Been a crummy 3-7 run of late w/my fantasy Nats.

    5 game losing streak:

    1-7
9-10 (closer blew a lead in the 9th)
    3-6
    4-9
    2-6

That said, at 40-39, only 1.5 behind tne first place Mets.

    Loving every minute of it.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

2018 Postseason is in the books. Red Sox win a thrilling 7-game World Series over the Diamondbacks. Andrew Benintendi won both ALCS and World Series MVP, batting over .500 in the fall classic.

On to the offseason, where my Braves figure to be reasonably active. I’ve made my contract renewal and arbitration offers to most eligible players. No major news yet aside from the release of RP Dan Winkler in the first move to clear space for impending free agents. I am toying with the idea of floating an offer to Manny Machado, but I am afraid it could hamstring my budget and I have needs in multiple positions. Seeking a third baseman, catcher, right-handed reliever and potentially an outfielder as well.

Game 3 of the ALCS goes to the Tigers, taking a 3-0 series lead.

The Detroit Tigers beat the Houston Astros 11-4 Tuesday night, putting them one win away from returning to the World Series for the first time since 2012. Detroit used a seven run fifth inning to put the game away. Victor Martinez homered twice, and Nicholas Castellanos, Kyle Dutcher, and Walter Agua also homered. Dutcher, Castellanos, and Martinez went back to back to back in the fifth.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on solo home runs by Victor Martinez and Walter Agua. Houston got a run back in the bottom of the inning, on an RBI single by Yuli Gurriel. The score stayed 2-1 until the fifth, when the Tigers put the game away.

In the top of the fifth, the Tigers loaded the bases for D.J. LeMahieu, who singled to right, scoring Jeimer Candelario, giving the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Miguel Cabrera struck out, which brought shortstop Kyle Dutcher to the plate. Dutcher drove the ball deep into the left center field seats for a grand slam, and a 7-1 lead. Nicholas Castellanos followed with a solo home run to left center himself. Victor Martinez followed Castellanos with a solo shot to right, his second home run of the game. That put the TIgers up 9-1.

Houston got a couple runs back in the bottom of the 5th, on a Carlos Correa home run, scoring George Springer. It was Correa's first home run of the post season, and his first two RBI of the post season. Houston would get another back in the 6th, on Alex Bregman's solo home run, his first of the post season. But, 9-4 would be as close as the Astros would manage to get, as the Tiger bullpen once again slammed the door with three scoreless innings of relief.

Detroit would add a couple more runs in the 9th on a 2 run double by Nicholas Castellanos. Rick Stava started, and went the first six innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits, walking three and striking out six. Paul Corba, Alejandro Bella, and Joe Jimenez each pitched an inning of scoreless relief. Houston starter Gerrit Cole only lasted 4 1/3 innings, giving up 8 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks, with 7 strikeouts. Colin McHugh pitched the last 4 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits.

In the National League Championship Series. the LA Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs 7-4 to even up thier series at two games apiece. Game five is Wednesday night, with Kenta Maeda facin Yu Darvish.

                  Atlanta Braves Franchise

                  2018-2019 Offseason

It was a whirlwind offseason, as I made a few big moves and really shook up the MLB roster while still keeping our core intact. First, a few of the notable offseason transactions around the league:

The Padres were quite active as they seem to be positioning themselves as a contender. They started by beating us out in negotiations for reliever Trevor Rosenthal. Then they flipped Wil Myers to St. Louis for Marcell Ozuna, and acquired Justin Verlander from Houston for Fernando Tatis Jr. and a pitching prospect.

Giants sign Dallas Keuchel to a 5-year deal.

Toronto was the surprise winner for Bryce Harper, locking him up for 8-years and north of $200 mil. He must have been real unhappy in Washington, as he passed on a larger offer from the Nats. This bodes well for us NL east upstarts.

In another surprise move, the Twins were the lucky winners for Manny Machado.

Rangers sign closer Zach Britton to a 5-year deal.

On to our offseason. I did the math and realized I had a good deal of budget room: so I kicked off the offseason with a blockbuster acquisition and signed 2B Brian Dozier to a 4-year, $100.6 million deal. This completely shakes up my infield configuration, as Ozzie Albies will move over to short and Dansby Swanson will move to third. We will see how the shift affects their development, but I feel it was the right move to make. I needed power desperately, and Dozier was far and away the best power bat on the market. I feel Swanson and Albies are strong enough defenders coming off gold glove seasons to handle the move.

