I would love to get some of these opposite field hits as consistently as I've heard said occur to happen for those two.

I'm on HoF with 10/10 pitch speed.
Legend pitching and hitting, Mike Lowe sliders with pitch speed at 6 and 9.

Maybe I suck (I absolutely do), but I see inside pitches going opposite field. Also I'm starting to think Legend is the culprit for a lot of what I listed in my previous post. I like legend for how the pitchers attack the zone and actually getting struck out. Everything else I'd say Legend is just forcing/fabricating difficulty.

They've patched it back to 17. Wish I had bought a physical copy so I could reinstall without patches

There is a post like this literally around may or june every year of MLB The Show. You can look it up yourself. I've found one for 15, 16, and 17. There is a similar phenomena with Madden as well. Not sure what is going on exactly.

Re: I loved this game when it first came out, but the patches have ruined it for me

I'll repeat what posted in another patch thread. SDS should replicate what the NHL game does which is to have multiple gameplay patches available for users to choose from. Bug fixes are universal. Gameplay is a choice of which patch to use.

I use manage mode and I hated the Show 17 because the infielders were overpowered. A lot of people who joystick the game loved the Show 17 precisely because the infielders were overpowered. They don't want realism, they want an arcade game. There is no way to make both groups happy.

Don't force every user to play with the same gameplay patch. Allow users to choose. I wouldn't go so far as to say the patches have "ruined" the game for me but I preferred the game before the 2nd or 3rd patch which moved the game in the direction of last year's game. The devs went to great lengths to rework the infield AI and they patched some of the improvements out of the game.

Everyone sees different things based on modes and their own settings. In previous years I saw some of the threads about comeback AI and fielder's doing weird things and I ignored it because I never saw any of it.

Last year was my first year playing Diamond Dynasty and I started seeing a lot of the things that I never saw before.

It is pretty ridiculous to ridicule someone for a complaint they have that you haven't seen. It's like telling someone to get over a chronic illness when you have never had one and have no idea what they are going thru. If you don't see it or have the problem ignore the thread. If you want to help them solve it then ask some questions....maybe find out why they see things you don't.

I love the game, but, it isn't perfect. This thread makes me sad in a way.

The problem is it’s the same guys saying it every year and people get tired of it. Someone just said there’s a thread like this every year. If you read those threads it’s the same guys going on about it.

I absolutely mean no disrespect by this but I just don’t see why certain people get this game every year. It’s the whole Albert Einstein’s quote about the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I know someone could say that they get the game every year and hope it’s different. The problem with that theory is that SDS has openingly denied any such “code” so the thing you would be desiring to get fixed doesn’t exist to the people who could fix it. Ergo nothing to fix.

Here’s the thing for me. I 100% understand why some people think such “code” exists.Probably 3 or 4 years ago I too thought there might be some truth to it. Even now some funky stuff happens. I made a choice swallowed my pride and took peoples advice and tips on how to overcome the CPU runs and it absolutely worked!!! There are still sometimes events that don’t go my way but I’ve had tons go my way too. It’s the randomness of baseball.

I’m telling you for a 100% fact that if I truly believed there was some comeback code in the game for the last 4 years, SDS wouldn’t have gotten my money and I wouldn’t be in here right now.

Everyone absolutely has the right to their own opinion and I respect that. Anyone new reading these issues, do some research because there is things you can do to combat the CPU.

I wonder why anyone, ANYONE would even bother to play this game if they thought this was, in fact, in the game. Why would they waste their time and come here, yet again, and declare it exists (when they lose).

You said you ignored the threads in the past so it's understandable but what you suggested above HAS been done.

Over and over and over again. At this point there is no reason for it as it's just a waste of everyone's time.

If anything, numerous threads like this one over the years basically provides a strong piece of evidence that something like comeback code, CPU momentum, every single patch ruining the game, etc. are results of people's confirmation bias... at least in The Show. It's pretty much the same people who make the same complaints every year, who also tend to suffer from making quick judgement.

