Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Reds split the series with Cubs 1-1.
Game 1
The Cubs took the lead in the 1st and never gave it up. The Reds drew even a few times only for the Cubs to go ahead next inning. Scores were actually tied in the 9th and we headed to extra innings where the Cubs piled on 3 runs in the 10th and Pedro Strop closed it out.
Cubs 6 def Reds 3
Game 2
Reds may have found an ace. Cole Hamels pitched another 8 scoreless gem innings against Kyle Hendricks.
Joey Votto went yard in the first inning and the Reds would keep that 1-nil lead until the 8th inning when they batted around and shelled Cub's reliever Brian Duensing for 6 runs.
Michael Lorenzen pitched the 9th and gave up two runs on four hits, but it mattered little as the Reds defeated the Cubs 7-2.
Now the Reds get a much needed day off before heading to PNC Park to take on the undefeated Pirates.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Mine has lasted well in to September. Cespedes was hitting around .310 at the break and now he's down around .275 and has hit maybe 5 HRs in the second half after hitting over 30 in the first. Nimmo is the only guy who hasn't seen a drastic drop in production, he raised his average a few points. Fortunately I got David Wright back in late August and he's still raking vs leftiesComment

New York Yankees
VS.
Chicago Whitesox
Final Score:
White Sox-3

Hoskins single handedly keeps White Sox alive
Rhys Hoskins continued his historic like performance in this years ALDS as he accounted for all three of the White Sox runs in game three of the series to force a game four and avoid the sweep.
Hoskins and Yoan Moncada have been just about all of the White Sox offense in this series as they have combined to go 15 for 26 with 6 combined home runs in the first three games. Hoskins alone has five home runs (1 in game one, 2 in game two and 2 in game three).
Stephen Gonsalves pitched very well in today's game as well (7.0 IP/7 HITS/1 ER/7 SO). Von Jordan got the save after nearly blowing it in the bottomed of the 9th as he allowed three hits and one run.
For the Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton hit his first home run of the series and Rio Ruiz knocked in their other run in the 9th inning.
Game four will see the White Sox attempt to avoid being eliminated again as Michael Kopech (16-6/3.80 ERA) is set to face Chris Archer (8-11/5.12 ERA).

2022 ALDS GAME 4
New York Yankees
VS.
Chicago Whitesox
Final Score:
White Sox-3
Yankees-1
White Sox 3 run 7th forces win or go home game 5
Michael Kopech had a no hitter going into the fifth inning before he had to leave the game with soreness in his elbow.
It appears that the high inning counts for the White Sox starters is starting to catch up to them. Lucas Giolito had the same issue in the 6th inning of his game one start.
This time however, Martin Perez came in for two innings and continued to shut down the Yankees although he did give up the no hitter, allowing one hit.
Chris Archer also pitched a great game. That is until the 7th inning when the White Sox finally got back to back homers from Michael Conforto and Valdimir Guerro Jr. Dom Nunez would add a third run in the inning on a sacrifice fly that would score Eloy Jiminez from third.
The Yankees would get a run of their own in the bottom of the 7th but the White Sox bullpen would hold on from there to force a all deciding game five back in Chicago.
The White Sox will attempt to win at home to advance to the ALCS. Neither team had won at home in this series but hopefully that can change on Thursday.
Lance Mcculers Jr (10-15/4.86 ERA) is set to face Trevor Richards (10-11/4.12 ERA). Due to Mcculers rough regular season, skipper Joe Madden has already let it be known that he will have a short leash in game five.

2022 ALDS GAME 5
Chicago White Sox
VS.
New York Yankees
Final Score:
White Sox-2
Yankees-1
Lucky number 7, White Sox headed to ALCS
The series have done it, they have won their half of the ALDS by winning three games in a row after going down two games to none.
As with the whole series, the leagues top offense struggled in the final game, only collecting five hits. Luckily, the 7th inning would again prove to be the deciding factor. Vladimir Guerror Jr. And Eloy Jiminez went back to back with solo home runs to give the White Sox a 2-1 lead. This was the third time in the series that the White Sox have hit back to back jacks.
Lance Mcculers Jr. proved his doubters wrong as he pitched 6 strong innings allowing only a lone run when Gleybar Torres took him deep in the top of the 6th.
The White Sox move on to the ALCS where they will take on the Houston Astros for a chance to represent the American League in the world series.

