They mentioned that the draft frequently didn't have enough players for the later rounds so they fixed that. I didn't realise their version of "fixing" was just lowering the amount of rounds, as I don't see how that makes any difference at all? I presumed they'd just add more bad draftees to fill out the later rounds

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I have already cleared my total time with this game from 17 in just over 2 days... lol.

was really on the fence going in on how to get this gong. did several fantasy drafts but just wasn't feeling it this year. So went with default well live roster Oakland A's. Went with the fisheye camera this year. wow, I love it maybe I would have played much more last year if I would have given it a chance. anyway.....

got the game going on the dynamic difficulty to start. Now 11 games in am on full on veteran/veteran. been an up and down start due to my lack of vision and patience at the plate.

did, however, beat the Dodgers in our first game agast them to end their perfect start to their season at 10-0. Right now I am 1.5 games back of Texas who really took it to me in the second series of the year.

Right now I am 7-5 and am second in the AL West.

I think I am thinking about bringing Fowler up and sending Boog Powell down due to his inability to hit anything from the leadoff spot. Actually, I think I could bring up the other AAA CF I have who better than both of them in a lot of areas of the game. His name is Joesph Borowitz. yeah, I will pull the trigger on that move right now before I go to bed... I do work nights right now so I have to conk out during the day...

good luck to all of us this year... may we all be champions in the end of this thing...

I always go with the Mets, but I was thinking of going with the Yankees just to see how the other half live. I know, I know, shame on me...

However, I don't plan on buying until I see what a patch brings. There's a few things that are bothering me.

Are the OSFM rosters the one that change the salaries to real life salaries? If so, I recall I didn't like how that worked out. There was someone who changed them back and I went with that roster set. I can't remember though?

Is there a way to change the portrait view in free agency back to the previous list view from past franchises? And do all the transactions not pop up now? In my test run franchise I signed Chris Sale but it never gave me a notification. Is there any way to go back to the previous off-season system? Other than going back to last years game LOL

This seemed like the best place to post this so here it goes. How do you guys play your franchise? Every year before this year (mainly because I haven't started one yet) I would keep track of daily transactions for EVERY single team including call-ups, send downs, trades, DL stints, any type of transaction. But this year I don't want to do that I want to wait for the first couple of SCEA live updates and the first couple of OSFM rosters before starting a franchise and just playing like I'm in an alternate universe. So, my question is how do you guys play your franchises? Do you play every game? Sim? Do you play any minor league games? etc. any response and discussion would be great.

I play 1 game vs non-divisonal opponents and 2 vs division.
Quick counts vs non-divisonal, full game vs divison.
Pitch and hit when tied, Pitch only when winning, hit only when trailing.

Also, started a franchise thread in the dynasty section for my franchise with The Padres

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Started up a franchise with the SF Giants. Found a roster in the vault with the top 100 prospects added in and they are rated fine to me so I rolled with that. Gives me something to do until OSFM releases so I can start my real franchise with the Yankees. Tired of exhibition already and not much of a DD or RTTS player. If I enjoy it I might do some ratings editing to change the important prospects to their OSFM ratings and maybe add some guys in and keep it going on the side with Yankees franchise.

Giants are an interesting team to use. A team clearly built to win now but unfortunately in the same division as the powerhouse Dodgers and now the Rockies and Diamondbacks are now actual threats and contenders again. Should be a challenging division race.

Current core probably only has very few runs/chances left before it’s rebuild time. Pretty much all the key pieces except Bumgarner are on the wrong side of 30. Signed Yunel Escobar as a backup IF.

This is the group I’m going with.
                  Lineup: 2B Panik
                  1B Belt
                  RF McCutchen
                  C Posey
                  3B Longoria
                  LF Pence
                  SS Crawford
                  CF Jackson
                  Pitchers spot.

                  Bench: SS Escobar
                  C Hundley
                  2B Tomlinson
                  LF Parker
                  CF Blanco

                  Rotation: MadBum
                  Cueto
                  Samardzija
                  Chris Stratton
                  Ty Blach.

