I had the same experience with the runner remaining stationary until I cranked up stealing ability and mostly stuck to guys with good stealing ratings.

To have the runner take off manually you hold L2 and as soon as you release it they take off. But this year, in my experience, the runner still delays after you release L2 making that feature useless.

I think this is whats causing me by biggest issue. I dont know if this feature is broken this year, but im getting terrible jumps even though ive released at the beginning of the pitchers motion. I should be seeing more success. This method has worked years for me, but now im lucky if its even just a close play at 2nd as most times im getting thrown out with ease.

Have you tried pre-loading your steal?

What I do is press L2 to que up a steal. Then I watch the pitcher. When I think he's ready to start his motion, I press L1 to take that extra step lead before the runner takes off.

Have been successful using that tactic. Nothing excessive but I get my fair share of stolen bases.

I take a one step lead with L1 and then i hold L2 until the pitcher starts his motion. Once he starts his motion, i release L2. I"ll try just tapping L2 after taking my one step lead, and use L1 to trigger my takeoff.

I never steal on guys who throw 95+. I also try to steal in off-speed counts (0-1, 1-2, etc). Check the pitch confidence too; if he's really confident on off-speed pitches then he'll throw more of those outside of predictable situations.

When you slide, use the head-first slide to the far side of the bag. I have been beat by the ball (split second) and that slide has helped me avoid the tag.

I use Showtime to go into slow motion, wait for pitcher to go into windup, and then take off. I rarely get thrown out with that strategy.

The Hanley card with 91 speed and 91 steal makes terrible jumps. Hard to steal at all with him......I have just as much success with 60 speed players. Which isn't a whole lot unless I wait for 2 balls or strikes. Something is broken for the jumps.

It had nothing to do with steal ability, as far as I could see. Mateo has much better steal ability than your Rosario.

I find that if I hit L1 when the pitcher is set, there's a good chance of the button basically making a pick off attempt with how the CPU pitcher responds sometimes (and I have pickoff attempts at 0, not that it seems to do anything).

Not to mention if the runner will take that extra lead on his own (which happens seemingly randomly). So my L1 on top of "his" will really be asking for a pick off.

What I usually do if I want to steal:

-Hit L2 right away.

-Check to see if the runner takes an L1 lead on his own. If not, do it ASAP

-Watch the pitcher to see if he's holding the ball longer, etc. Step out if I think something's up.

-Watch/listen for the jump ("he's goin', he's goin' ", "steal, steal, steal!" etc) and the relation of that to the delivery. Turn it into a run-and-hit by swinging if the jump is bad, especially for guys in the 60-70's in speed.

-Pray it's not a pitch out.

-Pray that if it's a pitch out, the runner will beat it anyway.

Mets have terrible speed and base-stealing ratings, so I rarely attempt them, relying on the long ball instead.

Wanted to leave this here in regards to stealing - this is from my stream today as I'm talking through a live attempted steal with Heyward (57 Speed, 30 Steal), and explaining my thought process as the inning progresses.

I didn't mention it in the stream, but this is a pre-loaded steal - all I did was take the one step past default lead, and tapped L2 before the the pitcher came set.

2:53:57 is the intended starting time stamp in case you get lost.

After I moved the sliders way, way, way in my favor, and since getting used to it a little bit, I've gotten realistic results in my franchise. It now plays a lot like 2016 and earlier did at default. So, there is a solution, you just have to do some massive adjustments within the system.

And I'm certainly not abusing the CPU. In August of my franchise, my leader has fewer that 20 steals.

I moved the CPU Pick Off attempt slider all the way to the left and they're STILL constantly throwing to first. I'm starting to wonder if that slider even WORKS.
