Ah, ok. Thanks. Makes sense, but (a) kind of a pain in the @ and (b) seems like it wouldn't feel very authentic. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

It's pretty self-explanatory. Whenever you see or think that the CPU needs to do a picture change pause your game go to the controller select menu and switch sides to the CPU then either switch the picture yourself or put them in the bullpen to warm them up basically so you micromanage the CPUs Bullpen if they misuse it

It wasn't self explanatory to me because I couldn't even figure out what he was saying. I couldn't even tell what the operative verb of his so-called sentence was...ok, I'm done being Nazi Grammarian for the day.

              Game 3 vs the Padres.

Anthony Desclafani had a rough go and was lifted after 4 innings. Matt Barnes (LRP) and pitches the 5th. He then comes out and pitches the 6th after a rain delay (he had thrown 18 pitches). During his time on the mound he gave up 2 runs on like 4 hits I believe. In the 7th the Pads get another reliever in (forgot his name..) and then in the 8th they pitched Papelbon.

I think whatever issue there may have been pre-patch, has been cleared up post-patch. Nothing about the Pads use of their bullpen has concerned me. Also keep in mind they, like me, are opening the season by playing 10 days straight, so there is probably going to be times where they leave a pitcher in a batter or an inning longer than normal so that they don't tire out their bullpen.
Country - I appreciate all the feedback. I am going to agree with you here, it seems like the issue is indeed resolved.

I jumped the gun being that I got the game early, and then there was a patch that came out before the "official" Tuesday release. Had this been any other year I would not even have noticed!

Small price to pay to enjoy the game 4-5 days earlier.
I think this is a non-issue as of Patch 1.04

It’s not going to be fixed this has been a issue for a few years now I’ve learned to manage the cpu bp and enjoy games more in realism

You didn't jump the gun. Based on what happened last year in terms of CPU bullpen management, this was one of the first things I paid attention to when playing.

Hopefully the trend will continue. I will continue to monitor and report back my findings, especially if they become worrisome.

I haven't seen the CPU implode at all during my games. In fact I think their bullpen management has been pretty spot on.

And the issue that the OP had seems to have been corrected in the latest patch.

What about manager hook vis-a-vis the starter? It has always been my experience since I started playing The Show that the manager hook after the 6th inning in close games has been unreasonably short. Essentially, anytime the tying run reaches base in such a situation, the manager would go to the pen. It could be up 1-0 game in the 7th inning, with the pitcher cruising at a very low pitch count, and if a batter reaches base, even if it's on an error, the manager would pull the starter. Has anybody encountered similar situations in 18 yet?

I have the Manager Hook = 7 and I have not seen them be too quick on the trigger. Post 1.04 patch, with the Hook @ 7, it has been pretty spot on.

One thing you have to remember is the developers who program when to remove the starting pitcher are the same people who program the decline in attributes due to fatigue. It could be the game calculates pitcher confidence vs fatigue and determines a reliever is a better choice.

Prior to last year's game there was the opposite problem with starting pitchers staying in far longer than IRL. The developers mentioned changing the pitchers so there is a larger penalty when the pitcher reaches a certain fatigue level which was a major improvement.

I much prefer this than the old days when a pitcher's stamina was at zero and he was still pitching like Cy Young.

I suggest just managing the cpu via quick manage.
