    Indians Winners In Realmuto Sweepstakes

    July 31, 2019

The Cleveland Indians are tying to hold off the charging White Sox and they knew they'd have to add offense to do that. After a year of flirting with Miami to acquire young, athletic catcher JT Realmuto. Perhaps the best young backstop in the game, Realmuto immediately adds veteran leadership as well as a big bat. Realmuto can also handle a staff well and the Indians were in desperate need for that.

    CLE GETS:
    C JT Realmuto 28-91-B + RF Isaac Galloway 29-70-C

    MIA GETS:
    SP Shane Bieber 24-78-B +
    1B Bobby Bradley 22-72-B +
    SS Yu Chang 23-68-B

The Marlins add a ready for the bigs starting pitcher as well as their first baseman of the future. Bieber could be the team's Ace in a few years and Bradley could win a batting title. Chang is a wild card for Miami but his versatility could add help to the big league club soon.

Twins Moves Set Them Up For Future

      July 31, 2019

In just a few short hours the Twins Farm System went from poor to pretty good. They struck deals with two NL East foes in an effort to jettison their older players and get younger. First, they made a deal with the the Mets.

      NYM GET:
LHRP Taylor Rogers 28-78-B + SS Chris Owings 27-71-C

      MIN GET:
      C Joel Latham 19-65-C + CF Desmond Lindsay 22-66-B

The Mets get help by adding a LH to their bullpen that only has a swing starter in it with Montgomery. Rogers has a 1.84 ERA and doesn't give up base runners. The Twins get solid prospects for their rebuild. A really good catcher in Latham as well as a sleeper prospect in Lindsay.

Next, they met with the Phillies and dealt them a front end starter.

PHI GETS: SP Michael Pineda + 1B Chase Headley

MIN GETS: CF Mickey Moniak + SS Arquimedes Gamboa + RP Jose Molina

Molina is a LH who was a 6th round pick. He has a 3.59 ERA and with a 64 STAM could start.
Moniak was the top pick for PHI in 2016 is 20-65-B and is A ball
Gamboa is hitting just .196 at AA but is 21-65-B.
The Twins get a package of potential while Philadelphia gets a stud starter and a 1B/3B. Headley is hitting .287 with 9 HR and is a switch hitter.

The Twins were able to net two potential all star OF, a quality catcher, a really good LHP and a project infielder. Even if only 1 of these players reaches their potential these were good deals for the Twins.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Update on my Reds franchise. We are offically through the first half of the season (game-wise), finishing at 40-41. As might be expected by that record, we have been up and down all season...but oddly, never more than 2 games +/- .500 at any one point (and 7 games out of first in the NL Central). This also marks the first time I have ever made it to the halfway point of the season on any version of MLB.....

Pitching is going downhill after a hot start (aside from a breakout season by Robert Stephenson who is 10-2 with a sub 3 ERA and solid work by Luis Castillo in only a handful of starts following an injury). The offense continues to be (quite literally) hit or miss; ranking in the top 5 in the NL in HRs while sporting a .233 team average. Votto has finally pushed his average into the .270s though with Suarez, Pollock and Gennett in the .260 range. Sore spots thus far have been Catcher and Shortstop and as we're hanging in the race, I am debating going for significant upgrades for at least one of those two positions. The farm system doesn't have a ton of attractive options at either spot.

There is a part of me that REALLY wants to go after Brandon Crawford. I'm a total sucker for elite defensive Shortstops and as his contract is prohibitive (he has a couple of years left on his deal), the Giants aren't asking for a ton. Wilson Ramos is on the block (as he was IRL last year) but I still believe in Barnhart and giving up prospects for a 3 month rental is less than appealing (but he'd be a nice addition). I did recently acquire Matt Duffy from the Rays to fill a reserve role and while I'd take a big hit defensively, might have to give him some reps at SS to try to get some offensive production there.

If I decide to play the "long game" and build for the future, I may wind up trading Scooter and possibly Pollock (though I REALLY want to re-sign him). I have a plethora of good-but-not-great relief pitchers and those are always in demand....I might try to see what we can get there. In all honesty, this is probably the route I will wind-up taking.

