Isn't refresh rate same as frames per second?

Re: PS4 Pro 4K Video Thread
Refresh rate represents the maximum FPS that your TV can display. But it's still down to the game's / system's performance whether it actually reaches that.
For the "Sharper" (4K) setting, it won't reach that due to the Pro's capabilities. That's what people are saying.Comment

Re: PS4 Pro 4K Video Thread
Regardless, whatever the frame rate is on my TV, I am content to leave it be. The game is smooth, no issues at all. If I see issues related to frame rate, I would make a change.Comment

Re: PS4 Pro 4K Video Thread
Almost every modern HDTV made is 60hz, the ones that say something like smooth motion 120 or whatnot are fake processing, they are still 60hz tv's. Computer monitors on the other hand have a wide variety of hz, most are 60, but they generally go up to 144hz. The show 18 on PS4 Pro has three options, faster is 1080p 60fps, balanced is 1440p 40ish-60fps and sharper is 2160p (4K) 30fps, if it can maintain 30fps all the time. It has absolutely nothing to do with what tv or monitor you have, on the sharper setting at most you're only going to get 30fps.Comment

Re: PS4 Pro 4K Video Thread
You asked if it had been measured, so I responded. Once again, I'm in no way whatsoever trying to tell you how to play the game, but the math doesn't lie. You say the 4k option is smooth, great, I'm glad that it is. On the other hand the faster setting is guaranteed to be twice as smooth if not smoother.Comment

I'm fine, no problems, game plays great!Comment

Re: PS4 Pro 4K Video Thread
I’m actually quite jealous of people that enjoy the Sharper mode. For me, the most I’ll ever go is balanced and even then, one split second early/late on a swing and I’m right back to Faster. This is with the latest 4k HDR etc... There is just no way I can go back to playing at 30fps, even if it makes the game 4k. To me, smoothness in motion >>> smoothness in stills, not even close

Re: PS4 Pro 4K Video Thread
Humm, interesting. I am going to try the Balance option. I have it setup as Sharper and it seems fine to me and it looks nice. I can't tell if it is running at 30FPS I have no laggy frame rates and I have a cheapo 4K TLC 55P605 Roku TV which upon researching this tv it was top rated as being close to the more expensive tv's as far as gaming only. The more expensive tv of course have much better quality in HD4K movies, HD4K sports etc. I just got it mostly for gaming on the PS4Pro.Comment
