    2019 Season Wrap-up

Indians finish the season 98-64 we tried to catch the Red Sox but soon decided to start playing some of our call-ups and see how they would be. The Marlins unveiled a new park today, much to the surprise of many in the area.

"We saw this big tent like thing downtown and wonder what was 'coming soon' like it said on the sign. Who knew it was a new stadium??" A female fan commented.

The park is designed on the Petco Park model and it should be interesting to see how the Marlins games go.

Fans will get a first taste as the team begins a home stand on Memorial Day.

"We thought this would be a good time to break out the new yard, " a Marlins official commented, "Memorial Day is the start of summer, the peak season for our game, and with so much excitement around the team, it just seemed perfect."

The Marlins will host the Phillies on MLB Network it the park's maiden voyage into baseball history.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Hey guys. I’ve loved reading this thread for the past couple months. I’m trying to decide on a franchise team and I’ve narrowed it down to 3: Pirates, Braves, Brewers.

I’m an average to above average player. I’ve been using the Pirates with the osfm draft class rosters that released a little bit ago. I’m 3-1 but I wonder with my skill level how I’ll be able to keep up.

I’d love some input from you franchise experts. I’ve listed my personal pros and cons for each team below

          Pirates pros:

-Some nice young talent but not loaded
-81 games at PNC which I think is the best park
          -Nice young rotation
-Amazing closer that I love pitching with
-In the most fun division imo

          Pirates cons:

          -Not much talent
-I play all 162 games so prospects may never develop
-Lack of bullpen talent outside of closer and not many trade pieces to fix it
          -Best players are older

          Brewers pros:

-Great major league roster with trade pieces to fix cons (Lorenzo Cain)
          -Good young talent to develop
          -Most fun division
-likely the best fit for my skill level
          -Josh Hader

          Brewers cons:
-Not a good starting rotation. I would likely trade Cain for an arm and use Phillips and Broxton
          -They don’t play in PNC
-Maybe too talented and the game would be easy?

          Braves pros:
          -Prospects prospects prospects
-good major league talent on top of the prospects. Could make any kind of trade to mold the team how I want
          -Acuna

          Braves cons:
-No closer. For some reason I really enjoy having a great closer
          -Don’t play in PNC
          -Don’t play in the central
-Playing 162 games will the prospects develop much? I’d likely play 2 seasons
          -Needs pitching help everywhere

I say go Pirates. I think you will miss playing at PNC. Plus i like a challenge. Try to stay in the mix and hopefully by the all star break you can make a move to make a run. Ive also heard others saying they are loving playing with the Pirates this year. And based on your pro's and con's i would still choose them, regardless of the park.

I'm 90 games into my franchise with the Braves and I'm loving it. A lot of the young talent could be Major League ready within the first 2 seasons. Soroka and Gohara have been big for my pitching staff. Even Allard has been tearing it up in AAA, so he might be due for a call up after the All-Star break. Obviously you have Albies and Acuna, but Austin Riley could also come up and fill in for Camargo in the second half of the season.

The Braves have a lot of talented arms, so if you find the bullpen to be a problem, you could deal some of those younger arms like Wright, Anderson, Wentz, etc. for a guy like Britton and you solve your closer problem right there and really sure up back end of the bullpen.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

At September 18th in my Yankees franchise, since I last posted here we’ve swept Oakland on the road, took 2 out of 3 against Seattle to finish up our west coast trip, then swept the Twins in Minnesota, and in our last series swept the Jays at The Stadium. Regular Season is winding down now, a little over 2 weeks left. We have the best record in the league at 98-51. We have already clinched the postseason and the division is pretty much locked up as well.

Boston is 10.5 games out after dropping two in a row to the Mets. Only a miracle can save them from the wild card Game at this point, they pretty much have no room for error. They see us for 2 more 3 game sets, the first in New York and last one at Fenway. They basically need to win all 6 and dominate in their other 2 series, and hope we fall apart vs Tampa and Baltimore.

Next up after an off day is 3 Vs Boston in New York, then 3 Vs Baltimore at home, then 4 vs the Rays at the Trop, then 3 at Fenway to end the season. Hopefully we can use this series to just completely put them away right here.

Quick question, may be kinda dumb, but I have had the game for about a week. Really loving it but I have no injuries to me or the computer in franchise or road to the show so far. I am on beginner, which I am gonna bump up soon. Not sure if that is reason why. Thanks.

Taillon, Kingham, Newman and Moran’s struggles were getting worse so Taillon, Kingham and Moran went to the Mets for Syndergaard, Matz and Aujase(or however spell it) and Newman and 2 prospects went to the Phillies for Mikael Franco and Caeser Hernandez! Sitting at 10-4.

