Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

    Strangest game ever.

Cliff notes version because it's 6 AM:

    0-0 through 7. I get like 2 hits with 5 walks.

Leave my starter out too long, give up 4 runs in top 8th

I get a single and 3 consecutive HBP to score a run, then grand slam, then another run to lead 6-4 after 8 innings after a 6-run bottom 8th.

Closer gives up 3 runs in top 9th to make it 7-6.

I get runners on first and third but can't score tying run.

I get 6 runs on 5 hits with 7 walks and 3 HBP.

Never played a game like that. Like what is that lol.

Ever since picking Griffith Stadium, the games have been weird there, even when it doesn't relate to the dimensions (like getting 3 consecutive HBP...that's literally NEVER happened to me ever until tonight). I love it, definitely challenging, but it's like, where is this oddball stuff coming from suddenly? lol

    Curse of Marlins Park? LOL

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

After being swept by the lowly Brewers, we took 2 out of 3 against the Reds to stay within 5 games of the lead with about 6 weeks to play.

Our bats struggled mightily in the Brewer series and in the first game against the Reds. But we fired back in games 2 and 3 hitting a total of 6 homeruns including 2 grand slams in the 2nd game.

Next up is 3 against AL East leader Baltimore and then 4 game set with the Indians where we play 2 home and 2 on the road. Big week for us.

Injuries continue to mount as Dean Kiekhefer is out 2 weeks after taking a line drive off the noggin.

        Postseason - 2023

Well our season official ends at the hands of the Yankees. They take the series 3-1 and move on to face the Rangers in the ALCS. Most of the blame has to fall on the pitching. As a team we hit .239/.312/.362, with 8 doubles, 3 HR and 1 SB. The pitching staff had a 5.66 ERA. In the 3 games New York won they hit 11 home runs. Jake Junis was great in game 2. In 8 innings he allowed 4 hits, 1 Walk and 6 Strikeouts. Freddy Morse was by far our best reliever. Allowed 2 hits and struck out 7 in 3 IP. Jorge Bonifacio led the offense. 2 home runs including a 3 run bomb in game 1.

Not the end we were hoping for. But it was sort of expected. Having Salvy and Diaz would have helped a lot. But we gotta move on and get better. Emilio Pagan, Jose Torres, Cheslor Cuthbert and Lorenzo Cain will all be free agents. Gonna try and bring Torres back for sure. Think its time to let Cuthbert go. Try and get another utility guy in that can help out in more spots. Not sure what Cains plan is. If he choose to play another year we will look to bring him back. And I have no idea what to do with Pagan. Gotta look and see who is available first.

Are any of you all seeing Franchise stats that are a little inflated in some categories?

I'm nearing the end of my second year, and in both seasons, Clayton Kershaw will have won 25 or more games. It seems he'll probably get 30 or more in 2019.

Kenley Jansen had 46 saves at the 2019 All Star Break and is poised to destroy K-Rod's single season saves record of 62.

Anthony Rizzo leads the National League in RBI with a few weeks left in the season with 110...if he were in the American League, he'd place just barely in the top 10, as the leading run producer in the AL has almost 160 RBI, and nine other players have at least 120.

Consider that, in 2017, the most wins by a pitcher was 18, the leader in saves had 47, and the most RBI a player collected was 132.

Just some odd ball stats I noticed...wondering if others have seen the same.

I don't remember seeing any oddities (I looked at stats last night) but I will double check today when I get home.

Thanks! I'm gonna look again as well...just to see if anything else sticks out in other categories. These were the stats that really caught my eye and caused me to dig a little deeper into real-world results.

I'm still early into year 14 so I don't know how "odd" they can get yet but I'll look.

It wouldn't surprise me because that franchise has seen some odd stats in the past.

Yeah by year 14, nothing is odd and everything is the norm. You are in a new era of baseball

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Taking a look now...seems the biggest thing is just that the American League scores a TON more runs than the NL. And the NL has absolute dominant pitching.

I just finished the 2019 season, and the top 10 of individual run scorers in the AL ranged from 127 to 101. The NL runs leader for the year was Anthony Rizzo with 99.

From a team perspective, 4 of the top 5 teams in runs scored were AL teams: Boston scored 871, Toronto 850, the Yankees 842, Houston 781, and then the Cubs (me) with 779.

Meanwhile, the NL dominated pitching. Only 3 AL teams were in the top 10 for team ERA.

Interesting way to look at it. I like it.

