Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

End Of July Update in my Yankees Franchise.

We sit at 73-34. Boston has slipped as they are now 7.5 games behind. Everyone else is 19+ games out. Sanchez and Judge continue to destroy the ball with Sanchez Hitting 316 with 39 HR’s. Judge is hitting 317 with 35 HR’s. Stanton has 40 HR’s but only a 258 AVG. Made one last deal, shipping Ellsbury to Miami for SP Zac Gallen and CF Brian Miller. Austin was brought back up to take his spot. Hicks is on the bench as a backup OF and Austin can play the corner outfield if needed.

The deadline has passed, here are the other trades: Indiana Trade Danny Salazar to the Brew Crew for Domingo Santana. Fills a need for both teams.

Angels acquire Justin Bour from Miami for SS Kevin Maitan and SP Griffin Canning.

Astros acquire JT Realmuto for RF Kyle Tucker and SP Cionel Perez. Houston needed a good C, Gattis had been horrible for them all season batting an ugly 192.

Nationals Acquire Nate Jones from the White Sox for SP Seth Romero and and 2B Luis Garcia. Nationals were in need of a good bullpen arm for their postseason run as usual.

This lineup has been pretty crazy so far with the additions of Machado and Abreu. Started by dropping 9 on Tampa in 9-6 victory. Then went on to completely destroy KC. Game one they were obliterated in a 13-2 Yankees win. Game 2 they lost to us 5-1. Game 3 we won 8-3. Then we battered them again in the finale with a dominating 14-2 win. Oof. 40 runs scored against them in one series. Someone call the police, their was a brutal killing spree in New York. R.I.P Royals pitching. Then an off day apparently ruined our hot streak as we dropped the final game of July 3-4 to Baltimore.

Sanchez still leads the MVP race with Judge and Stanton right behind him. Severino has entered into the CY Young race with a 2.80 ERA but has Sale and Carrasco in front of him. Sanchez has taken over the lead for the Hank Aaron Award from Altuve.

Notes from around the league: AL Wild Card teams are currently the Red Sox and Astros.

NL Wild Card Teams are the Diamondbacks and Rockies.

Nationals and Cubs both running away with it in the East and Central.

Diamondbacks and Rockies both making a run at the Dodgers and in hot pursuit with Arizona lurking at 4.5 games out and Colorado 5 games out.

Royals keeping it close enough in the Central at 5 games behind Cleveland. To this point Cleveland’s play has been the weakest out of all the division leaders.

Angels somehow still have a nice gap between them and Houston. Astros trail the Angels by 5.5 games while everyone else is over 10 games out. Thought it’d be the other way around by now with Houston leading the division over the Angels by a decent bunch. Becoming convinced that the Angels will actually take the West.

Verlander Vs Sale Wild Card Game anyone?

Just finished an 18 innings 1 run marathon with my Padres coming out on top. I couldn't hit anything their pitchers were throwing and when I did I left what seemed like 20 runs on base. I had tons of chances to win this game in regulation as did the Athletics it neither team could come through until Jose Pirela walked it off with a solo HR in the bottom of the 18th. Gotta love this game!

Updated my page again, following a 3 game sweep of the Indians in Cleveland.

Tigers lead in the A.L. Central is now up to 10 games,on June 25th, largest lead of the season. Four game series with Oakland at Comerica Park up next, followed by four games in Toronto, and two in Chicago against the Cubs.

61-17 record, while playing every inning of every single game, no simming. Hall of Fame default hitting, Legend Default pitching.

            Notable MLB Stats

Charlie Blackmon wins the batting title hitting .339 with 35 HRs and 113 RBIs

Only five hitters reached the 40+ HR mark this season as Freddie Freeman (42 hr, 109 rbi), Jake Lamb (41 hr, 108 rbi), Aaron Judge (43 hr, 93 rbi), Nelson Cruz (42 hr, 105 rbi) and Carlos Correa (40 hr, 121 rbi)

Domingo Santana took home the NL Mvp with a massive breakout year hitting .292 with 35 homers and 138 RBIs, Freddie Freeman and Max Scherzer (18-8, 2.85 ERA, 268Ks) were the runner-ups.

Nelson Cruz took home the AL MVP with a great line of .328 42 HRs and 105 RBIs, a great season for the upcoming FA. Carlos Correa and Edwin Encarnacion (.319 AVG, 37 HRS, 113 RBIs) were the runner ups.

The Cy Young Winners were Max Scherzer in the NL and Carlos Carrasco (16-5, 3.01 ERA 222Ks) in the AL.

Chris Devenski took home the AL Reliever of the year award with an incredible season totalling 50 saves and replacing Ken Giles as the Houston Closer. Devenski (2-0, 0.18 ERA, 47Ks, 50 SV) had one hell of a season only allowing 1 run in 50.2 IP this season. Runner-ups Roberto Osuna and Brad Hand also reached the 50 save mark for their respective AL clubs.