Next up, I needed an outfielder. The available options weren't very appealing so I locked up super-utility man Marwin Gonzalez for 3-years and a modest $12 million. He can play almost any position, so while he will have the first crack at the starting left field slot he will most likely end up filling in all over the place throughout the season if necessary.

Next up, catcher. I was unsuccessful on the free agent market losing out in negotiations with Robinson Chirinos (Angels), Evan Gattis (Rangers) and Tyler Flowers (Nationals). My attention shifted to the trade block, and I was able to make the following move:

                  Braves receive:
C Manny Pina: The 31-year old veteran batted .274, 18 HR, and 64 RBI in 2017 and provides adequate defense behind the dish. He is under team control for at least 2 more seasons, which is the perfect amount of time to let my catching prospects develop in the minors.

                  Angels receive:
RHP Drew Anderson: I had acquired him from Philly last season in the Tyler Flowers deal. He is 25-years-old and still could end up being a major league starter, but he is buried in my deep system and I found this to be a more-than-acceptable price to pay for an every day catcher.

Finally, I made a few moves to sure up my bullpen. I have plenty of lefties, so the focus would be on right-handed set-up / middle relief-type guys. I lost out in negotiations to Rosenthal and Brad Brach, so it was back to the trade block yet again. I pulled off the following:

                  Braves receive:
RHP Bryan Shaw: The veteran workhorse put up a 2.95 ERA in hitter-friendly Coors field in 2017 in the first year of a 4-year contract. He figures to be my primary set-up man for Arodys Vizcaino.

                  Rockies receive:
IF Charlie Culberson: He returns to a former employer in the Rockies. He was sub-par as a starter for me in 2017, and the acquisition of Dozier relegates him to the bench anyway. As I am swimming in prospects that are about as good as he is, he became expendable and we were able to receive some value for him. For the Rockies, he offers some pop against lefties with some upside remaining as he is under 30.

I was also able to scoop up righty Tony Zych from Minnesota in the rule-5 draft. My pen is still pretty thin so I see no reason he won't stick in the majors all season.

Those were my major moves. I made a multitude of smaller trades and transactions just reshuffling my minor league ranks a bit, but my core of prospects remain pretty steadily intact. I'm excited for 2019 to start as I think I've put together a lineup that will have much more thunder than our horrendous 2018. The focus will now be on the pitching staff, as the full arrival of this team will be dependent on when my young studs will be ready to fulfill their star potential.

Spring training rosters and lineups coming next.

                    Atlanta Braves Franchise

                    2019 Spring Training Preview

The new look Braves have reported to Sarasota for spring training, eager to put a dreadful 2018 behind us. Let's have a look at the roster and positional battles.

                    Starting Rotation

We will be going with a 7-man rotation in spring so we can get an adequate look at everyone in camp:

RHP Julio Teheran - In his contract year, will likely make his franchise-record 6th opening day start in 2019.

LHP Sean Newcomb - Struggled last season, pitching to a 4.69 in his first full year in the bigs. Still he has the tools to be the more polished of my youngsters, and we hope his experience in 2018 leads him to success this year.

LHP Luiz Gohara - Same story as Newcomb, struggled last year and we need him to turn the corner. Our success this year depends heavily on these two guys blossoming into solid major leaguers.

RHP Mike Soroka - Impressed in his debut during September call-ups last season. Is only 21 but should be ready for the majors.

RHP Lucas Sims - Pitched to a 3.95 ERA down the stretch last season. A good performance in spring could see him break camp as the 4th or 5th starter.

RHP Mike Foltynewicz - Had a very inconsistent season between the rotation and bullpen last year, then beat us in a tenuous arbitration hearing for $2M +. He will need to prove he can get some consistency in 2019.

RHP Matt Wisler - Also filled in adequately down the stretch last season. Has an outside shot at a rotation spot or long relief role.