Interestingly, our September schedule is not all that daunting...and while that is REALLY looking ahead, I could foresee a scenario where we hold at .500 the next couple of months and posiiton ourselves for a WC run in September with the current roster.

Really enjoying how this narrative has unfolded....
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Cardinals take a 3-1 lead in the NLCS after winning Game 4

The Cardinals are one win away from the World Series after beating the Cubs 9-5 in game 4 of the NLCS at Wrigley.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning after Patrick Wisdom's 2 run homer. But the lead was short lived as Mike Leake struggled in the bottom half and the Addison Russell belted a Grand Slam to put the Cubs up 4-2. The Cardinals would get one back in the Top of the 3rd with Magnerius Sierra's RBI groundout, but Mark Zagunis would belt a solo shot in the bottom half to make it 5-3. The Cubs wouldn't score again.

The Cardinals got back to within one when Juan Fabregas hit a solo homer in the 7th to make it 5-4. The Cardinals would then explode for 5 runs in the 8th, kickstarted by Matt Carpenters solo homerun that tied the game. Patrick Wisdom would hit a 2 run bomb to make it 7-5 and put the Cards up for good. They would add 2 more runs on Kolten Wong's 2 run double.

Tyler Lyons would pitch the 8th and 9th to close out the game.

Game 5 is in Wrigley with Alex Reyes squaring off against Jon Lester.

            ALCS

The A's beat the Twins 2-0 in Game 3. Twins now lead the series 2-1.

In my big three-game series in Washington, we stormed back to take the final two games after losing the opener 6-1. Thames belted three more home runs over the final two games (4-2 and 6-3) to give him 40 for the year. He's now the favorite to win NL MVP. With 48 games to go, we're a half-game back of the division lead.

Folty and Anibal Sanchez have been nearly unhittable for me. And to think, I nearly released Sanchez earlier this season.

Unrelated, I've long been a staunch fan of NL baseball, but I'm strongly considering biting the bullet and implementing the universal DH in MLB 19.

When I started my franchise, knowing it was going to be a carry-over I did a universal DH. I was Orioles but knew I wanted to do DH for everyone.

With 30 team control I carry 13 position players and 12 pitchers for every team.

Orioles Rebuild Year 2: The Bottom...? 48-114

This was always going to be a rebuilding year but losing 114 games was a bit of a shock. We earned the first pick in next June's draft so that is a positive. We do have 4 prospects in the top 50. We had 1 young player in C Sisco win the Gold Glove Award. LHSP Marco Gonzales, whom we acquired in a deal with Seattle in 2018, won 10 games and had a 3.44 ERA. He is 27-81-C. RP Tony Zych, whom we acquired via the Rule 5 Draft, had 33 saves and a 3.72 ERA after not pitching in the Majors last year. SS Luis Sardinas 25-69-C hit .274, LF Trey Mancini 27-79-B hit 28 HR with just a .239 avg. RF Joey Rickard 27-74-B hit a respectable .258 with 12 HR.

We have a solid base of young players but they are going to take time to develop. Until then, it's going to be a bumpy ride in Baltimore.

                  AROUND THE LEAGUE

On the last day of the season the Giants have a 1 game lead over the Dodgers for the division. They actually play each other to end the season and Cueto out duels Buehler by throwing a complete game 3 hit shutout to capture the division crown. The Dodgers do get the 2nd Wild Card and will play at Cincinnati.

i need feedback from you guys. since harper has signed i was thinking of starting a franchise with the Mets on mlb the show 2018 and play one season (every game) and then purchase 19 hoping that the price is cheaper to carry it over. the reason is i dont feel 19 will be much different then 18 in franchise mode to pay $60 for. literally the only mode i play, i would love feedback, advise, tips, etc.

Orioles Rebuild Off Season Before Year 3:

The off season has ended and we are ready for spring training. Here is the running diary of the off season moves...

