Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The night of the early release I started my franchise. Like every year I am going with the chicago Cubs currently 12 games in and we are 9-3. I know I will restart once ridin and his team get the osfm rosters out but for not just test driving the franchise mode and gameplay as well as my sliders.

My roster feels stacked all the way around with plenty of depth

    Lineup:
    1. Ian happ (Albert almora when lefty is pitching)
    2. Kris Bryant
    3. Anthony rizzo
    4. Willson Contreras
    5. Kyle Schwarber
    6. Addison Russell
    7. Jason Heyward
    8. Javier Baez
    9. Pitcher

    Bench:
    Ben Zobrist-2b,ss,rf,lf,1b
    Tommy La Stella- 3b,2b
    Albert Almora- lf,cf,RF
    Victor Caratini- C,1b
    Chris Gimenez- c,1b

    Rotation:
    1. Jon Lester
    2. Kyle Hendricks
    3. Yu Darvish
    4. Jose Quintana
    5. Tyler Chatwood

    Bullpen:
    LR- Mike Montgomery
    MR- Pedro Strop
    MR- Carl Edwards Jr
    MR- Brain Duensing
    SU- Justin Wilson
    SU- Steve Cishek
    CL- Brandon Morrow

I feel like this team is really great and excited to see what the season will bring.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Loaded up my Braves chise from 17, in year 2, facing the Yankees in the World Series, going to play Game 1 this evening. It's Julio Teheran vs Luis Severino at Yankee stadium for Game 1. My lineup is as follows:

      Ozzie Albies 2B
      Stephen Piscotty RF
      Freddie Freeman 1B
      Manny Machado 3B
      Khris Davis LF
      Lorenzo Cain CF
      Mike Zunino C
      Nick Senzel DH
      Dansby Swanson SS

I made several moves in year one, hence why the team looks vastly different, Acuna, Gohara, Allard, Riley all were traded. Excited to fire up 18 for the World Series. Trying to repeat from 17

I simulated a season and noticed that velocity and break attributes are not progressing or regressing across the board for all pitchers. Anyone else notice this?

Don't think they have ever progressed in any version of the show, I know they didn't in 16 or 17... Will regress though when pitchers are getting old I believe.

I’ll be playing a few games here and there until OSFM comes out, but if it’s going well enough I might keep playing it. It’s been pretty entertaining. I’ll try to keep up and give monthly updates. Hope you guys enjoy the future posts.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

We got the new year started (2019) with a 2-0 win over the Padres. It wasn't pretty, but thanks to solo homers by Randal Grichuk and Magnerius Sierra, and dominant pitching by Wacha, Britton, and Rosenthal, we were able to notch our first win of the season.

MacKenzie Gore lit us up for the Padres only allowing 3 hits while striking out 7. His lone earned run was a wall scraper homerun by Grichuk in the 2nd.

The combination of Britton in the 8th and Rosenthal in the 9th is going to prove brutal I think for opposing clubs. Really like our bullpen.

Next up is game 2 with Carlos Martinez squaring off against Robbie Erlin.

                Baseball is back!!!

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Have run 4 test simulations so far in order to see how the ratings play out over a season. I think it's very accurate so far. One concern I had was Didi's power being too low after hitting 11 and 12 home runs the first two, but he's hit 20 and 21 the last two so I think he's ok.

Yankees final record in each of the 4 has been:

                  97-65 (1st place)
                  101-61 (1st place)
                  102-60 (1st place)
                  100-62 (1st place)

Judge won MVP in 1st and 4th and Stanton won MVP in 2nd and 3rd.. not even kidding

Gary Sanchez won Gold Glove in all 4, Gardner also won 1, and Drury 1
Chapman 2 reliever of year awards
                  Severino 1 Cy Young

Not looking too bad.. pretty pumped. Will fire it up for real once OSFM drops!

Anyone else got a......wierd bug in Franchise mode. Just ran my first, first year player draft in 18 and, actually did very well. Despite picking way down, thanks to a couple of supplemental picks, I was able to recruit 6 players all with 85+ potential, 3 with 90+. Happy days. However, when I look at the players they ALL appear to be clones. All of them have dreds and beards, they are all 6'4, 210lbs!!!

I can't wait for OSFM to drop so I can finally start my Yankees Franchise. The wait is getting really, really difficult. I'm really enjoying my RTTS and I started a test Franchise with the Rockies which has been cool, but I miss my Bronx Bombers!

As I always do, I start my Franchise off the same way the real season starts off (and then let it play out naturally from there) , so unfortunately I'll be missing Bird for the first two months. I'm just going to give Tyler Austin a shot and have Andujar playing 1B in AAA in case Austin is awful.

Same, getting super antsy. Makes it even harder knowing how exciting and good this team is.

However I like to make mine totally natural from the beginning so I'll start with no injuries to Bird or Ellsbury. Also Tyler Wade won't necessarily make my team. I'll probably hand the 2B job to Neil Walker out of the gate and then call up Gleyber if he rakes in AAA.

I normally wait but this year I have been enjoying my carry over franchise from 17. Also, as countryboy mentioned, I like to let my "alternate universe" play out and just play the game and enjoy it rather than trying to get my game to mimic what is happening in real life. Currently I'm on May 15th 2018 in my Yankees franchise and 5 GMs ahead of the Red Sox in the AL East.

On a side note and somewhat related, there has been a lot of talk about what SDS had removed (Season mode, online franchise) and some annoying bugs but I think we take for granted some of the great things we are able to do in the game such as having "carry over" franchises. I may be mistaken, but I do not think any other sports game on the consoles ever had that.

Couple questions as a n00b to the Show:

How does player progression work exactly?
At what rating/age do players stop progressing in the minors?
Do they progress at the same rate no matter what level they're in?
Does having a top young prospect on your bench instead of playing every day in the minors stunt his development?

More general questions about the game:

What attributes matter the most for pitchers and hitters?
Would, all other stats being equal, a pitcher with 99 K/9 and 99 BB/9 but 50 stuff (control/velocity/break) get more strikeouts and less walks than a pitcher with 50 x/9 and 99 stuff or vice versa?

Answers to any/all of these(or links to youtube tutorials from old games that are still applicable) would be greatly appreciated
