Re: I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling patch 1.12
A tired pitcher likely doesn't have the same stuff so the batter has an easier time battling at the plate.
Plus, I mean...if the starter is tired/tiring...why not try to make him throw more pitches? Especially if he's been owning you all game. Having quick PAs isn't going to help you if you just ground out in 3 pitches or something.
Don't you try to drive up pitch counts against a tiring pitcher that's been beating you all game...try to get him out or get him to make a mistake?
I had a game like that not long ago - worked a walk after a 13-pitch PA late in the game. CPU had to remove him next inning and we jump on the reliever for the first outburst and lead of the game in the bottom of the 8th.
It cuts both ways. Tired pitchers are easier to battle against and driving up the count to try to force a move or a mistake is just good strategy against a guy owning you all day.
Remember, 16 pitches is an average length inning. Anything under that is a quick inning."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling patch 1.12
I began this tread because I thought offense in manage mode wasn't good enough.
I would like to issue a mea culpa. The game is just fine in terms of the game on the field in manage mode.
Other modes I can't speak to. The issue of socks and uniform colors I can't speak to. The issue of home run distance I can't speak to.
The game on the field is great. The developers have done a good job. Thank you.≡Comment

Re: I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling patch 1.12
Patch has worked great for me EXCEPT the auto baserunning is once again a problem. The AB had been great in every patch other than one early on but this patch is by far the worst. I hope they correct the AB back to what it was in the previous patch.Comment

Re: I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling patch 1.12
I probably shouldn't have described it as "per at-bat" because the earlier innings 1-4 usually go by smoothly. When my starter gets tired is when they start fouling off crazy amounts of pitches. It's likely a strategy programmed into the AI to force your pitcher out of the game. I was also leading in this particular situation, so that would likely amplify it.
The only time I've seen the AI be able to foul off a lot of pitches is when my pitcher's confidence goes down because of having runners on base, and even then it's usually better hitters that do it. That makes sense, because a pitcher that is less confident isn't going to be throwing the same swing and miss stuff as a pitcher who's more confident.Atlanta Braves

I absolutely hate meter pitching in this game. Seriously. Your downward slider’s a millimeter off a good release? Watch that sucker sail over the middle and get crushed into orbit.
Most of my issues come in RTTS, where I play on Veteran/All-Star/whatever the actual difficulty is. I’ve adjusted the control sliders, and still, my pitches are well off, even with good (90s ish) control on my pitches.

I use meter pitching because I find it to be the most realistic option. It's fun knowing that if you don't time it the right way you'll miss your spot and potentially get hit. That's real life. No pitcher has pinpoint control on every single pitch. I will tell you this, it's better to hit it just a tad early than a touch late if you do miss your timing.Atlanta Braves

Not on Veteran. Fastball down and away suddenly goes belthigh and down the middle with 93 control. If it happened every so often, sure, I’d believe that. But it happens way too often than it should, even with the control slider bumped up. It’s happened so much to the point where it’s frustrating; I won’t touch the game for a long time, now.Comment

Re: I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling patch 1.12
Suit yourself, but its 100% fixable. Veteran should have little to nothing to do with that issue. The position of the Consistency slider can also cause balls to miss your spot and throw down the middle. I track Deep Strikes and the consistency slider alone can sometimes even help that one issue. You may or may not need to move both to keep a balance.
Most of my issues are in RTTS and I just saw a post that says the difficulty is one level higher with pitching. That makes sense, but I’ll definitely keep that in mind.

Re: I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling patch 1.12
So you might ask why I'd play meter if I know I'm not going to get a perfect output even if I have a perfect input. Because if I have a bad input with the meter I'm almost guaranteed a bad result, either a ball that no one will swing at, or a mistake that gets hammered by Legend CPU PCI's. So, I'm still in control of my outcome in the end - if I don't execute my pitches with the meter, I'm not going to have a chance to win. Simple as that.Comment

Re: I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling patch 1.12
And it's the reason I like Legend Meter. It's the same - Even if I hit my spot perfectly on the meter I'm not guaranteed to have the ball go where I want it (especially if I have a low control/BB/9 or low confidence pitcher out there). Plus on Legend the CPU punishes mistakes hard, which forces me to aim further out from the center of the plate (and often off of the plate), which induces more user walks.

My players and team stats play just as true to their ratings using meter and zone, as the other interfaces, and my stats show it season after season. In fact, in many cases, from the season stats i see from classic/directional posted occasionally, my zone/meter stats are much more realistic across the board than most of them.
I am not saying zone/meter is necessarily better than the others for everyone. I am just saying that there seems to be a major misconception that classic/directional is more realistic, or more sim, when it is not.
Only in the sense that there is less user input, you can argue that classic/directional etc is closer to an actual "simulator" but as far as results and stats go, from my experience i would argue that zone (usually) (- and with the right setup for one's skill level) produces more realistic stats, despite the user input.
I can only speak from my experience, and i don't suggest that everyone use zone/meter. I dont claim that its the best. (For some it is, for some it isn't) Results wont be the same for everyone, especially if not experienced in both.
I for one find meter (even analog with the right sliders) and zone, to play amazingly realistic, and statistically and gameplayistocically sim-worthy.Comment
