I am rolling with meter pitching - but I have went all the way up to the highest difficulty level, and I've zeroed out the pitch control slider. The other pitching styles just don't give me much enjoyment. I have also raised the cpu contact slider (now at 7) so it forces me to also pitch around guys and not groove pitches. They will chase pitches outside the zone. I get a nice number of K's. I do not like how many times you see balls in the dirt or passed balls / wild pitches, so I'm leaving the pitching slider that impacts that at 5 (default). I have only owned a PS4 for a couple weeks and this is my first time playing MLBTS. I'm using Armor & Swords slider set as a base, but have also maxed out the difficulty level for fielding. I appreciate the discussion here as it's helpful for me to understand the terminology of the game as a new player. Thanks again!

I tried it once didn't understand what I was supposed to do lol
I named that pitcher "Drunk Pirate Joe" because he pitched like he was so drunk that he went blind and still staggering from the hangover he had in the morning.
Was funny, but I never could figure it out.
On the plus side, I had no problem walking the CPU"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

I cant remember, but analog may have been the game default the first year analog came out. (Maybe not. Not sure) but i was thinking that was why i originally tried it. It feels better now than it did then. I also played one year with pure analog hitting. (Pull back to hitch, and up to swing) I liked it ok that year, but it felt worse the next year. It could have been that it was better, i just didn't give it a chance because i didn't want to have to learn stride timing, and it just felt off. So i went back to button hitting and love it.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.11 Available, Patch Notes Included
Man...gave up 7 walks.
CPU discipline was solid all game.
Classic left my pitches out of the zone (41% in zone) and this game ones in the zone missed out more often and CPU didn't chase much. They did, sometimes for K's, but other times, they took some really close pitches.
I really think the key to walking the CPU is to throw out of the zone more and challenge hitter discipline instead of in the zone and hoping for misses out of it. If you get the misses too, then more times for them to chase or take more maybe more walks."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

When i pitched with classic though, i did have games where i walked several. But it still didn't feel right, because i felt like i was throwing out the zone for the sole purpose of keeping my zone % in the 40's, and also getting walks and K's as a result of that.
MLB pitchers miss out of the zone, but they (most of them) also throw out of the zone on purpose quite a bit, in order to be the most effective. I personally felt like i was doing it more for numbers. I didn't feel like i was doing it to pitch the most effectively, which seemed to be to pitch in or near the zone, and let the hitters get themselves out.
It also felt like that on pitches that missed my spot tended to come back into the zone. Pitch counts stayed lower, and in addition, i didnt have enough respect for most hitters to pitch more out of the zone, so i usually didn't.
That being said, i was playing close to default on CPU hitting, or tried a few of the sets on here. I bumped a few of them up a notch or two here and there but thats it, but never did get it right. Had i spent even more time and messed with more CPU hitting sliders, or tried Legend pitching or something i might could have found the sweet spot, or close. For those who take more time to do this, they probably have much better results than i did with Classic.Comment

One thing I’m really liking about this patch is how you don’t get solid contact off the end of PCI.
It’s led to some interesting and beautiful hit varieties

I'm loving the gameplay since the last patch, most fun I've had with the show in awhile. Hitting feels right, I've had to up the difficulty on pitching to Legend/Meter, analog is too easy, but I've had a mix of games, great job.Comment

The zone % comes from my approach, not a "okay I threw 2 strikes so now I need to throw 3 balls so I can keep my zone % at 40%". It's just how I play the game on the mound. Maybe I have a natural "fear" of hitters in this game - I've certainly been burned by all kinds in the past!
But yeah, that's what MLB guys do. That's what you did when you got walks and K's. They swing at crap out of the zone hopefully, definition of getting himself out. Not so much about being near the zone but the plane and tilt of the pitch looking "strike" but biting late and being "what are you swinging at, meat?"
I'll max effort, aim so that it's very likely out of the zone without a high chance of WP, and try to create that safe effect.
To the game's credit, a lot of times, you can pull it off, especially with a pitcher with good movement and certain deliveries aid in this on certain pitches/locations. Part of the feel.
This all applies regardless of interface, imo. It's just pitching, not "pitching on Classic".
If you don't fear hitters and pound the zone, you'll walk fewer, and that should be expected, imo. Nothing about interface can change that.
Of course, that happens IRL, too. So it's got a basis in realism. The amount of this missing is often what gets me about Classic and why I prefer Pulse. The miss ranges are more realistic, imo. But Pulse, at least this year, makes my pitchers have terrible results.
What I try to do with Classic is just not be so fine, especially if I want a "guaranteed" ball. Instead of aiming the end point at the black, I'll put it maybe a "square" off where the black is. Not so far I'm about to HBP or throw one to the backstop or even a pitch out, but not trying to get that perfect nip the edge. (I use pitch trails, makes me feel like I'm "thinking the physics" of tilt and plane on the mound, so I set the end point instead of the start point like the other option). Then, when it drifts, it might just be an obvious take, occasional HBP/WP (happens, IRL too), or near the black/very enticing. And sometimes, depending pitcher and hitter attributes, don't need it to get THAT close."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Exact. Difficult to explain how but we can feel it now when you hit it at end of the bat. Is it possible the sound of the bat is a bit different ? anyway, that happened to me yesterday night for 2 bloopers hits :-) things of beauty.
Playing HoF Zone ( all batting settings at default)
I thought it sounded different coming off the end of the bat but didn’t post cause I thought it was just me

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.11 Available, Patch Notes Included
I didnt wanna quote a bunch of posts- but Im seeing some pretty damn good games post patch. I dont walk a lot(but I never have), nor does the CPU(but I think thats more to do with my style of play). Perhaps sliders and settings have a lot to do with it, but Im enjoying this version of the game more than I ave any other version(this year or any other year).Let's Go Mets!!!Comment

Exactly what I (try to) do. Played last night - walked 5, still lost 6-3 partly because the pitches in the zone were smacked (especially from the relievers that night, and partly because I K'd 16 times but yeah...). So imagine if I pitched 50-60% in the zone? I'd have gotten completely run out of the stadium!

Now this part is "pitching on Classic". It is annoying and I had my fair share of that last night as well. At least 3-4 times I remember Shelby Miller (my starter that game) and Diekmann didn't get the pitches off the plate like I wanted. Sometimes it hurt them (cause Miller a HR, and Diekmann gave up doubles galore).
Of course, that happens IRL, too. So it's got a basis in realism. The amount of this missing is often what gets me about Classic and why I prefer Pulse. The miss ranges are more realistic, imo. But Pulse, at least this year, makes my pitchers have terrible results.
