Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

A thrilling 11-10 victory over the Tigers finally ends a miserable 7 game losing streak that involved being swept by both the Blue Jays and the White Sox. The bullpen continues to struggle terribly and our platoon hitters Brandon Guyer and Dylan Cozens have both been awful.

What makes this worse is one look at our division and the insane lineups of the Yankees and Red Sox. Neither have lost anyone significant, but the Red Sox added Joey Gallo at first and Wilson Ramos at catcher, whereas the Yankees decided their bullpen was only ridiculously good instead of terrifying, so signed Andrew Miller, along with Mike Moustakis, to compliment last seasons big trades for Jose Abreu and Kevin Kiermaier. Both teams are ranked in the top 6 in the majors for all categories except speed and genuinely couldn't be much better.

Meanwhile the mighty Rays, not so much...

EDIT Another blown save, another bullpen loss. That's the last straw, we've signed 42 year old Fernando Rodney to see if he has any of that 2012 magic left in him

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

We lost the opener of a 3 game series to the Rays 4-2, extending our losing streak to 3 games and we've now lost 7 of our last 10. We are now 2 games behind the Reds for the Central division crown.

And with this loss we have made our first re-evaluation move of the season. It may be a shocking move, but we have dealt Stephen Vogt, who we signed in the offseason to be our everyday catcher, to the Red Sox for prospects.

Vogt is hitting .165 on the year with 1 homerun, 5 RBI and isn't doing a good job in controlling the running game. Carson Kelly is hitting near .400 in Memphis so he will be brought back up to be our everyday catcher with Francisco Pena at the moment being the backup.

The re-evaluation moves may continue as we are actively shopping Marwin Gonzalez. Another signing that isn't panning out and the guy he replaced, Aledmys Diaz, is hitting .320 in Memphis and is a far better defender than Gonzalez. I thought Gonzalez would provide an offensive boost over Diaz, but that hasn't happened.

I typically don't moves like this prior to June, but I'm tired of waiting for the switch to come on with those two guys and a few others. Zach Britton did turn things around today after being inactive for 5 days by striking out 3 while pitching 2 innings. He allowed no hits and no walks. Maybe a brief break, and removal from the set up role will help him find his groove once again.

So Vogt is gone and Gonzalez is more than likely out the door as we search for the best possible deal. With Gonzalez though, the market seems quite weak and we may just end up DFA'ing him and seeing if he is claimed. He's on a one year deal and the BoSox trade returned some decent prospects, so I don't see what value Gonzalez would bring.

Re-evaluation in hopes of re-tooling in hopes of finding that spark that will boost us above .500 and back to the top of the standings in the Central.

And just like that, before signing out for the night, Marwin Gonzalez has been dealt to the Yankees for a prospect infielder. Yankees now have their everyday SS as they were seeking one.

Aledmys Diaz is brought back up to the majors where he actually belongs in our organization. He'll serve as a valuable backup to all 4 infield positions and he can play the outfield.

These may be knee jerk reactions, but I'm sitting here looking over my roster and I'm actually quite pleased with the way it looks. A little more balance with guys not being forced in the minors. The outfield and starting pitching is still log-jammed but those positions will be sorted out as we use that depth to make moves at the deadline if need be, or even in the offseason.

We will continue though to look at our re-evaluation process and see what we may need to do. Jon Jay/Jeremy Hazelbaker come to mind as guys who may need new homes once Magnerius Sierra returns from the DL around the break.

          Re-evaluation in St.Louis.

            Updated my Tigers page again:

57-16 after a sweep of the White Sox. Central lead is up to 8 full games on the Indians now. Two game set in Cincinnati, followed by three games in Cleveland.

Every roster move I have made so far seems to be golden. Purchased the contract of left handed hitting catcher Pat Lemmon to platoon with James McCann. In six games, Lemmon is hitting .333 with two home runs and six RBI.

I need an option for auto save after every day. Hopped on to ge the offseason out of the way. Made it all the way to the end of February and was putting some guys on teams that I thought were good enough last year to get a contract. Started moving to fast and ended up going to the main menu. Turns out I never even saved after last night so im back to the end of September. Im going to play Far Cry now.

MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I’ve always been a franchise player, but have to say this year has been the most enjoyable.
Currently 11-13 in my Giants franchise. Getting better after a 4-9 start.
Pitching has been solid. Hitting still struggling along in the bottom 5 in most categories.
Posey has been good all year hitting .360.
Belt terrible hitting .130 - just can’t seem to get anything going with him.
A couple of long term injuries to Panik and Blanco has forced us to dig into the minors early.

3 game series coming up against LA now.

Quick question to all you franchise players. Do you guys use sliders or leave it on default and do you guys use auto fielding or do your own fielding?

I've switched to auto fielding this year and it's made a huge difference. The AI fielding is just so much more realistic than you can do with controlling it yourself. They attack the ball properly, they turn double plays properly, they jump and dive properly and also, hugely importantly, you get throwing errors so your fielders ratings actually matter a lot.

As for sliders, it's a bit dangerous as once you start tweaking them it's seriously hard to settle on anything! But some of the sliders simply need changing (fielder reactions, fielders speed, pitcher control, trade and injuries sliders etc). I'd personally recommend trying to leave the hitting sliders alone as much as possible, as they are the ones that you end up constantly fiddling with. After 20 games with the same hitting sliders for you and the computer, then you can maybe make adjustments

I actually just started 5 different franchises 3 teams have pretty good farm systems in the phillies, Braves, and Padres and the other two are what people would call power houses in the Cubs and Yankees but with the Cubs and Yankees I play them to set them up for after 2021 seeing as that's when most of the team will either need to move on or get paid big money its a lot of fun and they are all separate so I never get board or collide together lol

Side note: Our most recent game was against the Giants as I just said and they had lefty Madison Bumgarner on the mound. We knocked him around early and he ended up getting replaced in the 5th I think for another lefty. A couple innings later after we scored even more runs they bring in another lefty. I've seen this trend three times now since playing this game that a team has brought in more lefties after the starting pitcher who is a lefty had a hard time with our all right batting lineup. I dont get it. Anyway....

On the young season both our pitching and hitting has been way better than I expected. The Padres dont have the strongest pitching staff/bullpen and that's really an understatement but I've gotten some really good performances from Tyson Ross (4-0, 26 SO, 2.25 ERA, 1.29 WHIP), John Lackey (3-0, 29 SO, 3.16 ERA, 1.29 WHIP), Henderson Alverez (3-0, 16 SO, 0.42 ERA, 0.88 WHIP), Dinelson Lamet (2-1, 26 SO, 3.50 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) and Scott Kazmir (1-0, 11 SO, 3.38 ERA, 1.45 WHIP). The bullpen has been pretty solid too with closer Brad Hand with 6 saves so far and Trevor Rosenthal not surrendering a single earned run so far this season. Carter Capps has also impressed me with his 13 strikeouts, 1.13 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.

On the hitting side of things, we are led by guys like Wil Myers (16 GMS, 17 HITS, 14 RBI, 3 HRS, .333 AVERAGE), Jose Pirela (16 GMS, 18 HITS, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 2 SB, .300 AVERAGE), Eric Hosmer (15 GMS, 20 HITS, 1 HR, 7 RBI, .370 AVERAGE), Mark Trumbo (15 GMS, 20 HITS, 7 HR, 19 RBI, .345 AVERAGE), Manuel Margot (14 GMS, 18 HITS, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 4 SB, .333 AVERAGE) and Yasmany Thomas (11 GMS, 10 HITS, 2 HR, 11 RBI, .357 AVERAGE).

And then we have rookies Miguel Estrella who has 15 hits, 3 homers, 7 RBI and a .278 average in 24 games and Joaquin Dorin with 7 hits (all timely hits when we really needed them), 8 RBI and a .368 average in 5 games played. Exciting stuff. Was thinking I would probably get rid of some guys by seasons end up if this team can continue to grow, win at a good clip and potentially make a playoff push I may just stick with the roster as is (with a couple tweaks) and see if I can really build something here. Hitting, pitching and throwing are all on all star btw with the only slider change being my fastball and pitch speeds raised both to 7.

Were Estrella and Dorin just random young players in Free agency? Because on my save with OSFM 1.5 40 Man rosters there are a few randomly created young players with B and A potential and I am not sure if I should sign them because they are just randomly created haha.