MLB 18 the Show Franchise: Atlanta Braves

So I held out for a little while but finally bought the game yesterday. Been playing for years but never stuck to posting here on my franchise progress. Finished setting up my rosters earlier today and got started. Using OSFM Opening Day rosters, manually adjusted to have full 40-man rosters for each team. Set to manual control for all aspects of franchise mode, dynamic difficulty hitting and pitching. Playing every 6th game plus critical situations/player lock milestones and simming the rest. Getting started with spring training:

                        Roster Outlook

Contrary to real life right now, Atlanta's roster to start the game is not built to win in 2018. It is however absolutely loaded with prospects at just about every position. My long-term strategy will have to be "wait and see" which of these prospects turn into stars. I'll ride through 2018 with the pieces I have and when these guys are ready to compete it will become apparent. Getting antsy and forcing a contender through trades before these guys blossom could hamstring a roster that has dynasty potential. It helps that my current stars (Freeman and Inciarte) are already locked in to multi-year deals. On to the specifics:

                        Starters

Atlanta brought in Brandon McCarthy in a trade in the offseason so that gives me just one guy with an 80 ovr to start the year. He's on a 1-year deal so could be a trade candidate if we fall out of it in the summer. Behind him I've got Teheran (78 ovr, still B potential) who figures to be a mid-rotation guy going forward. Chase Whitley came in as a RP but with a Stamina rating in the 70's I converted him to SP and now have another guy with a solid-average 75 ovr. Behind them I have several youngsters - Newcomb (75/A) is probably safe with a rotation spot, with Gohara (72/A), Foltynewicz (72/B) Aaron Blair (70/B) duking it out this spring for a spot at #5 or as a long reliever (leaving one odd man out). I also have Anibal Sanchez (68/C/Age 34) who is almost useless with 0 minor league options.

                        Spring Training Rotation:
                        1 R McCarthy
                        2 R Teheran
                        3 R Whitley
                        4 L Newcomb
                        5 R Foltynewicz
                        LRP L Gohara
                        LRP R Blair
                        LRP R Sanchez

                        Bullpen

I have a passable closer in Arodys Vizcaino (78 ovr). Behind him my pen is just average. No in-depth analysis necessary, most of these guys become expendable when I figure out which of my prospects are slated for the pen down the road.

                        Spring Training Bullpen:
                        CP R Vizcaino (78)
                        SU R Peter Moylan (77)
                        SU L Rex Brothers (72)
                        MRP L Sam Freeman (75)
                        MRP L Grant Dayton (73)
                        MRP R Jose Ramirez (70)
                        MRP R Miguel Socolovich (70)

                        Catcher

I have two borderline all-star-level catchers in Kurt Suzuki and Tyler Flowers (80 & 79) who I will most likely platoon. Both are above average defensively and at least average with the bat.

                        First Base

Freddie Freeman, obviously. Elite against righties and still above average against lefties. Average defender.

                        Second Base

Albies is already a borderline star with 80 ovr at age 21. He has an average bat albeit little power, and is already an above average defender. Above average speed.

                        Shortstop

Dansby Swanson (77 ovr) is major league ready but not quite a star yet. Above average defensively, good speed, slightly below average bat but should develop into a star.

                        Third Base

Have a major hole here. I have Culberson who hits above average with power against lefties but has a terrible arm which doesn't fit third base well. Johan Camargo is a better defender but still at 69 ovr does not quite have the tools yet to be an MLB caliber player. Will see how they play in swing but may end up with a platoon here. I have a B prospect at 63 ovr who isn't ready for a call up yet.

                        Left Field

A dilemma here, as I have Acuna in AAA not on the 40-man. He's at 74/A and is my best left fielder, but I'm not sure if it would serve him better to marinate in AAA for a bit before the call up. On the roster I have Bourjos who at 68 ovr and no bat, but elite defense and above average speed is probably better suited to a 4th outfielder role. I have Ezequiel Carrera at CF behind Inciarte (73 ovr) who will hold it down for now until I make a decision on Acuna. He has an average bat with above average defense and speed, but also serious drawbacks with no power and an absolutely dreadful arm.

                        Center Field

Inciarte became a star in '17 and is here to stay. 86 ovr, above-average to elite bat (albeit no power), elite defense, and above average speed put him among the top CF in the league.

                        Right Field

Markakis is a solid major leaguer, 77 ovr with a solid bat and elite defense. He rounds out an outfield that should be pretty spectacular defensively.

