    Extra base hits.

I have read as much as I can about this, asked a few questions in other posts, and have tried everything I know to do, but it seems every year and this year arguably more than others, I just don't get a realistic number of extra base hits, especially doubles.

I lead the league in home runs but I'm nearing the bottom of the league in doubles. It's either a single or a home run for me, rarely anything in between.

I say this not to complain, but genuinely trying to find an answer. It seems like some people don't have any issue. I try every year to use directional hitting and I'm not going to catch slideritis over this. For those who hit a sufficient amount of doubles using directional hitting, what is your strategy? Does pushing up and in on the stick result in more doubles in the gap?

    Re: Extra base hits.

I do a lot of pull hitting with power hitters, and I use the down influence with a lot of speedsters. I don't know if that's what's getting me the doubles but I'm definitely not seeing the issues that you are, lots of solid smacks into the gaps.

Also, I know you want to avoid slideritis, but are you at least using Armor's 3 run speed 3 reaction for fielding? That will likely make a big difference (if you haven't made the change already).

I have the OF reaction, speed and arm at 3, have for years and that seems to do the trick. I also find that you can be more aggressive than you think on the base paths as guys seem to pick up speed after hitting their first bag, this goes for guys going from 1 to 3rd and 2nd to home as well.

If you have those turned down already then I am not sure.

I rarely use the direction buttons to influence hits, except when I really need a dinger. I get a healthy dose of homers and doubles that way.

Try influencing a hit to the opposite field if the defense plays an extreme shift. I can smack quite a few doubles down the lines this way.

Do you guys find that you get many extra base hits when not moving the analog stick at all? Just using timing?

I would say I get slightly less, but that's just eyeballing it. I have no real stats to back that up and it could totally be just a placebo effect.

Besides, I tend to influence based on the hitter, so some hitters I never use the no influence swing and others I use it all the time. Kind of hard to give an objective data driven answer to the question under those conditions.

Do you press and hold influence prior to the pitch or do you adjust your influence once the ball is in the air.

The only way I really see doubles is when I hit against the shift.

I honestly would say it's been 5-6 games since I've hit a ball solid to the wall.

I use swing influence at least once in almost every at bat.

Maybe I should start using power swing more often. I rarely use it. I use just a normal swing 90% of the time and contact when I'm down two strikes. However, I lead the Majors in home runs, but I'm 24th in the league in doubles.

I've been using HOF default other than fielder speed and reactions at 3. I'm 14th in doubles and first in homers with the Yankees. I only use normal swing, unless there's 2 strikes with a contact hitter in which I'll use a contact swing. I'm actually seeing way more doubles than I ever have and would probably be even higher if I didn't lead the league in triples.

Using Armor & Swords sliders... I am seeing a huge variety in basehits. I think I actually have seen more extra base hits than home runs for once. Usually I’m like you and see more homeruns.

I just keep thinking I'm somehow in a weird funk... but year after year, I'm near the bottom in doubles. It has to be something I'm doing. Or not doing. I used Armor's sliders with very few adjustments.

I stream all my games if anyone thinks they can figure it out for me. I'm just dumbfounded to be honest. I genuinely can't remember the last time I hit a ball hard in the gap to the outfield wall.

I think the most common way to get doubles are on higher fastballs so maybe that's part of it. Last year, the ball would hit off side walls right to the fielder where as this year it bounces off more naturally which has led to more doubles for me. Also, sometimes you have to challenge the fielder and risk getting thrown out.