Kevin Quackenbush took home the NL Reliever of the year award with a 1.20 ERA and 46 saves in 52.2 Innings pitched on the season. Runner-ups were the previous reigning and two time defending NL Reliever of the Year Kenley Jansen (47 Saves, 1.91 ERA, 55Ks) and Cardinal Closer John Brebbia (45 Saves, 2.01 ERA, 64Ks).

Shohei Otani (13-8, 2.94 ERA, 207Ks) and Austin Meadows (.276 AVG, 14 HR, 52 RBI) took home rookie of the year honors in the AL and NL.

The postseason should be interesting but here in San Diego, we are looking towards the off-season and seeing what will happen. Will the Padres make major moves in Free Agency or the Trade Market or will they stand pat and continue the youth movement going into 2019?

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Padres once again will be viewers of Postseason baseball as they will watch the other teams contend for the WS title and they start to shift focus to the upcoming offseason.

The Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays edged out wildcard wins sending them to the divisional rounds. Neither team's playoff run lasted much longer after that as the Jays were eliminated by the Astros in 4 games. The Cubbies were eliminated in 4 by the Washington Nationals. On the other side of the divisional round, we saw the Colorado Rockies take on the Milwaukee Brewers and cruise to a 3-1 series win sending them to the NLCS for a matchup with the Nats. In the American League, the AL East division winners the NY Yankees were swept in 3 games by the Cleveland Indians. This set up a Indians vs Astros matchup in the ALCS. Ultimately, the defending champs prevailed taking out Cleveland in 6 games. Washington vs Colorado was a back and forth series and Bryce Harper sealed the NLCS with a Solo homer and 3 RBI to close out the Rockies in a game 6 shutout for Stephen Strasburg.

This set up a Astros vs Nationals World Series, one that would very thrilling for fans. Houston would take game one 8-7, although Washington would not go down without a fight as they put up two in the 9th to bring it to a one run game, but reliever of the year Chris Devenski shut them down. Game two was much of the same with Houston taking it 7-5 and once again washington tried to rally with two in the but were still shut down once again for the second straight night. It was a long ball kinda night for Houston with Alex Bregman launching two of his own and was joined by George Springer and Kyle Tucker. The series shifted to Washington for Game three and behind 8 innings of shutout ball from Lance McCullers, the Astros were able to take a decisive 3-0 lead. Down 3-0 in the series, some might expect to Nationals to give up without a fight. That was not the case in the slightest as Bryce Harper went 4-5 with 3 homers and 7 RBIs to give the Nationals a 11-3 win and keep hope for a WS title. The Astros bats remained hot in game 5 as they pounded out 20 hits en-route to a 10-3 win and their 2nd straight WS title. Evan Gattis and Carlos Correa both homered and drove in 3 in the clinching game to secure the title. Alex Bregman was named WS MVP with 3 HRs and 8 RBIs and his teammate Kyle Tucker was named Postseason MVP with a .321 AVG 2 HR and 16 RBIs during postseason baseball.

                Overview

We made one HUGE move for trading for Michael Conforto who was on the block to boost up our outfield. He was struggling with the Mets but has been phenomenal since joining our team. He is third on the team in BA (.296) and first in HR and RBI (8) and (20)

We are first in the league in team batting average (.299) second behind us is the Astros at .287. We are 6th in runs (148) first in hits (310), 3rd in doubles (56), 1st in triples (16) and 1st in HR (47)

Pitching has definently been our weak point we are 23rd in ERA (4.55), 30th in hits allowed (323), 21st in runs allowed (136) although we haven't given up too many HR as we sit at 9th with 26.

I don't know what to do to be more successful in defense sometimes it seems that if I don't get a perfect release (HOF METER PITCHING) the ball routinely winds up in the middle of the plate. Even if not, the cpu hits good pitches just as well the majority of the time.

We lost Yoan Moncada for 1-2 months in the last game of April with a broken leg. Jose Rondon (65 OVR SS) was called up after the injury.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

And the re-evaluation trend continues in St.Louis. As the calendar is a few days shy of flipping to June, the Cardinals have yet made another move. This time, sending Zach Britton back to Baltimore for 3 prospects (2 relief pitchers and catcher). This marks the 4th trade for the Cardinals this year and the 3rd trade of a guy signed by the Cardinals in the off-season. Marwin Gonzalez was dealt to the Yankees, Stephen Vogt was shipped to Boston, and now Zach Britton has been sent to the Orioles. Mike Leake was traded earlier in the season, after not getting dealt as expected in the off-season, to the Padres.