Here's my lineup for the spring opener in Port St. Lucie against the Mets:
                        CF Inciarte
                        LF Carrera
                        RF Markakis
                        1B Freeman
                        C Flowers
                        2B Albies
                        3B Camargo
                        SS Swanson
                        P McCarthy

It's not a great lineup. We have some speed, which will be the strength of my team along with good defense. Freddie Freeman is the only bat in this lineup with even average power. (I know what my scouting focus will be in year 1).

                        Top 10 Prospects

1 LF Ronald Acuna Age 20, 74 ovr, A pot
2 SP Kyle Wright Age 22, 69 ovr, A pot
3 SP Kolby Allard Age 20, 66 ovr, A pot
4 SP Luiz Gohara Age 21, 72 ovr, A pot
5 SP Mike Soroka Age 20, 68 ovr, A pot
6 SP Ian Anderson Age 19, 67 ovr, A pot
                        7 3B Austin Riley Age 20, 67 ovr, B pot
8 SP Max Fried Age 24, 56 ovr B pot
9 RP Akeel Morris Age 25, 55 ovr B pot
10 RP Jason Hursh Age 26, 51 ovr B pot

Ready to get started. Updates to come after Spring Training wraps up.

I do not have confirmation on this but I have heard a rumor that the first year of franchise or RttS has significantly less injuries then later years. Lots of people have had complaints about the lack of injuries this year, yet my franchise (which is a carry over from 2014) got absolutely decimated this year with injuries at 6. 26 teams have a key player injured, and I was averaging about 3 players injured PER DAY throughout the entirety of AA, AAA, and MLB. BTW that only was injuries that needed AT LEAST a stint on the 10 day DL.

So general consensus is to pump injuries up to 9 for played games and 6 for simmed games in your first year, and then just bump in back to default (5) in all the years following.

So I ended up looking at the classic parks and I think I'm going to settle on Griffith Stadium.

It's big. It's open. It's a classic. And I think I'm going to like the challenge of dealing with it (I might have to pray no one hits anything to Winter in LF hahahaha)

                              Draft Results

                              Dustin Bishop/22 YO/CF/59 OVR/87 POT
Bishop has great Dee Gordon like speed. Other than that he needs a lot of work. It will likely take a good 4 or 5 years before he is ready for the bigs.

                              Cesar Villasmil/20 YO/LHP SP/56 OVR/80 POT
He too will need to develope for an extended period of time but could be a nice addition to our starting rotation in the future.

                              Alexi Valenzuela/20 YO/1B/70 OVR/70 POT
Alexi could be the eventual replacement for Jose Abreu. It would be nice to see him exceed his potential though. He does have really good power and contact against lefties already.

                              Luis Molina/22 YO/RHP RP/53 OVR/73 POT
Has potential to be a solid bullpen arm but needs to improve by a lot before he will get that chance.

                              Richard McClelland/21 YO/SS/54 OVR/60 POT
If signed, likely a career minor leaguer.

** still negative in budget, therefore we cant sign any of these guys..have to rectify that before the end of the season.

                              OVERVIEW
The second month of the season reminded us that although we have a great team, If we don't play to expectations, we can lose and lose a lot.

Conforto is close (1-2 weeks) to coming back from his injury. Shinjo has been doing pretty well in his absence but will give way once he returns.

Yoan Moncada is having a breakout season so far (.269 AVG 14 HR 38 RBI) he leads the team in both HR and RBI. Avisail Garcia is also having a great season after moving up in the lineup from last season. He is hitting a team best .332 with 10 HR and 34 RBI. Our biggest struggles are Eloy Jiminez (.198 AVG) and Brett Gardner (.224 AVG)

Gerrit Cole continues to dominate opposing hitters. He is now 9-0 with a 1.69 ERA and 80 strike outs. Carlos Rodon has fallen off, possibly partially due to being upset over losing his ACE role after a solid 2019 campaign. He is 3-4 with a 5.03 ERA.

Our bullpen has been solid despite being understaffed due to the budget issues. If we don't make it up in revenue before the trade deadline, we may have to unload some high salaries who aren't performing well. As mentioned before, Cole is the biggest hit to our budget but there is no chance that we move him.

We will look to get through June by improving our lead in the division.

                                2019 Off-season

We lost the World Series in seven games. I had Jarlin Garcia start the game against Walker Buehler and the game ended up getting away from me. I ended up bringing in Corey Kluber to salvage the game but he got roughed up and we weren't able to come back and get the win.

Charlie Morton retired leaving a hole in my bullpen which I would fill in the off-season signing Michael Pineda to a deal. Below you'll find all off-season trades & signings that I could remember to take down. I'll be providing an update on my roster as well as a look at some top prospects in the MLB and where they are.