Side note, yall know how the announcers will talk about how bull pen arms hardly throw under 97 MPH? The Yankees bullpen was the best I've gone against. I really struggle against pitchers who throw 97+ not necessarily because of their heaters but with them throwing that heat it makes their off speed stuff just about unhittable for me.
Dellin Betances was probably the hardest releiver to hit. His 98 mph fast ball and cutter (crazy movement) made it almost impossible to read his knuckle curve and slurve. That was an awesome series though. I had a lot of fun.
The Astros are led by Gerrit Cole i doubt anyone remembers but I had him on my staff in 2020 where he went 20-4 for me. A slow start to 2021 and budget issues saw me send him right back to Houston. Now wouldn't it be something if dominates us and makes us regret that decision. Luckily, he is a starting pitcher and we will only have to face him at most two times.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
I won the first three vs Miami and had Jacob deGrom and his 1.68 era going on the final game so I pencilled myself in for aa easy win before the game even started. He then proceeded to get shelled for six runs in three innings and I lose 8-6 on a day when Washington was off and I could have gained half of a game. I hate baseball sometimes. I'm about to start my last road trip of the season that will culminate with four vs Washington that will most likely decide the division. My magic number is 17 with 16 games to goComment

Whenever I start thinking easy win is whenever I get shelled. Unless I'm up by 8+, i always take my opponents seriously, even in those games that are like men against boys. This game loves to punish you for easing up and disrespecting opponents, especially if you're rocking just the right difficulties and sliders for you.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Lineup and Stats Through July 31 Trade Deadline:
Hicks .278/8/36
Judge .293/34/81
Sanchez .340/39/91
Stanton .322/49/106
Gregorius .276/16/62
Torres .291/13/34 (54G 189AB)
Walker .274/12/48
Andujar .232/11/32 (57G 203AB)
Gardner .230/13/41
Much like real life, Gardner has been pretty horrific and was bumped to the 9 hole with Hicks having a solid year. I've experimented with Judge and Torres in the leadoff spot once or twice each. Torres, maybe.. but I don't like Judge taking 1/4 of his at bats with guaranteed no runners on base. Andújar's line doesn't look great, but he was hitting well under .200 for a while but I ran with him and he's hitting over .300 over the last 10. Stanton's and Sanchez' seasons were looking ridiculous.. they still somewhat are, but both have cooled down considerably in the month of July. Gary was hitting over .400 on the year at some point in June, and Stanton was around .350 and both were on pace for over 60 home runs on the year. Stanton still has a chance, but I doubt Gary will get even 50. I would consider it realistic for Stanton to finish in the mid-high 50's and Gary and Judge both in the 40's. It's a lot for sure, but it could technically happen.
On the pitching side, Severino has been consistently average all year, rather than having streaks of dominance and then a cold spell. His ERA sits at 3.95. Tanaka spent a considerable amount of time on the DL, but took a no-hitter into the 9th in his first game back until allowing a one out homer to Rasmus of Baltimore. His ERA is 3.07. Other starter ERA's:
Gray: 3.12
Montgomery: 3.21
Sabathia: 3.69
No one is really dominating, but no one is sucking either. Gray and Montgomery were both on rolls through about May or mid-June, but have regressed since.
Chapman has been solid, with an ERA under 2.00 until recent struggles, and now sits at 2.45. He's converted 29 of 33. Robertson has been inconsistent and streaky, sitting at 3.86 currently. Dellin Betances had been laughably horrific all year, just consistently bad for whatever reason. His ERA was 6.95 when I traded him about a week ago. Kahnle has been great and has evolved into my go to 8th inning man. ERA is 2.37. Green has been inconsistent as well, dominating at times and struggling at others. ERA is 4.25. I was able to mimic real life and actually acquired Zach Britton from Baltimore. His ERA is 3.54 on the year but has only made one or two scoreless appearances for us so far. In addition, I was able to acquire Kirby Yates around the deadline and he was having a great year but has struggled in pinstripes so far. ERA is 2.51 but was much lower when I acquired him. The rest of the bullpen has essentially been a AAA revolving door between Holder, Cole, Cessa, German.
**EDIT: Just realized I made no mention of Greg Bird. He was having a good year through May 18th (.284, 13HR) and went down with a lengthy injury ( I forget what the injury was). He made his return on the first game after the All-Star Break, July 20, and lasted all of about a week until he goes down on July 27 with a broken leg. Man is this game realistic.. lol. He's out 2-3 months which will certainly put him out through the regular season and I would doubt he comes back for the playoffs, so looks like another lost season for the Birdman.Last edited by MoneyMan17; 09-07-2018, 11:20 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
Yeah it's crazy, when I face the Scherzers, Kershaws, Bumgarners, etc I'm always locked in and can usually knock them out by the 6th inning. It's generally the middle tier pitchers that give me fits because I let my guard down and in the blink of an eye it's the end of the 4th inning and they've only thrown 25 pitches because I'm hacking at everythingComment

Milwaukee can't get out of New York fast enough, lol.
For the third straight game, the Brewers surrendered a walk-off HR to the Mets, this one coming from Michael Conforto in the series finale.
Mets complete the four-game sweep and are now tied with Washington atop the NL East standings at 16-6.Currently Playing:

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread
We just took a ride on Cespedes' cycle in a 10-1 laugher in Boston as it looks like he's finally breaking out of his two month slump. I was thinking of giving him the day off too but decided to make him the DH and did it ever pay off as he knocked in five. Bartolo Colon got the rare save in a nine run game as he pitched the final three innings, the first of his career. Maybe it's because I use an NL team so I don't play in Boston often, but there is no cooler atmosphere in the game than playing a night game at Fenway Park. Thanks to an Atlanta victory over Washington my magic number is down to 15 with 15 games to playComment