                  Bullpen: LRP Sam Dyson
                  MRP Derek Law
                  MRP Cory Gearrin
                  MRP Will Smith
                  SU Hunter Strickland
                  SU Tony Watson
                  CP Mark Melancon.

Dosen’t start off easy either. Season starts off with 4 in LA against the Dodgers.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Same as every year (never gets old)

Yankees Franchise (30 team control) with:
                    -OSFM Rosters
-Armor & Sword/Marino's Classic Pitching Directional Hitting Sliders

I play every inning of all 162 games + playoffs and quick manage all spring training games.

I like to make it my own and let things play out how they're gonna play out in the game, so won't necessarily keep on par with Yankees real life roster moves (Wade, Holder, Bird & Ellsbury on DL)

I've run 2 test sim Franchise's to see how the ratings that the game came with will play out over the course of a season. I thought the ratings appeared too low at first for many players, but so far the results have been very accurate and realistic. The one and only problem I see with ratings is Didi Gregorius. In the first he hit .236 with 11 HR and in the 2nd he hit .249 with 12 HR. I will probably give him a small manual ratings boost as I see him performing much above these levels. His power ratings come in at only 58 vs R and 40 vs L. Way too low IMO.

Like I said, I won't necessarily follow along with exactly what Boone and Cashman are doing so I will tinker with my own lineup throughout spring training and probably into the regular season as well.

A lot can change but as of now my projected roster will be as follows:

                    vs. RHP
                    Gardner LF
                    Judge RF
                    Stanton DH
                    Gregorius SS
                    Sanchez C
                    Bird 1B
                    Walker 2B
                    Hicks CF
                    Drury 3B

                    vs LHP
                    Gardner LF
                    Judge DH
                    Stanton RF
                    Sanchez C
                    Gregorius SS
                    Hicks CF
                    Bird 1B
                    Walker 2B
                    Drury 3B

vs RHP is basically set. vs LHP I might try a few things such as:
-Sitting Bird, Walker at 1B, Torreyes at 2B batting 9th
-Sitting Gardner, Stanton in LF, Judge in RF and in some way rotate DH whether that is Drury or Walker and play Torreyes (.330-something vs LHP last year), or give Sanchez a day at DH and bat Romine 9th

This will depend on matchups and how hot/cold Torreyes, Bird, and Gardner are.

                    Moving on....

                    Bench

                    Romine C
                    Torreyes 2B, SS, 3B
                    Ellsbury OF
Maybe Austin as a 1B and corner outfielder, but I like the idea of taking a 3 man bench and 8-man bullpen

                    Rotation

                    Severino
                    Tanaka
                    Sabathia
                    Gray
                    Montgomery

Not planning on giving Monty any competition for the 5th spot.

                    Bullpen

                    Green LR
Warren MR (will occasionally use for multiple innings)
                    Kahnle MR
                    Shreve (L) MR
                    Betances SU (7th)
                    Robertson SU (8th)
                    Chapman CP

If I decide to start with 8-man bullpen, I will look at Holder, Heller, Gallegos, and maybe others in Spring Training.

                    Really excited about this team.

Please give feedback and suggestions! Thanks!

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Even though I didn’t have the OSFM rosters yet, I used one of the rosters in the vault with a bunch of top prospects and the rosters are working out pretty nice, I decided to use it and start a “trial” Franchise.

I used the Braves, sent Acuña down to the minors to a couple weeks. And after a DREADFUL 5-33 start and losing any interest on the 2018 season I basically sold what I could at the deadline. Simmed through the year and focused on the off-season and 2019.

In the off-season, we didn’t sign and big name guys, just supporting pieces. We were able to trade for a 27yo 90overall Eugenio Suarez from the Reds. Acuña blossomed to a 87overall and adjusted overall is 91(!)

I just started the 2019 campaign, roster is promising. When I get home tonight I’ll go on and post rosters/lineups/Rotation and see how the year goes. So far, things are looking good!

Any one else have this issue in Franchise mode. I advanced through the 2018 season, and through spring training 2019, but when I click to "Advance to regular season" or Advance one day, the game just freezes and I have to reboot. Help!