We have 77 players on the roster. I signed all the top free agents for teams that I felt were fair. There are the typical vets not signed heading into spring training. I will sign some when injuries / releases occur.

                        1-5-20
                        - We signed INF/C Isiah Kiner Falefa 25-76-C. In 2 seasons with TEX he hit .230 with 11 HR in 225 games. We got him because he can play defense. He is a 76 fielder with 74 arm 76 reaction and 79 durability. Mostly, we got him because he can catch if we need him to.

*This is one of the deals that I have been cautious of making. I'm trying hard to make the right deals for the right teams. There were several high potential C (including some A's) that I didn't sign as free agents. Instead, I signed them to teams who are rebuilding and need young catchers.

                        TRADE:
                        12-22-19
Miami is looking to bolster it's OF and has been in on Khris Davis and Michael Brantley. While they lost out of both, they decided to acquire one via trade. Today they sent
SP Zac Gallen to Houston for LF Josh Reddick. Reddick is 33-79-C and was looking for an everyday role after 2 years of being a platoon player. He is still a quality fielder and can hit the ball well to all fields. He will be the everyday LF in Miami.

                        Rule 5 Draft:
We have the first pick and there are just 8 players available. All of them are pitchers. We decided to take LHRP Ian Krol 28-70-C. You can't have too many LHRP

                        TOP FREE AGENTS:
                        SP

                        - Gio Gonzalez 34-84-B 14-10 2.2 220 ip. A solid LH who won double digits each year since 2010. 3 straight 200+ IP. Would be a solid fit at 3 or below for a contender. STL couldn't deal him at the deadline.
                        SIGNED W/ DET 2 years $18M

                        - Tyson Ross 32-79-C 12-9 4.11 175 IP. Doesn't eat innings but could be a solid 4.

                        - Cole Hamels 36-79-B 10-10 3.54 193 IP. Still effective, probably looking at his last deal. Would be a great vet for a young team or a back end guy on a contender.

                        - Michael Pineda 31-78-C 15-7 2.30 219 IP. Dealt from MIN to PHI, someone is going to have to believe he is the 15 game winner and not the 17 game loser he was the year before.

                        RP
                        -

                        CP
                        - Cody Allen 31-79-A 17 SV 101 K 84 IP Had 3 straight 30 SV seasons with CLE before becoming the set up guy.

                        - Miguel Chavez 23-64-A LH, not sure who drafted him or where he came from but he looks to be a top prospect.

                        C
                        - Alex Avila 33-79-C .240 24 HR 75 RBI

                        1B
                        - Jose Abreu 33-83-B .261 24 HR 96 RBI At least 25 HR every year, looking for a long term deal. SIGNED W/ TB 3 years $22M

                        - Kendrys Morales 36-79-A .269 25 HR 80 RBI Can play OF but is a DH really.

                        TOP EXTENSIONS:
LAD re-signed Bellinger and Buehler to 8 year deals
PHI re-signed Hoskins for 6 years

                        - I went through and offered the contracts for players and teams I thought she could their players. Goldschmidt and Bumgarner got Qualifying offers. I left the contract signing on auto so there have been some signings of minor league players as well as some MLB guys. I'm not sure who will be the top Free Agents this season but I'm hoping to continue my mission of making the teams equal. There were a lot of bad teams last season. I'd like Toronto, Detroit, Miami and San Diego to become contenders. I'm sick of the Yankees and Sox and winning 100+ games each season.

                        - The only Exclusive Free Agent for us is C Hank Conger 32-70-C. I'm going to let him go.

NO 2019 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES.

                        Retired:
                        - Jed Lowrie OAK - One of the things I hate is that guys like Lowrie retire just because he is 35. He's also 75-B and hit .268 with 18 HR in 147 games.

                        - Jon Lester CHC - 36-70-B went 11-10 with a 4.70 ERA. He's won double digit games every year sise 2013. I would have thought he'd take a short term deal with someone.

                        - Brett Gardner NYY - played in just 37 games

                          Cardinals are World Series Bound!

