    I do this exact same thing. With a runner on first I usually bring the pci down a bit. Same with a runner on 3rd and the infield in with less than 2 outs,etc. I'm constantly moving the pci before the pitch to influence what I want to do. Like trying to move runner from 2nd to 3rd with nobody out I move it up a little bit and try to at least hit the ball on the ground to the right side, and maybe shoot a line drive to right field.

    But if I know a pitcher is relying on a certain pitch other than a fastball a lot, I also 'guess' or in baseball terms sit on curveball in a location etc. If I guess wrong it'll be a called strike or I'm way late on it. But if I guess right hopefully it'll be in the gap or in the seats.