I did take a look at the stats as June begins.

Only a few jumped at me.

Cubs' Charlie Sharpe might be the league's new best pitcher. 99 OVR with a 1.29 ERA.

The AL leader is odd because of his ratings. Indians starter Peter Casillas has a 1.68 ERA and he doesn't have a rating over 80 and just BB/9 over 70.

Marlins' Stan Brito has 24 doubles already. If he gets 600 AB, he might break 60 doubles. At 550 AB, he's on pace for 57 doubles.

Nothing else particularly unusual from a numbers standpoint. Arturo Gonzalez having 17 HR already is odd because his power ratings are 70/40...he keeps that up and he'll blow away his career high of 26 HR.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Marlins came out swinging (and walking) en route to a 13-2 victory to salvage a split of the series with the Mets.

The team ends May on a winning note and finished with an 18-10 record on the month. In the standings, the Marlins hold a 9 1/2 game lead over the Nationals, who have won four straight.

The team now looks ahead to the draft. Left fielders, shortstops, and pitchers might be the focus as the team enters their war room in a few days. However, the consensus is that the Marlins will focus on pitchers as they try to restock the farm system.

"The Marlins have had little luck with pitching prospects in recent years. Jason Engle still is one to watch and Shane Koehne, who they promoted this month, is looking solid. Otherwise, not much there, " one scout commented.

                        Notes:
Bo Winter hit his 350th career home run...Despite the hitting success of catcher Julian Peralta, Marlins manager Richard Batista is considering a change to Maxwell Lima...Alfonso Ortega might still be considered a disappointment...with Greg Rivera and, of course, Bo Winter, on the roster, Ortega could be an interesting trade piece...Miguel Gonzalez might not be able to call himself the closer without improvement in his performance...

I'm in early June now, 60 games into my Braves franchise. A quick update a few days before the draft:

We still have the best record in MLB at 38-22. The bats have cooled off a bit, but the starting pitching is finally starting to get going after a dreadful start to the season. Kazmir was my only starter with an ERA under 5 until recently. The bullpen has been fantastic. Vizcaino and Sam Freeman have been nearly unhittable.

The Mets are only 2.5 back, while the Phillies and Nats are a distant third, each at 24-36.

Most of the other divisions are bunched up from top to bottom still. The Cubs lead the Central with the Dodgers leading the West in the NL. The Rays, Indians and surging Astros (winners of nine straight) lead the AL divisions.

I made a few minor roster moves in May. Rio Ruiz was our top pinch hitter. But as our 3B of the future, I wanted to send him back to AAA to get regular at-bats. Problem is there really wasn't a capable replacement to take his spot on the bench. So I hit the trade block and acquired Robbie Grossman from the Twins for a AA pitcher. To open a spot on the 40-man roster, I sent Akeel Morris (AAA) to the Angels for a low-level SS prospect.

Acuna is still in AAA in my world as Lane Adams continued to produce in LF.

The big trade of the month was the Reds acquiring D.J. LeMathieu from the Rockies for Scooter Gennett and a generated top prospect.

                                OVERVIEW
Obviously a very good stretch for our team as we now sit 10.5 games ahead of the Indians. Michael Conforto came back late June from his injury and has been playing well (.280 AVG/9 HR/27 RBI in 32 games this season).

Yoan Moncado has continued to excel as he still leads the team in HR (22) and RBI (59). Avisail Garcia also continues his great season as he is third in the AL in AVG (.323) . Our only player really struggling in regards to hitting is Eloy Jiminez who is batting a rough .203 but he is second in the team in HR (18) and RBI (52). So I guess when he hits the ball he hits it well.

Pitching wise, Gerrit Cole did lose his first game but is still a CY Young caliber 14-1 with a 2.19 ERA. Lucas Giolito has the second best record (10-5)

We finally made that deal needed to bring us to positive in money. We sent two struggling pitchers Carlos Rodon (83 OVR) and Drew Pomeranz (82 OVR) to the twins for prospects.

Tanner Roark (82 OVR) and Reynaldo Lipez (81 OVR) have taken their place in the starting rotation. With that we were able to sign our rookies that we wanted to sign.

We were also able to add some additions to our bullpen so they wouldn't be so thin.

The trade deadline is quickly approaching. We have already been offered a trade by the Giants who were looking to acquire Conforto...a 9ffer which we quickly declined. I don't really see any true needs that need to addressed. We will look over offered trades but unless it's something we just cant pass up, we are happy with our current team.
