Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Trades are coming fast and heavy here in July.

Besides us going after Roberto Osuna, the Reds countered with their own blockbuster deal.

    Reds get:

    SP Chris Archer

    Rays get:

    SS Eugenio Suarez
    3B Nick Senzal

    Other trade:

    Padres get:

    SP Ricky Porcello

    Red Sox get:

    3B Yangervis Solarte

Padres have Manny Machado and have been trying to trade Solarte since May. Red Sox lost Pablo Sandoval for the year earlier in season and have been trying to fill gap at 3rd base with different players. Finally settled on trading for Solarte. They are 7+ back of Orioles for division lead.

July is on fire right now!

Had the weirdest thing happen to me in my Cubs franchise. We won 103 games just like in 2016 and meet the Indians in the world series just like in 2016 and just like in 2016 it went 7 games and we won again on November 2nd........it was crazy

What's your strategy or guide line for guys due for arbitration. How do you know when you offer it or just offer multi year deals.

            OVERVIEW

Our record has steadily improved, however, we are still 6.5 games back fmof the Indians. We do lead the wildcard race but it sure would be nice to over take them.

Michael Conforto went down fractured arm a few days after the draft. He and Avisail Garcia are still slated to miss another 3-4 weeks. We did call up last years first round selection in hopeful futurestar Johnny Shinjo (78 OVR A POT 18 YR OLD) His first few weeks in the MLB have not been very good (112 AB .170 AVG 2 HR 5 RBI). He may be sent back down once the other two return barring any further long term injuries to the outfield.

You had to strengthen your closer position. Your in a pennant race, so you went all in. Good luck my friend.

And we may not be done. The Royals are making Kelvin Herrera available again. Not sure how I would fit that into our current bullpen:

                LEFTIES

                Tyler Lyons
                Sam Freeman
                Kevin Siegrist
                Dean Kiekhefer

                RIGHTIES

                Jordan Walden
                Trevor Rosenthal
                Roberto Osuna

But my thought would be that if I choose to pursue this, that Kevin Siegrist would go back to Memphis or be involved in the trade, although I don't want to lose the lefty. Walden, Rosenthal and now Osuna are not going anywhere, despite Rosenthal's struggles. I think my bullpen is a bit out of balance with too many lefties although they can pitch to right handed hitters, I feel as though I need to keep 4 righties and 3 lefties in the pen, as that is my norm (or 5 and 2).

Really debating this one. Osuna was easy because Farqhuar has struggled all year. This one involves moving a lefty to Memphis and all 4 are pitching fairly well, especially of late.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

After winning 5 straight the Rangers have lost the first 2 games of a 4 game series to an even hotter Seattle team who had won 4 straight and 9 out of 10.

First game was pretty tight but the bullpen could not hold the lead and we ended up losing 6-4. Game 2 was a 1-0 affair up until the 5th inning when Matt Moore gave up a grand slam to Nelson Cruz and then decided to give up the back to back allowing a solo shot to Cano. Cano would add a 3 run bomb later to add to the misery as the Mariners cruised to a 12-0 victory. Cano and Cruz had 10 RBI combined on the evening. Could not keep Dee Gordon off the base paths either, he had 2 infield singles and stole 3 bags in the process including 3rd on a double steal.

Rangers are 26-32 on the season.

I have a second Yankees franchise going on. We got eliminated in the wild card game by the Angels. After a disappointing season I’m looking to make a splash in free agency. We have two main targets: Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. We will pay whatever it takes, and how many years it will take.

We can have Stanton, Judge, and Harper all alternate as a DH while the other two play in the corners.

Machado can just slide in effortlessly at 3rd.

Should I go for Machado or Harper? Your opinions are appreciated.

We have lost 3 straight as we were swept by the Yankees. Our bullpen, primarily Rosenthal, blew 2 games in the series. Due to this latest meltdown and season of struggles, we have sent Rosenthal down to Memphis to see if he can't work things out. We have 3 games before the All-Star break and then the break itself, so we'll most likely bring him back up afterwards, providing he gets the job done down there.

In the meantime, John Brebbia has been called up to St.Louis for the next week or so.

We are 42-46 and still 4 games behind the Reds.

Next up is the final series before the break as we are in Toronto for a 3 game series.

Hey guys, theses have all been very interesting to read. I need some help. I currently have a catty over save with my blue jays and it’s chaos as I don’t keep it realistic at all! I’m looking to start a new franchise with an NL team to try out the new high end rookies that are real in this years game, as well as, new players I didn’t use in my jays franchise.

I’m thinking about the d backs, cardinals or pirates. Having trouble playing with anyone but the jays but I don’t want to start a new one with The same team

At September 4th in my Yankees franchise. We are 88-50, tied for the most wins in baseball with the Cubs and Nationals. We lead the MLB in HR’s by a strong 40 with 250 HR’s as Baltimore is in second with 210. In first place with Boston 6.5 games behind. They still have a chance at clawing their way into first place before it’s all said and done if they can get hot and a bit of luck such as us dropping some games. They still get to see us 6 more times. Got 2 more in Oakland, 3 in Seattle, 3 in Minnesota, 3 at home vs Toronto, 3 at home vs Boston, 3 at home vs Baltimore, 4 on the road in Tampa, then 3 at Fenway to end off of the year.

