    MLB 18 Manage Only Mode

I havent seen a Manage thread yet, so I thought I'd start one for 18 for us Manage guys.

Only played one game, but a lot more offense then in previous years. There isnt enough pop off the bat in my opinion but I currently have everything on default. First game, Indians @ Seattle, won 6- 4. Even saw a couple errors for both teams. OOTB this years version is on fire. I love it.

The game is much improved from last year. Ball spin dynamics is better, infielders aren't supermen like last year, more offense in the game but not overdone.

If I was going to pick out a few things I'd adjust:

Bunts are too hard and I'm sure will be patched

Too many HBP which could become an injury problem

Bullpen AI has the cpu teams going to the bullpen early - IRL would result in wearing down the bullpen.

The positives far outweigh those minor things. I don't know about the other modes but in manage mode this is the best game they have produced.

I'm experimenting with NOMO's sliders from last year. Too small a sample size to say definitively, but it seems close so far. He does such a great job with these that I'm hoping he'll be back to it again. Manage Mode is really all I play. Loving it so far in this version.

I've played a few more games, and I am not liking pitchers stamina as yet. SP are going to deep. 7 - 8 innings a game, and simmed games, through 3 days, have seen 5 complete games. Not liking that, but it is still early. The only thing I think so far I would change besides something with stamina is, maybe fielding being a 4/4. Other then that, this game thus far (before osfm rosters, patches, etc) feels great ootb.

I've seen a mixture. In one game I saw the starter go deep but twice I saw the cpu pull the starter after 4 innings. I think it depends on whether the team is winning or losing and probably whether you are using the DH. I always turn off the DH when I set up my franchise. When trailing with no DH the cpu tends to pinch hit for the pitcher earlier than last year.

I am not happy that SDS turfed Season mode meaning I could not carry forward the existing season I had going in MLB 17 and I know I said I was not going to be playing MLB 18 MoM games. But I had a change of heart. I think MLB 17 while not perfect still played very well. But to stay in MLB 17 meant I was missing out of many of the features I bought the MLB 18 game for. So I decided to start a MLB 18 MoM Season ... err ... Franchise and I will be playing MoM games for my team (the Rockies) and all other games on the schedule will be CPU vs CPU Fast Play non-QC games. If it takes me 2 real world years to complete this season it will take me 2 years and it very well could take 2 possibly more years because lately I have also gotten into RTTS where I will have a pitcher save file and a shortstop save file.

Basically when I am at home but need to be doing something else around the house I will have a CPU vs CPU game going (on average they take about 1 hour to complete) and then I am just going to need to alternate between my MoM games and my two RTTS character games. LOL ... I certainly think I am looking at a multi real world commitment in years here before my RTTS character will ever make it to the Show. But this thread is about MoM game play and I don't want to miss out on the changes to MLB 18 in my MoM games. So I am back.

So far, it appears the offense has improved. I always thought 2017's CPU vs. CPU offense was too anemic (too many 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 games). I remember even with solid hits sliders set to max and the offense was still struggling. NOMO's settings yielded great results, but I can recall it took him a lot of work to figure out what worked the best.

Based on a small sample, I'm hoping this year's game will be much better.

I'm definitely interested to hear about all of your experiences with MOM this year. I'm all in on it, barely played 2K or Madden last year. I've got several more games under my belt since posting earlier, and as I mentioned NOMO's sliders from last year are doing fine so far. I'm seeing a couple guys who seem to be out-hitting their ratings a little bit, but they could have just started out hot. I'm playing with the Braves (like always) and that's been a little brutal, but I've got my carry-over league when it gets too painful. I'll probably dump it and dive back in when the OSFM rosters drop.

I am going to get to experience playing with the Braves organization in MLB 18. I wanted my RTTS pitcher to play in the NL because I wanted him to hit, plus I prefer the managerial strategy of the NL regarding pinch hits and double switches. So I was prepared to reset my RTTS pitcher if he was drafted by an AL team. But no need to reset. My RTTS pitcher was drafted by the Braves organization on the first attempt. But here is the real funny part. Then it was time for my RTTS shortstop to get drafted and I **** you not, I am not making this up. He too was drafted by the Braves.

So I am going to basically be doing a Shohei Ohtani with my two RTTS players since they are basically clones of each other except one pitches while the other plays the field. The plan is to play the first four games with the shortstop and on the fifth day I will pitch. It should be fun. I am really a Rockies fan so when I play the Braves in my MoM games I hope to kick their you know what. However now that I have a connection to the Braves franchise, I will be cheering them on in my franchise season hoping they can be competitive and keep the Nationals honest.

I have a slider thread and there based off Nomo17k sliders from last year. I think they work great for CPU VS CPU and even HUM vs CPU.

There his sliders with my own personal adjustments so most of the credit goes to him as many of you MOM guys he does a excellent job already.

Give me feedback if you try them in that thread over there and we can make some adjustments if any is needed.

I have been using "Armor & Swords" sliders in my RTTS games and that is the sliders I setup for my MLB 18 MoM Franchise. But I see your sliders are based off of Directional and Classic pitching. I will definitely have to check them out because that is what I am using for my two RTTS players. I have gone clear screen for both and I am loving it. Clear screen for the batter is a challenge since I am not the best hitter, but I still love the clear screen look. I hate a screen full of HUDs.

I don't think we will go too wrong with sliders here. Nomo's sliders are always a safe bet to use. I like "Armor & Swords" sliders and I am sure yours will be good as well. Only thing I am not sure of right now is the manager hook for the starters. I have one CPU vs CPU game played and both starters were pulled in the 7th inning in a 2-2 game with only about 80 pitches thrown each. Much too early to say if they were pulled early because these are opening day games and the pitchers are still in their pre-season form? Or perhaps the CPU manager hook set at 6 should really be a 7. But the real world managers have also not been afraid to go the bullpens these last few years. So this could also be in the game.

My only complaint so far is I would rather have the circle for energy and confidence instead of the bar. I thought it was a little easier to read. It would be nice if they had % in display.

What view do you all use when managing?

I use dugout because I like the immersion of feeling Im right there. Howerever, I feel I am missing a lot of the in play animation in the game. I thought of switching to broadcast or behind the plate, like Im the GM sitting in the first row. However, then I lose the immersion of being the manager. In dugout, it doesnt swith to broacast view when the ball is in play. It just follows the ball from the dugout.
