How do you influence a fly ball or ground ball on zone hitting?

I know in previous versions of the MLB the Show (the last one I played was MLB the Show 15 on ps3), you would press up on the right analog stick to influence a fly ball; down to influence a ground ball. You would have to do this before the pitcher starts his wind up.
I still do this in MLB the Show 18 by habit, but I don't know if it actually works.Think positive!Comment