Shouldn’t be a very tough month except for the 6 vs Boston, Jays and Boston are the only teams that are over 500 in that mix. The MVP Race is somehow still being dominated by all 3 Yankees, Sanchez, Judge, and Stanton in that order. Judge is in the race for the batting title but unfortunately Altuve is being typical Altuve hitting an insane 357 with 27 HR’s. Somehow Eduardo Nunez is second over Judge even though his AVG is barely any better at 328 compared to 324, has a TON less HR’s, and a TON less RBI’s. Boston bias much? Judge and Sanchez are chasing Trout for the Hank Aaron Award. Disagree with Trout leading it over Judge, Judge is having a slightly better season then Trout in every category except SB’s.

Judge, Sanchez, and Stanton are all going off this year. Judge is hitting 324 with 47HR’s and 116 RBI’s. Sanchez is hitting 315 with 51 HR’s and 120 RBI’s. Stanton is hitting 265 with 50 HR’s and 123 RBI’s. Jose Abreu has chipped in nicely since coming over from Chicago hitting 271. Rosters have now expanded, the reinforcements arriving from the minors as their seasons have ended with them missing the playoffs are: Tyler Wade, Kyle Higashioka, Miguel Andujar, Gleyber Torres, Luis Cessa, The Dark Knight Matt Harvey, and Jonathan Holder. Billy McKinney would have been joining them too coming off a solid AAA season batting 282 with 11HR’s but unfortunately near the end fractured his shin ending his season early.

Interesting notes from around the league: Division races around the league are already a bit quiet, Boston has a slight chance in the East, Twins are 7.5 out in the Central, that race is likely over. Astros are just 4 behind LA but the Angels have had control of the West for a long time. AL Wildcard race is over, everyone is 10+ back. Whoever finishes second in the East and West will play the wildcard game. Nats are blowing everyone out in the NL East up by 16+, Cubs are blowing out the Central up by 11+.

All eyes are descending upon the NL West with a fierce 3 team battle underway in the final month between LA, Rockies, and Arizona. Dodgers are 0.5 games behind the Rockies for first with Arizona trailing by 1.5. The NL WildCard is a battle between the 2 future NL West losers and the Brew Crew.

The 2018 Red Sox take home the World Series.

In the ALDS the Red Sox faced the Oakland Athletics, who beat the Twins in the Wild Card Game.

Game 1 was a 3-2 victory in 12 innings with a walk off homer by Eduardo
                                Nunez.

Game 2 was a 6-1 win powered by 2 Red Sox homers.

Game 3 was a 2-0 shutout win to secure the ALDS sweep with Eduardo Rodriquez going 7 scoreless and Benintendi providing a solo homer.

In the ALCS we faced the Cleveland Indians, who beat defending World Series Champion Astros in the ALDS.

Game 1 was 5-0 shut out win for the Red Sox with Chris Sale going 7 shutout innings.

Game 2 was 2-1 win for the Indians in a pitching duel between David Price and Carlos Carrasco.

In game 3 we came from behind to win 6-5 after Rodriguez gave up 4 runs through 4.1 innings. We trailed 5-3 going into the 9th up against Andrew Miller who tied for AL Lead in Saves but our offense put up 3 against him to take 6-5 lead for the other AL Co-League Leader in saves Craig Kimbrel who shut the door to secure the win.

Game 4 we take another close game 5-4. Porcello struggled giving up 4 runs in 3 innings but our bullpen shut door the rest of the game and our offense did just enough.

Game 5 we shut Indians out again 2-0 to clinch the ALCS, with Chris Sale with 7 shutout innings to clinch the ALCS.

In the World Series we faced the 2016 Champion Chicago Cubs who beat the L.A. Dodgers in the NLDS and the New York Mets in the NLCS.

Game 1 was a 3-2 Chicago victory with homers from Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez for the Cubs.

Game 2 we rebounded to come from behind to beat the Cubs 7-3 thanks to a 4 run 8th inning off capped off by a Swihart 3 run homer.

Game 3 seemed like it didn't want to end as the Sox take a 2-1 series lead with a 3-1 victory in 17 innings!

Game 4 was a 4-1 Red Sox victory to take demanding 3-1 Series lead.

Game 5 was a lot closer than the 9-2 Sox victory to Clinch the World Series appeared. Was a 2-2 ball game going into the 8th inning where Jackie Bradley Jr took Shae Simmons deep for a 2 run homer to take 4-2 lead into the 9th inning. Cubs brought in their closer Brandon Morrow to try to keep it a 2 run game but the Red Sox offense had other ideas as they put a 5 spot on him including a J.D. Martinez Grand Slam, his 2nd homer of the ball game and entire playoffs.