Zach Britton who was signed to be the 8th inning guy, then was removed due to ineffectiveness and placed as a middle reliever, was traded after his latest blow up allowing the Diamondbacks to come from behind to beat the Cardinals in walkoff fashion as he was unable to close out a game that the Cardinals had in hand and were counting on him due to the bullpen being worn out. Zach Britton at the time of the trade had a record of 0-2, had allowed 5 homeruns, and has an ERA just shy of 10.

With the sendoff of Britton, Kevin Siegrist has been brought back up from Memphis where he was working out his early season kinks and then was pitching after spending time on the DL with elbow issue.

3 big signings for the Cardinals this offseason and not even a full 2 months into the season, they are all playing on different teams.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Texas Rangers Update- Season 1 MOM

What a turn around. Is it to late? probably. As we near the end of July the Rangers are now 8 games under 500 and no longer in last. We sit 12 games out of first and 9 out of the Wild Card. Compare that to the end of June when we were dead last in the AL and 20 1/2 games out. We dealt Deshields and Diekman and in return we got allot. Deshields got us Chacin and Knebel from the Brewers and Diekman landed us Goody and Rajai Davis. Davis leads the AL in steals with 33 at the end of July and Knebel has 32 saves already. I still think there is a problem with lack of injuries. I have slider at 8 for played MOM games and 6 for sim. I get injuries in the Minors but played games yield very little. 4 in all and they have been minor

                      Team Break down

C- Chirinos sent down and now its Nicholas and surprising Jose Trevino both playing well
1b- Gallo has been terrible. He is hitting 175 with 6 HR's through 104 games.
2b- Odor- Solid season. Hitting 255 with team leading 21 HR's
SS- Elvis- 299 hitter. Solid across the board
3B- Adrian- The HOF continues to click hitting 17 HR's
LF- Choo- 235- really nothing special
CF- Leody Tavaras- Blistering start as he was named Rookie of the month in April. Full time playing time has him down in the 230's now. He is only 19
RF Mazara- Terrible start in April and half of May but is now a 270 hitter with solid power numbers

                      Pitching
                      1. Hamels- Terrible year ERA sitting at 5.4
                      2. Volquez- OK 4.9 ERA
                      3. Chacin- Great trade leads team with a 2.9 ERA and 11 wins
                      4. Fister- Up and down year ERA at 4.5
                      5. Jon Niese- Jury is out. Called him up after he tore it up in AAA.

Perez and Minor were both sent down

The Mets have fallen back to Earth after their amazin' start to the season. May hasn't been kind to New York, with the team losing five of its last seven games. Despite a 10-game and an 8-game winning streak, the Mets are only 4 games ahead of Washington for the NL East lead.

                            I hope so.

I swear there is some underlying team chemistry built into this game. Gonzalez and Vogt gone, we immediately go on 4 game winning streak until its snapped by another Zach Britton blow up.

We've hit better and pitched better, outside of Britton, since those two trades. I know its probably 98% a coincidence, but I wonder.

I started a Seattle franchise and traded Segura, Paxton and Healy for Machado. A big price I know. I love the pressure of trying to win now with Manny. And if I am out of contention at the deadline I can get a nice haul of prospects to start the rebuild.

I started off the year 1-5 but have won 3 in a row. The lack of pitching depth has really been tough to overcome.

Started an Angels franchise a couple days ago. It’s not going well. Decided to role with the angels mainly because Ohtani and the pretty good centre fielder they have. I’ll probaby play most of the games but I’ll most likely sim/quick mange some.

I’m currently 3-8... not the best start. We got swept by the A’s in the opening series. They smashed our pitching really bad. Got out scored 16-39 in the four game series. Our hitting wasn’t too bad but the bullpen blows. Ended up signing three free agents- Adam Lind, Mark Lowe and Tony Zych. Signed Zych after the A’s series and sent down Middleton to AAA. I had Bridwell as my long man but he gave up 8 runs within two games... he got sent down and called up Shoemaker who had a rough spring and started the year in AAA he has been really good so far. The starters have been meh but nobody has done bad enough to get send down. The bullpen is stable now but definitely not great, but better than the beginning of the year.

The hitters have had a slow start. I signed Lind to have a platoon with Chris Carter at first base. I traded valbuena to Colorado for some reliever who I ended up releasing. I use Ohtani at DH except the day after he starts and sometimes against LHP. Pujols doesn’t play much as he is the guy who I usually start at DH and then replace him with Ohtani in game.

I definitely want more production at first base. I’m looking at Brandon Belt or Justin Bour to acquire in a trade. I like Belt more because he is the better fielder. The good thing is that I’m not attached to any of the prospects really, the only one I want to keep is Adell. I’ll most likely add some good relief pitching later on and maybe a starter. Other than that I think the team will turn it around. (I hope so anyway!)