I am yet to find a good way to improve a situation like this myself though. Confirmation bias is so prevalent that everyone is affected without realizing it themselves... it's the extent that varies among people.

Theres always going to be a gap in this discussion because people dont play on the same difficulty levels. The shenanigans that plague this game, happen frequently on the harder levels.

This game is unlike other sports games. Other sports games are more user/stick skilled base. You can completely dominate in the show in that aspect and still lose because of the random situations that are out of your control ie squeezed calls, good timing/good contact resulting in weak outs and such, fielding and animation miscues etc.

In other games you hit your target, or hit the wide open guy and you see the positive result. Thats not always the case here and that frustrates some people. I love the randomness of baseball, and the show does a fine job of replicating that, but im also understanding of how frustrating that can be for other people, myself included.

And to exacerbate the gap, sometimes the level they're on, or even the sliders they're using, don't fit the users skill set. It's so hard to get sliders dialed in, this is where a lot of frustration stems from. It's why I love dynamic difficulty so much. I set sliders where I want them, then I let the game levels adjust to me instead of the other way around.

This is very true... the fact that The Show has been a fairly good simulation game of baseball actually works against itself, since the game also replicates the real-life like moments of frustrations (which many people just cannot suck up).

And it's still a very difficult question that a consumer-oriented simulation game must face.

Personally, I thoroughly enjoy realistic frustrations... it's a simulation game after all. I am tired of those discussions and rarely chime in any more after all these years of sameness and repetitions of unfounded accusations. User feedback like this does not really improve the game in any meaningful way.

And sometimes the developers end up putting much effort just to prove to us that the game is not making some wonky things happen by intention of cheating. Like all those swing feedback "improvements" this year that just end up cluttering the screen when you are at bat? I don't find things being better (nor much worse for that matter) with the extra swing feedback visuals, and it just looks like the devs are making an excuse. I think those were introduced precisely because (now mostly online) gamers complained incessantly about their hitting not yielding in results satisfying to their feelings.

I think that is the misguided future effort that the feedback like these in this thread might lead to.

However, after the last few patches, it just seems like Show 17.5 again. The wild pitches are once again out of control. Catchers are MUCH quicker to the ball, but the runners get SUCH good jumps that you can't throw them out regardless. The rainbow throws are back. Rocket bunts are still a force out at second base regularly. Home runs going foul by two inches are back. CPU making web gems whenever they want are back. The outfield grass seems slower again, so those hard hit balls down the line that were PERFECT when the game was first released are now back to being like last year, when they slow down and result in singles. Hitting seems back to last year where the swing feedback means nothing. Home runs don't feel earned anymore, they feel handed to you. Hitting in general seems off again, like the user input isn't being taken into consideration enough and the game is dictating hit result. And the CPU rallies seem COMPLETELY fabricated again. Take this example last game.

I'm locked in a 1-1 game with the Blue Jays. Eighth inning, Judge hits a homer and I go up 2-1. I was 3-0 at the time so I just KNEW something was going to happen. Next half inning, I bring in Robertson as the setup man. First batter can of corn, one out. Next batter is Pillar, clean single. He steals second. Next batter fielders choice, Pillar goes to third, two outs. Donaldson is up. I know the propensity for throwing wild pitches in this situation is ABSURDLY high in this game, so I am intentionally keeping the ball high and on the corners to prevent a wild pitch. Second pitch of the at bat, aiming high and outside, ball somehow bounces in dirt and scoots away from Sanchez. The ball got maybe 2 feet away from Sanchez, certainly not far enough to try to score, but Pillar takes off. Sanchez runs to the ball and I underhand the ball to my pitcher who SHOULD be covering, but for some reason, he decided he didn't want to on this particular pitch and the run scores. Situations like this feel completely scripted, as in there's almost NOTHING you can do to prevent the CPU from scoring and it's why the age old comeback discussion has come up every single year.

Has anyone else noticed this regression since the patches have been released?
Another complaint about comeback code? You do this once a month.