                    Bullpen

Arodys Vizcaino returns as the closer, coming off a year in which he recorded a career-high 35 saves. Behind him are offseason acquisitions Bryan Shaw and Tony Zych, as well as 2018 all-star lefty Grant Dayton. The remaining spots are up for grabs, and the following guys are in camp to try to earn a spot:

                    LHP Tommy Layne
                    LHP Sam Freeman
                    RHP Miguel Socolovich
                    RHP Aaron Blair
                    LHP Rex Brothers

                    LHP Tanner Scott

                    Starting Lineup

We did a lot of work in the offseason to surround our young core with some solid bats and really hammer down a good starting lineup. Few position battles here, and these are our projected starters at each position:

                    C Manny Pina
                    1B Freddie Freeman
                    2B Brian Dozier
                    SS Ozzie Albies
                    3B Dansby Swanson
                    LF Marwin Gonzalez
                    CF Ender Inciarte
                    RF Ronald Acuna

The bench spots are up for grabs and should provide for some good spring competition. Veterans Rob Brantly and Carlos Perez, and rookie Tyler Marlette will battle for the backup catcher role. Christian Colon, Johan Camargo, and Ryan Flaherty will battle for reserve infielder duties. Ezequiel Carrera was more than serviceable as a 4th outfielder last year, and he should repeat that role in 2019. Guys like Austin Riley, Lane Adams, Preston Tucker, and Peter Bourjos all could win utility-type spots if they hit well in spring.

                    Preseason Top 10 Prospects

2018 draft picks are now in the fold so let's have a look:

                    1. OF Chris Sanchez - The 2018 2nd-round pick is very raw and could need 2 years in A-Ball, but he has a sky-high ceiling and could be a franchise player. He could be a 5-tool major leaguer.

                    2. RHP Kyle Wright - He is knocking on the door of the majors, but had a down year in AAA last year and needs to prove he can pitch against top hitters consistently.

                    3. LHP Kolby Allard - Our organizational pitcher of the year in 2018. He should spend the full season in AAA after mostly dominating in AA last year.

                    4. RHP Mike Soroka - Showed superb command of a 91-92 mph fastball and big bending curve in 23 major league innings last September. Is competing for a spot in the big league rotation in 2019.

                    5. RHP Ian Anderson - The 20-year old dominates with a blazing running fastball, backed up by a curve, slider, and change. Comparisons to young Justin Verlander.

                    6. 1B Dave Ulrich - 2018 1st-round pick from the Netherlands. His bat is good enough that he could see his MLB debut this season, but his defense leaves some to be desired and he is stuck at first base. No need to rush the 19-year old with Freddie Freeman manning first base for the foreseeable future, though he could be a good bench piece if the Braves make a playoff run.

                    7. 3B/1B Austin Riley - Was overmatched in his MLB debut last season as a 20-year old, batting .194 in 93 AB. Has a plus arm and an MLB-ready glove, and projects for above average hitting and power. If he proves his bat is ready in spring he could make the team as a pinch hitter / reserve infielder.

                    8. 3B/SS Ryan Mountcastle - Has an advanced glove and plus speed. His bat is not as advanced as Riley's and is a year older at 22. Still projects as a potential all-star and will likely repeat at AAA.

                    9. RHP Touki Toussaint - Has a dominating curveball and a fastball that can touch mid-90's. Lost the last month of the season in 2018 with a torn labrum, so his health is a factor but he still has the ceiling of a mid-rotation starter.

                    10. OF Justin Williams - Lefty-hitting outfielder with good all-around tools. Could see his first MLB action this season if he plays well in AAA.

Ready to get things started. Game 1 is at Port St. Lucie against the Mets.

@MightyMaxxx13- I missed the "Spring Training" part at the top and just quickly went to the starting rotation part...for a second I thought you were going to try to run a 7 man rotation during the season hahahaha.

                      Looks great though!

Cubs lose 8-3 vs the Padres last night. Padres win the series 3-1. Increase computer hitting sliders are kicking my butt.

Today’s game is vs 43-68 Royals. Jake Arrietta throws a one hitter in a Cubs 2-0 win. Royals hits a soft single between Castro and Rendon in the 8th for their only hit. Rizzo hits HR 49.

Cubs improve to 68-45. Still 2 games back to the Cards. Cards are in an interesting 3 game set vs the Marlins who are 70-45. Marlins took game 1 7-3.

With 16 games left to play, we are deadlocked with the Reds atop the NL Central. The Cubs are 5 1/2 back. We are both also 3 1/2 games ahead of the Padres for the top wildcard spot.

                          Our remaining schedule:

                          3 @ Mets
                          3 @ Cubs
                          4 vs Brewers
                          3 vs Pirates
                          3 @ Reds

DETROIT TIGERS ARE WORLD SERIES BOUND!!!!

The Detroit Tigers slugged their way to the World Series, with a 15-10 victory Wednesday night in Houston. The Astros put up a big fight late, but in the end, Detroit's power and clutch hitting were too much.

