they could afford to deal prospects.
The Sox are going to make a run at the division and they are going to need to be able to give the ball to a starter who can rise to the occasion. Archer gives them that option and Frazier gives them a vet bat and glove who can fill in at several positions.Comment

Boston Finally Makes A Deal For A Bat
July 31, 2019
It was all quiet on the Red Sox front until late last night when Boston finally struck a deal with Detroit. The Sox needed to get a 1B bat who can play OF with Jackie Bradley Jr. on the DL. For a long time it seemed as though they were OK standing pat. However, Mitch Moreland is just not cutting it with his .196 avg.
BOS GETS:
RF 1B Nick Castellanos
DET GETS:
LF Ramon Laureano + RF Lucius Pelletier
Detroit gets two young B potential prospects to help them in their rebuild. Boston had a few young pitchers to deal but Detroit seems content with the haul of arms they have and are now looking for pro level hitters.
With the Yankees not making any major moves, the Red Sox feel like they can chip away at the 7 game deficit and try to win the division.Comment

Astros Go Bold To Solve Catcher Issue
July 31, 2019
The Astros are looking to pull away in the division but have had a hard time doing so. They are having issues at the plate and behind the plate. Last season they went after Jonathon LuCroy at the deadline and let him walk in the off season. This year, they took a look at the depth in the organization and decided to go with after a player who is locked up for 4 more years.
HOU GETS:
C Slavador Perez 28-86-A signed for 4 more years
KC GETS:
RP Edgar Arrendondo 24-71-C+RP Thurman Nunez 21-65-B+ 3B Randy Cesar-Cesar 24-63-B
Many people suspected the Royals would deal RF Jorge Soler and his .310 / 22 hr / 66 rbi. However, the Royals sources are saying they wanted to deal Perez to free up money to sign Soler long term and build around him in their lineup. Soler seems willing to re-sign with KC and this move is likely the first step in those negotiations.Comment