The Cardinals are heading to the World Series for the first time since 2013! The Cardinals defeated the Cubs 1-0 in Game 5 of the NLCS to clinch the series 4-1. The Cardinals lone run was a solo homerun by Juan Fabregas in the Top of the 7th breaking a scoreless tie. The bullpen would shut down the Cubs as Adam Cimber worked a perfect 7th, Roberto Osuna got thru a rocky 8th, and Trevor Rosenthal closed the game in the 9th on just 5 pitches.

Alex Reyes started the game and threw 5 shutout innings while also going 2 for 2 at the plate. Reyes was lifted for a pinch runner in the 6th after reaching on a single and then being moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Harrison Bader. Tyler Lyons pitched the 6th inning getting Heyward, Rizzo, and Schwarber to all strike out. Lyons was the winning pitcher.

The Cardinals will face off against the A's who came back from a 2-0 series deficit to defeat the Twins 4-2 in 6 games. The Cardinals have home field advantage due to having a better record than the A's by 2 games.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                            Orioles Rebuild Year 3
                            30 Team Control
                            Auto Draft except for Orioles.

With the #1 pick we have several options. As of June 3rd there are 8 Blue Chip prospects:
                            SP
                            Adam Gale 19-55-2024+
                            Barack Pullicin 20-65-2023
                            Sean Blair 22-60-2024+
                            Lewis Cody 20-55-2024+
                            Enrique Zambrano 19-55-2024+

                            C
                            Felipe Franco 21-50-2024+

                            2B
Marco Gonzalez 18-65-2022 High contact, decent glove and speed.

                            RF
Alex Hernandez 19-50-2024+ seems to be a BC due to speed ratings. Avg off ratings.

I have several young SP and a few young C so I think I'll be taking Gonzalez #1.

                            THE DRAFT:
                            - ROUND 1
Gonzalez comes out and we don't hesitate to take him.

                            - ROUND 2
After a Competitve Balance Round A that had 30 teams pick there aren't a lot of sure things there. We are looking at
3B Orlando Gonzalez 22-70-80-40%-'21 Can play OF. potential 75-80 con and 65-70 pwr, 80 vision, discipline and a good fielder

2B Jackie Kovalenko 20-65-80-65%-'22 Potential 75-70 con, 80 vision, stealing, decent fielding.

I take Kovalenko for his accuracy.

                            - ROUND 3

Orlando Gonzalez is still there so we go with him

                            - COMPETITIVE BALANCE ROUND B pick #7
LHRP Sam GLover 20-70-80-20%-'21 potential star

                            - ROUND 4
RF Robb Bowyer 20-70-70-'21-50% 80-75 con 80 speed and stealing

                            - ROUND 5
SP Mariano Rivas 22-70-80-'21-20% A long shot but could be a diamond in the rough. Has a potential 80 for control and stamina, brk, HR, and has a great sinker and slider.

                            RECAP:
"The Orioles Draft Grade is a B+. They picked up 3 potential All Star infielders. They likely will all end up in the OF somewhere but they got some good hitting. Glover, their LH pickup is a real sleeper. He has started in the past and could again but I seem them using him as an Andrew Miller type. 4 innings here, 1 batter there, 8th inning, 4th inning, 9th inning. I can't believe they got him that late. This kid Rivas is a real question mark but I know he throws hard."

2B Marco Gonzalez 18-68-99 Nearly ready for MLB pitching now will likely speed through the minors. His glove is an issue so he will likely be a LF when it's all said and done.

2B Jackie Kovalenkko 20-66-84 hits lefty and has a great eye already. At 6'4" he is likely headed for the OF as well.

3B/OF Orlando Gonzalez 22-64-87 A professional hitter. Has good plate vision and discipline and will likely be in the OF are at 1B.

LHRP Sam Glover 20-63-77 82 K rating due to his devastating slider.

RF Robb Bowyer 20-63-63 probably a roster filler but he can hit

SP Mariano Rivas 22-60-71 He throws hard (92 velo) and long (86 stam) just not very accurate. If he adds weight (6'0" 190lbs) he could be a real help long term.