In the top of the first, the Tigers would take a 1-0 lead. Alex Croix doubled to lead off the game, and later scored on Kyle Dutcher's RBI single to right. The RBI was Dutcher's 12th of the post season.

Houston tied the game on a Jose Abreu RBI single in the bottom of the first, his first RBI of the series. But the Tigers would come right back. Walter Agua led off the second with a mammoth shot to right, for a 2-1 Tiger lead. Estimated distance was 479 feet. The ball nearly made it into the concourse in right field.

Five runs in the third inning seemingly put the game away. An RBI single by Victor Martinez, followed by an RBI double by Walter Agua made it 4-1 Tigers. Jeimer Candelario walked, and Pat Lemmon followed with a three run home run to right, his third of the post season, for a 7-1 lead. But, the Astros kept chipping away. Single runs in the fourth and fifth cut the lead to 7-4.

Both teams scored three times in the sixth. Walter Agua doubled in two, and Jeimer Canelario knocked in one with an RBI ground out, putting the TIgers up 10-4. But Houston countered in the bottom of the sixth. George Springer doubled to deep center to knock in two, and Jose Altuve singled in Springer to cut it to a 10-7 Tiger lead. Detroit got a single run in the eighth on a Nicholas Castellanos sac fly. But Houston got three in the bottom of the eighth. Yuli Gurriel led off with a solo home run. Marwin Gonzalez singled in two to cut it to a one run Tiger lead at 11-10. Shane Greene came on in the bottom of the eighth to get the final out of the inning.

Detroit put the game away in the top of the ninth. With lefty Buddy Boshers on the mound, Hunter Pence pinch hit for Walter Agua, walked, and was replaced by pinch runner Leonys Martin. James McCann pinch hit for Pat Lemmon, and drove a ball deep down the line in left. The ball JUST stayed inside the fair pole for a two run home run, and a 13-10 Tiger lead. D.J. LeMahieu and Miguel Cabrera both reached with one out. With two outs, Nicholas Castellanos doubled them home, giving Detroit a 15-10 lead. Shane Greene retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth, propelling the Tigers back to the World Series for the first time since 2012.

Detroit awaits the winner of the LA Dodger vs Chicago Cubs series. Chicago scored three times in the bottom of the 9th to stun the Dodgers in game five, taking a three games to two lead in that series. Game six is Friday night (Oct 19th) in Los Angeles. Jon Lester against Alex Wood.

                              OVERVIEW
The Joe Maddon era in South Chicago has not started off well. We hired Maddon as our manager in the off season after his contract expired with the Cubs who chose not to renew his contract despite coming off another world series victory.

Aside from his signing, we had to trade away a few big name players to bring us back into the green budget wise (Anthony Rendon and Michael Fulmer ) toward the end of April we also traded away Gerrit Cole who was struggling (0-5) and eating up a lot of our budget.

In return, we got LF Rhys Hoskins, RP Brad Peacock and CF Michael Gigliotti from the Astros.

Hoskins took over in left field after Conforto went down with another long term injury (has been injured last three seasons) this time with a fractured wrist which will force him to miss 1-2 more months.

Our offense has been pretty terrible. We are 26th (.244) in average. 22nd (123) in runs 16th (281) in hits, 11th (59) in doubles ,9th (7) in triples and 10th (37) in homeruns.

Defensively, we are 29th (.983) in fielding %. Our pitching isnt any better as we are also 26th (4.51) in ERA.

We made yet another trade this time in an actual attempt to improve our team. We traded Vladimir Guerrero JR. (22 year old 82 OVR A POT 3B) for a couple of prospects and Matt Davidson (30 year old 76 OVR 3B) who had a terrible April (.179 avg).

Luckily, no one in our division had a very good first month and we currently sit in 2nd just 1.5 games back of the dreaded Indians. Hopefully we will turn things around as the GM expects a playoff appearance this season.

If I'm not manage/sim only, I would try to draw walks with him. He struggles hitting for sure, but with any decent BA and walks, he should at least get .330, .340 OBP I would think? That's enough to get him on base and you can then run wild.

I would have a very hard time dealing him unless I got a strong defender for CF in return or had one brewing in AAA that's possibly ready, but I have a fetish for players like him in CF. They are the perfect CF for me.

Push came to shove, I'd bat him 7th or 8th where his OBP being low won't hurt as much.
